  1. Next day it's the fretboard's turn.
  2. Fast forward over the weekend and I've an update on the neck's progress.
  3. Next day Mark has his templates cut ๐Ÿ‘
  4. I wasted a bit time thinking about hardware, did I go with chrome or gold. Chrome won so 2nd week in May the parts and materials went to Mark. Body blank is Utile with a black walnut drop top. Neck is Panga Panga with a Panga Panga fretboard. All from Reid Timber in Glasgow. Hardware/electrics are Aklot 23:1 tuners, chrome control plate/knobs, Wilkinson by Gotoh compensated 2 saddle bridge. This bass will be the new home for the 29k monster Dave at Bloodstone Guitarworks made for me a few years back.
  5. Anyone who has saw my previous builds will know my fondness for the humble 51 P-bass, well the fondness remains but I'm not doing the build this time ๐Ÿ™‚ Some unexpected housing issues have my home workshop dismantled in preparation for a move. Trouble is I did that in April and April saw a significant birthday which deserved a bass ๐Ÿ˜ Facebook provided the solution in the capable hands of Mark Provan and Bonnywood Guitars ๐Ÿ˜Ž First spotted Mark's work when photos of his 'Super Yob' guitars appeared in a feed, could have knocked me down with a feather when I discovered the man lived 10 - 15 minutes away ๐Ÿ˜ฎ A short message asking if he had time for a P-bass build then things were up and running ๐Ÿ™‚
  6. Pity about the change to the 'Wanted' ads. I've boxes upon boxes of spares so checked in there regularly to see if anyone needed a particular part to complete a build or get a failing bass back on track. Always made me feel like I was playing a small part in the BC community. Sad state of affairs ๐Ÿ™
  7. Answered Dave's wanted ad for a Behringer P1. Deal was done with the first message. Even took the trouble to send me a follow up message after his parcel was delivered, a nice touch and much appreciated. He's a Top Man.
  8. I got these cheap, weighing 158lbs each so 'cheap' meant free ๐Ÿคฃ
  9. Had the BP 1510. It was a heavy swine despite just having 2 x 10" + 1 x15", that 610 will be much heavier. Was glad to get ยฃ60 for the 1510 ๐Ÿ˜€
  10. Congratulations on your NBD Mine's is a tale of woe and regret, for not buying one from Doug years ago.
  11. My mate Iain rocked up one day sporting a Martinez Goochi hammer ๐Ÿ˜ ยฃ417.50 for the basic hammer, another ยฃ100 for the colour coordinated handle + face plate cover ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Funny thing, in all the years I've known 'The Purv' I don't recall seeing him use a hammer, he leaves that stuff to us mere mortals swinging the same Estwing we've had since laddies ๐Ÿคฃ The Martinez only made one appearance, just so folk knew he'd bought it. Tool theft is pretty bad on sites hence the reason nobody is dropping big bucks for their kit.
  12. Much as I love this bass. It lives in it's case as these two are better playing and sounding basses.
  13. Met up with Chris earlier this evening, he now has most of a Peavey Zodiac DE. Great fella to do business with. Cheers Davie
  14. PCB terminal connectors. Come in various sizes. I glue them to the back of the pots, bend the solder lugs towards the pins then solder them together; also ground 1 pin to the body of the pot ๐Ÿ‘
  15. Have the same myself, bought in anticipation for the 8" cab build ๐Ÿ˜€ Cab build hit the skids when I grabbed a 2 x 8" cab from eBay for ยฃ40 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Ply is free to uplift should anyone in Central Scotland need some for their build ๐Ÿ‘
  16. I would say go ahead with the surgery, just expect problems if you decide to sell. Last I looked there was no shortage of unaltered bass guitars for sale so little reason for folks to buy one with hidden wood butchery.
  17. Had that same problem and I only owned 72 basses ๐Ÿ˜€ My advice is get another 3 basses, any will do, just to hit that magic 100. Goal reached, start selling the guitars and replace each one with a bass ๐Ÿ‘
  18. Do you own or have access to a drill ? Get a sanding drum, insert it into the pickup cavity and mark where it clears the body. Take a sharp knife and trim away the sandpaper above that mark. Fit the mounting rings and start sanding away at the cavities. The mounting rings will keep you within the working area while the exposed drum won't damage the chrome when you move along it . Wear a mask
  19. I mind that one in Aberdeen, bought for ยฃ300 then listed next day for ยฃ1300 ๐Ÿคฃ
  20. I agree on both counts ๐Ÿ™‚
  21. Owned one of the early models with the 42mm P-bass neck. Selling mine was a mistake and the regrets soon stacked up. 1) I still miss it. 2) Sunderland Trading had a wee problem with the factory and all the later models got jazz bass necks. Little chance getting another ๐Ÿคฌ 3) Sold it too cheap and the buyer turned out to be a complete tosser, the RPBXN was a great bass; far better than he deserved.
  22. We've both been on the go the same length of time, give or take a few months. Sadly, I've more wrinkles ๐Ÿ˜€
  23. Might not be a great idea to post this but here's my pal Rick with his YOB bass ๐Ÿคฃ
  24. Has to be ๐Ÿ™‚
  25. He has plenty of books out but that is the only one I've read, in two minds about the title of this one ๐Ÿ˜„
