  1. Very bored so used up some bits laying about the house. Freebie paulownia body, seller claimed to be in London and gave 5 day delivery time. I got a refund after 4 weeks of excuses. Turned up from China the next day. G4M neck bought from here £18 Entwistle PBXN. £10 from here, came in 2 halves with no covers or wire. Varitone pot. From spares drawer,£2.50 to build inc caps. Rest from spares box. Black ink and poor attempt at silver grain fill £10 Murder to get a decent photo. Very pleased with the action. Test fit showed it needed a shim, got it bang on 1st attempt 👍 6lbs and £30 all in 😎
  2. Sad thing about tress infected by the borer beetle is they get left to rot or used for firewood. The beetle goes for the bark so the wood below is fine. You can't transport infected tree until they get stripped and sprayed, folk don't want to pay for that hence the firewood option.
  3. Bloody Hell !! I'd kill for a Staccato bass. Think @cetera has one.
  4. Cheers for that. I remember the paper, some fella has scanned about 170 of them so I'll shift through them while locked down.
  5. Bloody hell, prices have shot up. Have a hunt for empty covers then give Dave at Bloodstone a shout,I spoke to him in the past about Cabronitas but the covers were the problem. He's a good fella and up for a wee challenge. Seymour Duncan don't sell their "Sting" custom direct to Europeans so I had Dave build me one, delivered in 4 days.
  6. Wee word o warning. Jess is pretty bad at answering emails. No a big problem but the Spanish Post Office is. Loads of parcels go missing and the Jess/email thing doesn't help. That said, his pickups are grand 🙂 Had a split single of his few year now and it's magic 👍
  7. Naw. This was afore their time, probably mid 80's .
  8. Aye ,that and Stairway. There was something about open strings too. I can picture the list but not all the offending items 🙂
  9. Some of the folks on the Telecaster forum are upset about the "No Stairway" gag in Wayne's World. I have a vague memory of London Rock Shop having a sign on the door with a list of no-no tunes. Anyone remember what was on the list ? The Birdie Song was definitely one of them.
  10. Deirdre was in Girlschool only they were called Painted Lady at the time 👍 Anybody remember Henry in "Finger Ease " adverts ?
  11. Good shout. Space it out and we'll appreciate it much more 😎
  12. I looked for Cabronita pickups last year. Didn't have a empty shell so that caused problems getting a custom build. Dave at Bloodstone was up for it but couldn't locate a shell. Jess over in Spain ,did sadly his normal MO and blanked emails 🤬 Bloody pest that,he does good pickups 🙁 Got lucky and found a TV Jones Thunderblade on ebay. I'm basically a flats/single coil player so the roundwound/Thunderblade was a stretch out the comfort zone. Had an old Noll P-bass preamp, fitted it last week 😎
  13. Aye,they're just screws. If you're meant to set them instead of pickup height I'm ok, if not then I've just knackered a pickup 😀
  14. @Osiris If you don't have a router it's easier than trying with a chisel. If you sell the bass, fill the holes then cover with copper tape. I won't tell if you won't 🙊
  15. Another method. Dab of white paint on the bottom of the screws, drop in the pickup area.Drill where the spots left by the paint.
  16. Bentley uses a P-bass with Markley Blue Steels .46 to.102. He did use a Duncan 1/4 lb'er but it's Dimarzio now. Pickups are wired direct to output socket .
  17. Most pickup cavities are roughly 18 mm deep, you'll have 7 mm exposed.
  18. That "pickguard planet" sells 4 or 5, difference seems to be number of screws/countersunk or not/trussrod access. When I stuck an MM in an old Peavey Foundation I intended going by the scratchplate, where the pickup landed was where it went. Didn't workout like that due to the existing pickup routs. Had to move the scratchplate, you won't have that problem 🙂
  19. Sounds like you encountered a phase issue.
  20. Trying to imagine a situation where I'd be doing that.
  21. I didn't really think something that simple would work, the signal still gets collected in the same spot.
  22. I'm of the "pickup position is king" mindset myself 🙂 Idle thought. Could we compensate for the position by moving our right hand towards the neck or bridge ?
  23. If I'm honest Quarter pounders would not be my choice, not against Entwistle PBXN. The Peavey Zodiac DE Scorpio came with Duncan 1/4 lbs. I had one and I had another built from DE parts picked up over time,it got Entwistle Neos. Same set up,same strings, same pickup heights etc. The Entwistles left the Duncans at the starting block, might be closer to say Entwistle took Olympic Gold while the Duncans came in fourth at a junior school's sports day 🙂 That was not the only time I've found Quarter Pounders to be so/so. 2 Peavey Dynabass/Unity series, 1 with QP's the other with stock pickups, actually had those out last week looking for ID. The stock are wired same as Dimarzio. Again the QP's do not shine. IMO "Quarter Pounder" is a great name but that's all they have going for them.
  24. These 3 builds by 2SaddleSlab always make me smile, his old man machined the bridges for them years ago.
