  1. It'd be nice if the fella did a full band video but with the 4 basses as a blind test. Once you strip away the visual cues most folk are lost.
  2. It's not unfinished , it's a satin finish. I'll take the satin finish on my Harley Benton over the gloss on my Fenders every time . Truth is ; my Paisley Fender is a lovely bass but the HB PB-50's see 95% of the playing. Boy in the video said he played the basses with "out of the box" set ups but tweaked the Squier TR due to excess relief , raising the Squier pickup might have improved the output.
  3. Aye, that'll be 2 the other valid reasons 😃 Personally I don't hold with High Mass bridge = increased sustain . Owned more than a few Peavey T-40s , bridge on those weighs over 1 lb. If any of my T-40/45's sustained longer than any other bass , I certainly didn't notice.
  4. IMO that reason carries more weight than the oft claimed "sustain" 👍
  5. Sounds like they've been assembled back to front , or just not seated properly in the first place. Kmise UK on eBay sold Aklot 22:1 ratio tuners which were drop-ins on HB basses , looks like they've stopped selling those in favour of 26:1. Sadly the 26:1 have a larger mounting plate , think it's the same dimensions as Wilkinson.
  6. Finally got around to fitting the black scratchplate to my pal's "non stealth" PB-20. Strangest thing , he asked me to A/B the stealth vs non stealth. Stealth seemed very tame compared to the original 20. Course it may well just be down to those individual basses rather than anything else.
  7. Not as I recall. Had the dubious honour of being a Harley Benton forum mod and dishing out numbers on the HB Owners TalkBass thread , plenty folk reported 12lb+. Being a Peavey T-40 owner I was quite glad to hear that 😀
  8. @Bassassin I'm lucky , haven't owned a TV in 20 years so I've never watched any of those shows. Gunter will have checked the pickups , though the "Owned/Used" then a list of names from the dark and dim past is complete sales bollocks. Course he's not claiming he played this actual bass with any of them , just laying out a line for some fool hoping to buy into supposed mojo.
  9. @dyerseve You're welcome friend. Owning both Japanese and Korean Tunes, I'm of the opinion that country of origin for these production line basses means very little.
  10. Doubtful ; wonder what the 8x10 photo with his $9.9k 1973 Fender Jazz is worth. It's another "Celebrity Owned and Used by Gunter." .Oddest thing ; in his YT video on buying the 73 for $200 he hasn't a clue if he's played it or not. Enough to make you think he's a huckster 🤣 No, it's overpriced even at that. Couple of weeks back Martyn (bagsieblue) sold his on here for £520. Tail end of last week I was part of a German T-40 discussion , the local lads reckoned 600€ was a fair price for good condition inc the case. Might not be too heavy though 1980 is a bit early for a poplar body hiding under the solid finish. By 83 most were around 10 - 10.5 lbs , solid colours were poplar and the natural ash was actually hackberry. Benefits of hackberry are it looks like ash , is lighter than ash, easier to work than ash , cheaper than ash and was felled locally.
  11. I know who the seller is , which bit of "picked up by a guy who frequents yard sales" caused confusion ?
  12. Definitely Korean. Main clues are. The serial number, as has already been stated Japanese serial numbers don't contain letters but Korean ones all start with "S". The 1996 date , Tune Japan were gone by then. If not for those two , it would be a Japan assembly from Korean parts. Main tell is the 25 fret square heel neck , original Japanese had 24 fret slanted heel. Many also had slanted bridges. With that out the way , £447 is still a very good price for a Tune Maniac 👍
  13. So it's an 1980 T-40- picked by a guy who frequents "yard sales". There's no question Gunter plays bass but did he actually play this one ? I'd say it's unlikely since the bridge is not set for intonation. Is it worth near $1500 ? Not a chance , not in a country where most folks pay no more than $600 for a T-40. Earlier this year I ran a poll in response to one fella claiming $1000 was the bottom line for T-40 shopping , this fella didn't actually own a 40 himself 🤣 Anyway two owned up to spending $1000. 1 fella I knew from years past , collects 0000 sales rep's Peaveys . The other had a personal connection to his $1000 T-40. The rest were in the $300 to $600 bracket.
  14. My handiwork. Pale blue in the centre is a refinished Harley Benton , 2 saddle/through body bridge and Jess Loureiro split single. Far right blue stain is my southern yellow pine slab . Again 2 saddle/through body bridge. Custom wound split single + a Noll preamp .
  15. Where did you buy the "Stinger" stacked single ? When I looked into buying one , Duncan's custom shop had a "no European sales" policy.
  16. Definitely more P than J. Not as much as you'd think . I've a split single wound to 29.9k in one of my builds , by rights it should sound like mud but it doesn't 👍 Split or stacked single will cure any 60 cycle hum .
  17. I'll throw some in gigbags and pop round one night. That way you'll be testing on your own gear 👍
  18. I love my single coil P-basses , so much I ended up with few. Some other variations on the theme. @lowlandtrees I would suggest you try and play one first . If the tone is not for you then it's game over ; I tried plenty of different pickups/caps in the builds , no matter the magnet type/ wire count it doesn't alter the character by much.
  19. After the stripped photos , daveybloo points out it's a koa which has been painted for some reason.
  20. That's the Koa version. The solid colours are maple neck with poplar wings.
  21. G&B built the VFL pickups for Peavey and the Tone Pump preamp for Spector ; also did the EMG Select many moons ago 👍
  22. Fantastic 🙂 Congratulations on your NBD.
  23. A few years before ; these appeared in 91 but it was 97 for the Cirrus. Axcelerators , B-Quads , 3 versions of Forum , Midi/Cyberbass and the RJB were all released in the years between . I've a thing for Peaveys 🤣 GLWTS
  24. Couldn't find a feedback thread for Tom so thought I'd start one. Bought a Warwick bridge from Tom last week. A hassle free purchase if ever there was 🙂 Availability inquiry and payment resolved by 2nd message , address and delivery sorted out by 3rd message. Bridge arrived securely packed with all required screws intact 👍 Tom's a Top Man , one I look forward to doing business with again.
  25. If he doesn't just post your existing plate to Glasgow. I never had access to a MB-4 plate for my last visit or I'd have dropped one off , just 7 Peavey and a PB-20 plates.
