Thought I'd get it over with sharpish ๐ Trip from Falkirk to Hull yesterday was a success. Pleasant memories of Westone basses. Plenty of ads in the music papers,Henry Thomas on Rock School, stocked in plenty of shops. In great condition for 37 years old. There was another on ebay which was cheaper but a good pal lives outside of Hull, long overdue visit made it worth the extra. That all changed. Young lad selling it dropped his price when I suggested cash vs Reverb fees ๐ When I got there he had another surprise ๐ฎ Because I'd drove near 5 hours he decided another 10% off was in order ๐

I've been reading Wishnevsky's book "How the Hippies Ruin't Hillbilly Music: A Historical Memoir 1960-2000". Going by the band names it was a crazy scene. Mind you with the heady mixture of dope,LSD and shine I doubt it could have been anything but crazy ๐ Interesting thing is the near complete lack of big brand name instruments. 300 pages in and so far only Gibson,1 mention (described as fosters poor ) ๐ Folks mostly played hand built items bought at the festivals or kits bought from Sears. Personally I think it's great that Steve has kept to the tradition he learned from Uncle Dave Sturgill over 50 years back.

My thoughts exactly. Saw a photo of him. Weird looking lad. Had a hit with Rick Moranis back in the 80's.

The boy's name is Scott Dasson. Gizmo is called the Badbird ๐ You're in good company, the Geddy Lee fella has one on his T-bird ๐

Bloody hell !! Has that got the aftermarket bridge from the God of Thunder fella ? Cracking bass. What a way to start the year ๐
-
Sure thing. It'll still be early doors over there so might be a while before I here back from him.

@Stub Mandrel My pal Rick Wilson restored one of the Tutmarcs. It's in a museum someplace. Might have been around the time he was working for George Gruhn.

This one's a bit more sedate ๐

Exhibits in Tokyo's Museum of Modern Art. Designed by Kio Ohkawa, built by Wishnevsky. A few of them appeared on Japanese TV.

You'd be surprised just how playable his basses are ๐ The necks might look crazy thick but they are very comfortable, at least that's how I find his Lobe models. It's also refreshing to see somebody stick to their guns,if money was his goal he'd be churning out Fender copies like the rest . Part of his apprenticeship was with Ovation so he has the skills.

Set of Picato strings just arrived this morning. Last bass related purchase of 2019 and Dave made it an easy one ๐ Top Man.

What do you consider an "acceptable" weight?
kodiakblair replied to Newfoundfreedom's topic in General Discussion
Unlucky. I'm over 50 and still throw 90 lb soundblock sheets on walls and ceilings like it was 30 odd year ago. Not as strong as in my 30's but more than hold my own with the younger lads. -

No, I'm the same as you. First job on leaving school involved cement bags (112lbs) and plenty of stairs ๐ Basses in the 10lb to 12lb range suit me fine. No surprise there as my tool belt weighs more๐ -
Nightmare ๐

Near enough ๐ Sold those couple of year back and the Super-P earlier this year. Still have a 5 string Vantage.

Wee pang o regret for selling this one ๐ญ

Happening fairly regular of late. The bridge and tuners are listed wrong on the "Enhanced" models and the photos of the progressive models are showing the old style bridge. Be nice if they were chambered, you could chose the shape of the cut out ๐

Not according to the fella I know. Got his last Thursday an he's saying solid body.
-
Definitely solid body. Fella through Stirling way got his last Thursday. Says his weighs 8.10lb and balances quite well both on the knee or on a strap.

I'm afraid it was a mistake saying that ๐คฃ https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_rb_414bk_classic_series.htm?sid=68996b485894d5bcc89c4cce97a8a99d Even strung with flats I don't remember it being particularly dark sounding. Pickup positions and strings trump body wood every time.
