I tend to avoid Amazon purchases, if I want something cheap I'll buy from Ali-Ex. 10 - 12 day wait for delivery hasn't killed me yet 🙂

JB had some input but the design was down to Jim DeCola. When Jim later moved on to Fender there was a few folk waiting to greet him, they'd used a Palaedium neck when designing the Geddy Lee bass 🙂 The necks are quite thin front to back. Vowed I'd apply myself and become accustomed to it 😄 Like most of my 'vows', that joined the to-do list and the Palaedium has been stored in the cupboard ever since 😕

Compared to a Northern Ash jazz bass it probably is mega light. That said I doubt the Fazley is 'Basswood', it's just a blanket term for several lookalike timbers. Most East Asian basswood is Lime/Linden since it's plentiful over there, about 20 varieties. Limes are generally heavier and harder than American Basswood.

Just weighed the surf green Fazley guitar I converted to a short scale bass, with a 30.25" all maple neck and chunky bridge it's 9lb. Based on that I'd guess 9.5lb to 10lb.

Certainly does, much better than the black one I threw together last month 🙂 In my defence it's not a serious build, American lad messaged me about sound clips with different pickups in the P-bass spot. He mentioned Sting's new toy, I had a WRHB so pupped it in the pickup test bass. Vast swimming pool cavity is hidden below a plate.

This is 6 week of a 3 month build estimate and I'm sure you'll agree Mark is doing a great job 🙂 I'd say no more updates until it's nearer completion, doubt anyone is interested in seeing 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc coats of oil 😀 The man is well on track with my build so can tackle other jobs, if you'd like to see those other jobs please check out his Facebook page 👍 https://www.facebook.com/BonnyWoodInstruments

Now the neck lived up to the 'Bonny wood' logo, body takes that up a notch or two.

First coat of oil to the neck.

Cheeky wee logo. Etched then filled with shiny stuff 🙂

On to frets next. Fret ends dressed and sealed.

Router and sanding followed. With that done there was a trial fit.

The Utile is a heavy timber, weight reduction was called for.

There's a dual timeline running as work on the body started soon as the templates were done.

We're now 3 weeks after I dropped off the materials and Mark is shaping the neck.
