Sleep Walk by Santo & Johnny. Many a guitar hero fails to do it justice.

Saw on a BC thread regarding Thunderbird pickups that Rod had a pair from EY Guitars. Hoping to avoid delivery time from China I sent Rod a note asking if he'd consider parting with them. The kind gent replied "of course I will, your need is greater than mine." π Deal done and dusted Sunday afternoon. Pickups arrived Tuesday afternoon π Thanks Rod, you're a lifesaver π

Help me find a courier that wil ship my bass!

Not sure what you mean. With Interparcel I've my billing address but I can enter different collection and delivery addresses. -
Of course. One is definitely needed π The Universal Postal Union is part of the UN but for post carriers. All members agree to make international post easy and to have standard flat fees. From July the American post service will set it's own rates.

From next month USPS will no longer be part of the UPU. That's expected to jump prices 40 to 50%.

Help me find a courier that wil ship my bass!

Use a broker. For the bass going to Hungary I booked DPD with Interparcel .Β£29 no insurance Following day it was DPD through Eurosender. Bass was going to Wisbech Β£27.20 including Β£1000 insurance. -
I had a wee customs form problem shipping a bass to Norway, the DPD folks took care of it by photocopying more forms. When it arrived in Norway,it was pulled for CITES regs. Again the DPD folks sorted it. 1 phone call and they just asked for an email declaring no restricted materials . Buyer got his bass the next day. Think I was Β£20 odd to send it, stellar service π

Help me find a courier that wil ship my bass!

Did you mean DHL ? I sent 2 basses in the last 7 days with DPD. 134 cm x 47 cm x 20 cm. -
Done it a few times. Hardest part is getting sellers prepared to ship outside the USA. If you find one willing,be prepared to talk them through booking a courier. Sometimes they'll say the parcel will be too big for posting. I had one say he intended taking the neck off to reduce the package size. told him "Fine ,just wrap it securely in the hard case I've paid for "π€£ Asking for bank details so you can transfer funds scares the pants of them too. I agree with @Beedster. Lousy exchange rates, very little come protection in case of problems and high shipping costs buying from the US isn't worth it. Next month USPS leave the UPU and I know goods shipping from Europe will increase 40-50%, imagine it'll rise for goods from the US.

I just clicked the link on BC and filled in the details. Like an eejit I forgot to enter the BC code for the discount.

It was going to Cambridge. I didn't use Eurosender for the Hungary order, just DPD.
-
Courier prices are all over the place. Shipped a bass to Hungary last Thursday, DPD Β£29 π On the Friday I wanted to ship a bass to Cambridge. Parcelforce Β£35 !! Tried Eurosender. Β£29 including the Β£1000 insurance cover. Both basses delivered safely by DPD.

Wonder what the pickups are, they're different than the soapbars in my Gordy.

With Harley Bentons both have the same materials, it was just a translation glitch. If you view the Thomann site in English, burst PB-50's are basswood/reds are LInden. View the site in German and the bursts are Linden/reds are basswood π American Basswood is soft and light, European Lime/Linden is harder and heavier. Asia plays host to plenty of local Lime trees so I doubt either American or European wood is being used. If I find the janka for "Tilia Chinenis" I'll sick it on here π

It's just a bit of code, easy replicated on any machine. Variable pitch, variable tension nothing magical.

One uses advertising and a canny bit of marketing, the other just goes to work . I've saw "Hand wound Simulation" in sales blurb. Thank you Cary for that inventive term for machine wound π€£

Not that I've noticed, at least as far as 51 style single coils are concerned. I tried 7 different singles and recorded clips, one of them was Β£8 from ebay. Asked folks to guess which clip was the Β£8 Chinese built. Votes were even across all 7. I'll take the Roswell over the Duncan 1/4 lb'er every time.

I tried a few UK pickup folks. To the names already mentioned I'll add Bloodstone Guitarworks. Ordered a couple pickups from them, very impressed. Last one was out of the ordinary, 51 split single overwound to 29.9k. David was brilliant, fired all sorts of options regarding wire gauge/magnet size, finish etc. Twas a tad over my head πTold Dave to do as he saw fit,4 days later my monster single arrived π http://www.bloodstoneguitarworks.com/

Naw. Some guitar teacher in Edinburgh bought it for a student.

I got lucky. Mine was the wide P-bass neck. Couple of folk buying after me got landed with slim jazz type necks, QC problem I heard. Np idea if it was resolved.

I was near 100% certain it was Jin Ho hardware, them being the folks making Wilkinson hardware. Never had any trouble with bridge or tuners.

Think Wilkinson quality and you'll be in the ballpark.
