Compared to the Fenders of the day your bass is probably a damn sight better 😁 Took my re-branded Grant with me on the long awaited "KB buys his first Fender" day, spent a good few hours in the West End trying out basses. The Grant was a soothing plaster to my burst "Fenders are the best" bubble 🤣

UPDATES: Custom scratchplate for 35" P Bass
kodiakblair replied to glassmoon's topic in Accessories and Misc
I'll pm you with it later this afternoon. -
Couriers holding business to ransom maybe. During the summer there was a massive number of complaints from Thomann's US customers. Their government restricted European air traffic. DHL had a backlog , they actually suspended service for a short time. Goods were in US customs limbo for months. UPS came to the rescue. That rescue had a price, 70% to 100% increase 😱 Caused no end of problems and the number of damaged delivery refunds went through the roof. Perhaps Thomann refused to pay until UPS settled to compensation claims. Are you browsing on your phone ? Try running a "pop up blocker".

How long is the control plate ? Our man Brian does a silver mirror plate 👍 -
Did your Da buy it in Scotland ? Could well be a Grant, My first decent bass was a re-branded Grant. Sold get bus fare back home from London, loved that bass 😭

UPDATES: Custom scratchplate for 35" P Bass

Brian gets the nod from me every time. Peavey T-40 plates, Hondo II faker, 51 P-bass, Modern Player Telecaster bass. All have been spot on and delivered within a week 👍 -
Import charges should be a whopping £4.77. Commodity code 92 07 90 10 00, rate 3.7%

Don't they have springs or is it foam ? If its foam, remove it and get 4 springs (maybe need cut down to size). Re-use the existing screw holes. Raise or lower to your heart's content.

Takes around 15 minutes with a hacksaw and file 👍

The story Lasse Thernoe tells is they were all a bit whizzed when the time came to name the brand, nobody present admits to the suggestion.
-
Aye, they never updated the website. The RB-414 is probably still listed as "semi hollow". The specs for the MB-4 never changed so no need to change a photo.
-
Aye, that's exactly what's happened. How do I know ? Experienced the same thing, only in my case it was slightly worse. Only came to light after I'd sold the pickup to a fellow BC'er 😱 Flip one of the magnets then revel in the power of the Entwistle 👍

Aye. Friend of mine set it up, same fella who started the TalkBass HB group. Don't think he was nursing a hangover when he started the forum , he was definitely hungover when the TalkBass idea hit 😁
-
Close to 6 years moderating the bass side of the Harley Benton forum and the same dishing out numbers on the TalkBass owners thread, never had anybody make a similar claim. Video Boy is reading far too much into things, must think EBMM have exclusive rights to a pickup position. He's also comparing his bass to a 5 year old photo, in that time Thomann have switched factories at least twice. Each factory changes has seen a difference in parts to reflect what they have in the stores or what deal their suppliers offer.

Think I had one of the first BZ-4000 in the UK. They went on sale 25/08/15 but mine arrived a day or so before that. 12lb if its a day, cracking looking bass. Reasonably chunky neck,active/passive. A lit of bass for little money.
-
Those RB414's were released back in 2015 with not a peep from John Hall.
-
What legal considerations would that be ? Thomann's a multi million concern not some fly by night Ali Express vendor.
-
His prices amaze me. He just added Peavey T-40 scratchplates to the inventory this afternoon, £29.99 for 3 ply and £31.99 for 4 ply. T-40 has 2 pickup cutouts, 26 screw holes, 4 knobs and 2 mini switches to drill. There's also 4 position dots to bore, they're just through the top layer of ply. It's a helluva lot of work for £30 👍

@Useless amateur I'm fast losing track of all the bits Brian has done for me 😀

Send Brian a message through his eBay shop. https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/earlpilanz?_trksid=p2053788.m1543.l2754 If he doesn't already have you just send your existing one to use for a template. There's been plenty of satisfied BC customers in recent months.

Answered Dave's wanted ad for a T-40. Great fella, had the patience of a saint while I replaced some worn out parts on it. The whole process was made easy by Dave's "no pressure" attitude, I really appreciated that 😀 A credit to BC and I'm glad one of my Peaveys is with him, its gone to a good home. Thanks Dave for making this sale a pleasant experience 👍

I'd hazard a guess there's huge number of Pros using lower priced gear. Couple of lads I know in Ghana play cheap Peaveys. One did a TV gig on a £90 Milestone, the other only plays a 5 string Zephyr. The lads in Kenyan Afropunk band Crystal Axis play Squiers. Then there's the 1000's earning their living playing in holiday resort bars/ restaurants and hotels across the world. Rudy Sarzo plays an Indonesian built Peavey Cirrus.

There's an unwarranted bias at work which Western business uses to it's advantage. They set stupid low build prices knowing full well any issues will be blamed on the country of origin, not them gouging profits from both sides (factory and consumer). Is it the factory's fault if a £500 TV fails when it cost £5 to build ?

Aye, folks there do pretty good. It's weird that we question £100 basses made in the Far East but don't blink an eye at £600 ones built in Mexico (minimum wage $6.15 per day) 😮
