Does anyone have a Steinberger Spirit XT?
kodiakblair replied to Chiliwailer's topic in Bass Guitars
Nice one Mr @Chiliwailer π -
Reminded me of the Katana. Saw one in the scrap bin at Strung Out,should have grabbed it π Kmise neck is settling in nicely, did I mention the fretwork ? 9th fret was lifting on G&D,gentle tap saw it seared properly. Next move is getting flats on it π
-
That was a new one to me. Very cool π Just watched Dave's World of Fun Stuff video on it.

Cheers Jim I always liked it when Fender tried something different from their norm, the Dimension is another I'd like to try π Can't see that happening for a long time βΉοΈ There was a thread a few weeks back regarding "How many basses .....",72 was the year Fender released this design but I'm embarassed to say here 72 has another meaning π€ The 2 saddle bridge is a thing I doubt anybody gets 100% perfect, I aim for bang on E and leave the other 3 slightly flat. Convinced myself that playing with a higher action than usual sharpens the notes when fretted. As long as I'm on the park 1st to 10th I don't bother over much π

Better picture with the fake cover π
-
Put it together last night π Since the fake cover issue hasn't been resolved it's looking very Variax π No idea what the previous owner of the body had for an ashtray but to hide the screwholes this one needs fitted upside down. Until I sort the pickup cover I've these card holders for drawers to try on for sizeπ https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRAWERS-PLAN-CHEST-CUPBOARD-FILING-CABINET-LABEL-CARD-FRAME-HOLDER/221747385766?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=520590460317&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Next things got silly π The neck arrived and it took 20 minutes to reshape for a Tele headstock but I was still messing about trying to cut covers. I also decided to cut the scratchplate myselfπ±With a hacksaw π±π±Bloody stupid idea and one I don't recommend. Β£18 for the 3 ply and maybe 3-4 hours cutting/filing.All the while disaster is watching over your shoulder. Scratch-It charge about Β£30 odd to do the job right. It's really not worth the hassle just to save Β£12,and that's if you don't botch it. Dumb luck saw me get away with it.

Neck coming on the slowboat from China there was time to play about. 2 saddle bridge from ebay US was ordered,Β£14 delivered. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/392099110068?ViewItem=&item=392099110068 Pickup and scratchplate were a problem. Nobody was selling the wide Fender humbucker leaving me little choice bar the Artec mudbucker. @Meddle has posted about their magnets needing turned around but on another thread he'd suggested dummy covers on a 5 string so I pinched the idea. Cheers Alan π The Warman jazzbar I'm so fond of dropped right in πhttp://www.warmanguitars.co.uk/product/warman-jazzbar-bass-humbucker-13-31k-8-56-h-4-wire-overwound/ Scratchplate was still a problem as Scratch-It didn't appear to have the Squier template.A good few hours were spent scaling up an image from pickguard planet. When I enlarge the photo to get 64mm for a neck pocket the template was too short to cover screw holes. On the 6th attempt I printed it out in 4 pieces then taped it together in-situ. Covered the Warman nicely.

Always liked the look of the Telecaster bass. There was a Squier body on ebay start of the month so I thought it was about time I built one. Β£31 winning bid was a good price π Β£20 to wrap in some cardboard and send PF 48 was taking the p!55 but hey ho I had the choice to bid or not. Day after the body arrived a similar Squier Modern Player went on Gumtree for Β£275, it sold very quickly. Now I had an idea how expensive my folly would end upπ None of the spare necks here were wide enough for the pocket. Even tough it has a 38mm nut and was 21 fret the Kmise from Amazon had an attractive price (Β£36) delivered. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01536M33C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Wild Thing, I'm not sure I love you
kodiakblair replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Danos are built like semi hollows but using a form of hardboard (Masonite) for front/back. Not easy to get a seamless finish so they just run tape round the edge instead. Simple, cheap and easy. Dano " by-words" them π No idea why committed T-40 owner like myself has one of these but I doπ -
So, just how many basses do you own ????

Nice one @Clarky72 Tiger eye Cirrus seems familiar π -
The method @Grangur describes is definitely worth trying, dosen't work 100% of the time though. The HB headstock lends itself to the 51 Tele shape.
-
Don't have a picture but it was either a Commodore semi hollow or an Audition semi hollow. Looked like this but was olive coloured. The tuning pegs were busted so pliers were needed. Pickup was nailed to the body with brads. A plywood scratchplate had been made to cover a hole where the pots were mounted. The hole was stuffed with newspaper and the plywood cover nailed in place. Had 3 strings and cost me Β£1 π That POS was better than the Kay EB100 that followed it.

I've not played seriously for years so there's no good reason to own near 70 basses π Then again I've no family or financial ties and since I've been sober can afford it so why not own 70 basses π -

Holy smokes!! 69!! Another Peavey arrived yesterday, talking the count to 55. With the Tunes, Wishbasses and others takes me to 69 also. Dread to hear what Happy Jack will make of this π -
What do you value about your local music shop?
kodiakblair replied to MiltyG565's topic in General Discussion
Our local shop is pathetic. When you ask for bass strings and they suggest you visit Cash Convertors that's the point of no return. -

Never intended to collect them all but once I realised I'd 18 of the 24 different models it seemed daft to stop. Course I stuffed now, sell one and I may as well sell the lot. The drop from complete to nearly complete is a big step π -

Things were cramped in the old house so wall hangers and racks were used, the new place is much bigger π 4 x racks of 7 + 10 tripod stands in the living room, 2 are kept propped against the couch within arm's reach. Spare room hosts another 4 x 7 racks, basses unused for ages like my Curbow,Dano and Bass Collection live in gigbags in the wee cupboard. Only 51 Peaveys in this photo. I blame the double bass π Happened at Xmas, Wunjos kindly swapped the Sub by SBMM for a GK Plex instead. -

Got 54 Peavey basses,at least one of every model but not every variation within each series. That's definitely classed as a collection and it's fairly well known among Peavey people. Because of that I get messages from folks all over looking for info or advice, sometimes I put buyers/sellers in touch. Mostly found playing a Harley Benton PB-50 π -
Excellent choice π I picked up a Squier telecaster bass body last weekend, almost did a wee dance when I saw the huge pickup cavity. Do I fit a mudbucker ? a split P-humbucker ? Nope. Warman jazzbar is the perfect size and arrived todayπ Shame I've a few weeks yet before the rest of the parts arriveβΉοΈ
