I got an email from Brian last night. He's trying to update his ebay inventory while working through the orders backlog. Best course of action would be just ask him. I've hand cut a 3 ply Tele PG before ,not an experience I fancy repeating ๐
-
Thanks. It came in handy, when things got tough and I was stressed I just blamed the bass ๐ I'm pretty sure the PG maker I was talking to last Sunday has the template.

The blonde was one discreet did a couple of years back. It's the Paisley Pink Torpedo from year before last. Was never happy with the end product. Stripped it back and refinished it last summer. The old man had lung cancer and I needed something to work on in between toilet trips, bed changes etc. He went downhill that fast I couldn't afford delivery times. Colour was decided by what B&M had in stock ๐

You're welcome ๐ Single coil P-basses and Tele basses are my favourites. I've built a few so have an idea what works and what doesn't. There's another couple of single coils in the early planning stages, if I can sort out the humbucker issue I'll knock up a Tele bass too. Don't give up hope ๐
-
@meterman If you want a Telebass I'm afraid you either buy one or build one. The PB-50 is a great bass, owned about 6 of them. It's not a Telebass. Buying one to mod as Telebass is quite a task, even if you can find the wide humbucker. You need a much bigger pickguard to hide the single coil hole,or you fill it and do a re-finish. Some folks think the Artec Mudbucker might work. String spacings are totally different. Here it is in two positions. The DiMarzio Willpower or The One are no good as they are the opposite of a Mudbucker, they are wound to be clean and bright. Another fella makes a version called the UnMudbucker.

I was helping a fella in Glasgow expand his PG range last week. One of the PG's I took through was from a PB-50. Turned out my timing was good as he'd a PB-50 PG to cut but only had a cardboard template from the client to work from ๐ As a wee thank you, Brian asked if I'd like a vintage white PG. Mine was the original black covered with Fablon ๐ A white PG on a burst bass doesn't make an exciting photo so here's the important bits. Fit round the neck. Fit round the control plate. Needless to say the screw holes matched up perfectly. Plenty of colour options,with/without tugbar, pre-drilled or DIY screw holes. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Harley-Benton-PB-50-Bass-Pickguard-PB-50-scratchplate-many-colours/114233957501?hash=item1a98dfdc7d:m:m68gcGIS2tiGkIYfb-eIZ_g

I've been singing the praises of the PB-50 for years. Bought one from the first run back in 2014,just to see what ยฃ76 got you. Life changing moment ๐ฎHardly touched anything else since ,own 4 of them now ๐

Looking good, can't wait to see the finished product ๐ -
Cheers for the link. Signed the Canada/UN petition. Zero interest in PF so ignored the rest ๐

Aye.

Carolina pine or shortleaf. It's not really fair to describe it as "softwood" it's harder than alder and about 1/3rd heavier. It's a great timber. I made a slab body from longleaf. I'd say the reason folks don't use it is everybody thinks eastern white pine or the Scots pine we have here. Weight is another thing, plenty pine varieties are heavy. This fella is over 12.6lbs.

Take the punt ๐ Old thread about Jayro.

That's kind of fierce but then Bach charge โฌ433 for their pine body Riverboat models. Aye โฌ433 for pine ๐ฎ

Why would you do that ? Unless it's branded as "Rickenbacker" where's the problem. Is it the โฌ500 that bothers you ? Basses from China are typically in the โฌ200 to โฌ300 price range. Call it โฌ250. Seller has VAT, it's now โฌ300. Seller has a store. Rent, rates, insurance, utilities and wages need paid. Money for those bills are added the the โฌ300, could be as much as 20%. Bass is now โฌ360 and he's yet to turn a profit. Another cost folks don't think about are QC fails, returns etc. Seller has to allocate part of his sale price to cover those. This seller may only make 20%.

Couple of Fakers. On the left is Mr Konig's retired Renegade. Simple as get out, just vol/tone and a series/parallel MM. On the right is Sunday's purchase. Bolt on Hondo II ๐

I'd say DIY. He's knocked up a handle . 4mm x 300mm ยฃ4.62 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GRADE-303-STAINLESS-STEEL-HEXAGON-BAR-4-5-10mm-1-4-5-16-7-16-1-2-5-8-3-4-1/254207544857?var=553584668534&hash=item3b2ff34e19:m:m5GFMoWPpyy-wrv6HlArpaw

I'd also gave him a Harley Benton PB-50 plate to scan. No good for your bass but perfect timing for Brian,he had 3 on order for a fella in Italy and only a paper tracing to work from ๐ -

Happy to supply those few pointers to help you on your way ๐ BTW I'm just back from Brian's unit. Fender 51 pickguards are now part of the inventory ๐ He's used my Fender Japan for the template so it's the rounded horns found on the reissue and Sting models. https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/earlpilanz -

It leads to a lot of faffing about Dan,I've tried scaling before . Sometimes they print out shorter instead of just a narrower nut. print at 100%. All that matters is the lines flow together in a pleasing way ๐ -

Right here goes. Telecaster template with 38mm nut. P-bass template 42mm nut. To get the E tuner area just get the template touching top and side. Draw round it. Place your template to the G side of the nut. Mark 1 Set Point 2 . Move the template to give a clean line for Points 1+2. All points joined ๐ -

Areas to concentrate on. Overall length. The wee area heading up the E tuner, tiny wee bit sanding. The rounded tip,get that right ๐ For the bottom curve to work, place the template on the back and mark the bare wood as the headstock leaves the nut. Move the template up to the rounded tip, make a mark as the tip sweeps to the bottom curve . Move the template again, swinging it until you came join both marks. I'll see about getting a photo or 2 posted. -
