  1. Worked moved apace, lack of photos saves my blushes from mishaps going public. Suffice to say mishaps were aplenty. The softness of the timber combined with my heavy handedness was the main issue. The guided bearing scored the grain when cutting the binding rebate while it turned to powder along the end grain. The supplied string anchor was for a 38mm nut, HB neck of course was 42mm. There was a mismatch between the bridge string spacing and the intended Bloodstone pickup, not a huge problem since I had a tighter spaced Wilkinson. The huge problem was I'd already routed out for the Bloodstone 🤬 Damn thing fought me every step of the way, and it was winning 🤕 Trial fit though showed it all lined up true.
  2. Suddenly it was mid Feb and I'd been sitting on my backside for too long. Made a start. That's commitment , it was also the last time I remembered to take a photo.
  3. Months pass and I'm still pretty unsure as to my options. Pondered going headless, Google search had this from the Warmoth gallery. Looked pretty nifty 🙂 Our own @bagsieblue forced things along by selling a stealth Harley Benton neck. Time to source some hardware. Never having built a headless before the potential for error was high, this meant a low budget 😀 Overlord of Music headless system was bought along with sundry black hardware. Apathy then set in 🙁
  4. Wish the tagline applied to me,would have saved me from this latest folly 🤨 All started last year with a trip to Reid Timber in Glasgow. Alistair asked my thoughts on torrefied timbers as he had blanks of Ayous (Obeche) which while he personally wasn't convinced by our Nordic cousins seemed to like. Having no torrefied experience myself but with 1 piece blanks a good price , I bought one 🙂 Got home and did a rough cut slab body. Finding the timber to be both very light and very soft, it stayed as a rough cut for months will I thought of options.
  5. @Belka The seller lists the value on the courier label, if they undervalue and it goes missing they'll lose out so above board is best. Royal Mail or likely Parcel Force take over when it arrives in the UK. They assess the VAT based on item cost + shipping/insurance. There may be import duty added, there definitely will be a handling charge ( normally £8). Keep an eye on the exchange rate Paypal are offering , it can be pretty poor. Don't offer to do a bank transfer, asking Americans for their details has them fleeing in terror 🤣
  6. When I was through 3 weeks back, he was snowed under with orders. Shop likely closed while he clears the backlog.
  7. Went on eBay, fetched the princely sum of £88 😮 Not the thing an owner of 4 Peavey Foundations wants to see 😀
  8. It's just 40 mile from me, quite happy to collect and pack it so a courier can deliver it.
  9. Aye. Older type though, your bass would need 85mm between the mounting studs. 3" 11/32 in old money 👍
  10. Had the pleasure of dealing with Terry this week. Great guy who knows the score so the whole thing ran smoothly. Hopefully there will be future business between us. Cheers Davie
  11. @Chienmortbb The LH JB75 + shipping is under the £135 threshold so VAT is collected by Thomann. I think that cancels the UPS handling charge since all they do is deliver. The import code for electric guitars/basses is 92 07 90 10 00 and the duty rate is 2%. https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/commodities/9207901000
  12. What's the problem ? Your research would have revealed you had £83 VAT to pay, £11 UPS fee and 2% import duty. Nothing to do with Thomann , it's collected in the UK.
  13. Fender Player P-bass butterscotch. Andertons £699. Thomann inc VAT £618 G&L Tribute L-2000 OW Andertons £649 . Thomann inc £600. I could point out more but I'm sure you'll see a pattern here.
  14. It's £2199 at Guitar Guitar which begs the question. Why are UK prices at least 25.5% higher ? Stuff buying "British", I'll keep buying from Europe.
  15. @Machines I'm with you every step of the way regarding fads. I'm doing a build just now and I've vowed never to touch torrefied timber again. It's an Obeche body, normally a soft wood but the roasting process has made it even softer. Roasted maple may be lighter but it's also brittle. I'm also with you on G4M getting stiffed over specs. Roasting adds about 10% to costs, add that to the credit notes for the split headstocks on the last batch it's easy to see the factory chancing using a dye.
  16. @LeftyJ The Groovetech is 1 million times better than the official Peavey TR tool 🤣
  17. @Machines If it's a description issue then why do they go to quite a length regarding the benefits of roasted maple. Quote lifted direct from the G4M spec. "This comfort is further extended with the smooth, quick feel of the roasted maple fingerboard that has a satin finish. The roasted maple construction of the neck offers a lightweight feel as well as producing a brighter, louder and more percussive sound with a quicker attack, and longer decay. The durable heat and moisture resistant timber won't need adjusting each time you push it hard in a session. Feel the inspiration to tweak your sound into something great."
  18. With the recent fanned fret B-stocks, "Not genuine roasted maple" is a pretty serious finishing issue 🤣
  19. Well done that Man 👏
  20. @Jolltax The Cruz multitools @bloke_zero linked to are great, I've found the latest model to be a Godsend. That's the blue one at £14. Metric and Imperial hex keys, 5/16th socket that reaches the deepest sunk Peavey TR nut and a few screwdriver sizes.
  21. @lonestar If you do swap the preamp, I'd be interested in the old one. Handy to have if I need spares for mine.
  22. Tap and Die it, Get the next gauge up hex grub screw. Cut threads in the rounded out nut. Screw in the new grub screw having coated the threads with a strong epoxy.
  23. It's UK shorthand for "over-rated" 🤣
  24. @Beer of the Bass The double bass side didn't take kindly to my " what's the best glue to attach fake tiger fur ?", "Bettie Page or Flaming 8 sticker ?" met a similar response 😕 My guess was they were too busy deciding if $15k could buy a starter bass or were they still just BSO (bass shaped objects) at that price.
  25. Nah, it was just 2 lads upset at paying £19.99 then having to spend 2 minutes turning a magnet and adding a spot of glue. The Artec is not competing with Dimarzio, it's a proper mudbucker. DiMarzio are up against Sentell and their "UnMudbucker" tm 😁
