  1. Taking a chance with that since cafes are "takeaway only" just now. Have to say I'm perplexed by this . " Bassist who lost everything, (partially) opens cafe while hospitality industry teeters on the brink of collapse." For a bass player, the lass has terrible timing 🤣
  2. I've bought a few pickups from Dave. he's a top man. Last pickup was an over-wound split single coil. Not a big deal except I wanted it wound to 29.9k ohm. Dave was up to the challenge, run a few questions my way then he was all set. 4 days later I was installing the pickup. That's the cap value used on the Peavey Fury and Patriot (P-bass clones) and folks rave about those. The G&L LB-100 also had a .022uf cap.
  3. It's Monterey Pine. Dyed black and a resin added , then it's dried under pressure to 3% moisture content. Final step is hot compression, reduces it's thickness by 40%.
  4. Saw a post by Steve concerning Peavey Zephyr/Grind pickups. Having some small experience with Peaveys I chipped in with a few options. Couple of days later I spotted his "wanted" ad. 2 pairs of Peavey pickups were posted down to him the next day 🙂 Comms were great, payment was prompt and he had the courtesy to let me know when the goodies arrived. In my book that's a very satisfactory BassChat deal. Smashing bloke, one I hope to do business with again.
  5. Bought a Harley Benton neck from Geoff last week. Hassle-free transaction 👍
  6. No,not a good bloke. He picked up the T-40 for £300.
  7. Think this might be the same lads with the £1300 Peavey T-40 🤣
  8. Had the pleasure of dealing with Paul this week. Have a stack of timber almost dry enough for bass bodies. Those bodies will need bridges, Paul just happened to be selling a Fender one. The matter was done and dusted in a couple of messages 🙂 Bridge arrived in no time and I find he's only gone and slipped a 2nd bridge in the parcel . What a great fella 😎
  9. What do you say to trade for a Hohner Jack bass ?
  10. Aye , during a lockdown 🤯 Nutters, they deserve to make just that £40 👍
  11. @shine182 This might be of interest. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PBASS-PRECISION-BASS-GUITAR-BODY-FINISHED-IN-ANY-FENDER-COLOR-YOU-WANT/224311804781?hash=item343a06836d:g:TGgAAOSwnwpfae7z The folks in Spain buy the body you want from guitarbuild.co.uk, give it a nitro finish of your choice then send it on to you. Prices are fantastic.
  12. I know quite a few lads over in Germany rate guitarbuild highly.
  13. Good folk, bought a few necks from them now. Well impressed with the quality 👍
  14. Got some chrome knobs on the way from Mike. Absolute doddle, deal was done in a couple of messages. Cheers Mike.
  15. @Newfoundfreedom Next folks will be complaining when more European outlets just stop trading with the UK.
  16. So you won't be using Thomann because UPS billed you £50 😧
  17. For some reason I always forget about those Internationals or "Peavey DynaBass . International Series" if addressing it by its Sunday name 😀 Pickups in Zephyrs and International are the same size with the same colour coding and are 4 wire humbuckers in series, dare say they are same part . Empty shells are available for them, I've one in front of me just now👍 Instead of going the EMG road, you could grab a couple of empties and post them to one of the pickup folk for a custom build. It's surprising how affordable that can be 😎
  18. Getting pickups to fit Peavey Grinds or Zephyrs can be a hassle. Both 4 and 5 strings models shared the same pickups and the nearest in size are EMGs. I went with Warman Jazzbars in my Zephyr 5. They had a different style shell so I popped them out and used wooden covers. Course this was before I discovered folk selling empty Peavey shells on eBay. If I was repeating the swap I'd place the new pickups in empty shells 👍 It's as @TheGreek says there's no reason why you can't use 5 string soapbars .
  19. Same as using carbon rods, a safeguard when using less seasoned timber. The blurb all stresses increased stability but they don't saw what it's measured against, fresh cut or kiln dried. If anybody fancies trying one, Madinter sell roasted maple blanks for 56€ ex VAT. https://www.madinter.com/es/maderas/mangos-y-zoques/mango-arce-duro-torrefactado-bajo.html
  20. Aye Stew, they're first class. Here's another example. With impeccable timing I placed an order just before China went into lockdown. Few days later Kmise email me saying things don't look great and there may be a delay, I tell them it's OK as I'm in no hurry. Following week they contact me again, this time saying I should cancel and source the parts elsewhere. Again I tell them it'll be fine 🙂 It took them another 4 or 5 similar emails to break my resolve and follow their advice 😁
  21. I've one of Willie's (Twin-Cam) necks. Yet to use it so can't comment on it. I've also bought a few Kmise jazz necks, really nice necks that cost buttons. The Kmise folks are brilliant, very proactive should there be a problem. Dealt with them plenty of times, honest and trustworthy. If I'm honest Kmise is one of the best eBay sellers. They've refunded me for goods on route, trusting I'd contact them for an invoice once they arrived.
  22. Can't answer for @Basscabman but my necks from Wang Guitar on Ali-Ex (Jinwan on eBay) have been great. Had the blocked/bound 42mm nut version on my ThunderCabronita for 6-7 month ,not one problem 👍
  23. It was no trouble, I've a pair of Zephyr pickups in the desk drawer. All I had to do was measure while the EMG page loaded up 😁 Oh the DCR is 14.6k ohm when in series 👍
