Another Caline 5 user here. I've 3 boards set up and a Caline is cable tied to each one.

The Queers played a fantastic gig in Audio,Glasgow. TIny venue and only about 60 folk in attendance. No matter the lads were on form and battered out a high energy set. Caught the 2nd support act, The Attack. Very impressed, maybe 2 dozen in the crowd but they delivered the goods π Both will go down a storm at Rebellion next week π

Thanks Andy. Maple is the way to go, just need a spare 21 fret one π

How far over the edge did you get ? My attempt to get to the back edge met with disaster πVinyl was too tight between upper horn and bout, had the same trouble between the horns and the neck pocket. Icing on the cake came when I trimmed off the excess vinyl, heat from the hair dryer had slackened the grip of the spray lacquer. It peeled off with the vinyl π€¬ππ€¬ That wont happen with a pro poly finish π

What are you listening to right now?

Cooper, lots of Alice Cooper . Sticking to the albums from the heavy alcohol/drug years π± -
@BrunoBass With the 1st templates I did,You didn't even need to line them up π Plan was the run round it with a router and flush trimmer cutter. Once it dawned on me nobody was using a router the next batch I sent out were just cut vinyl π

Naw. Take a grinder to the bridge base plate instead. Sparks, scorch marks, risk of injury etc. Much more fun π

Don't forget stripping, painting, stripping again, painting again changes the body's thickness. When I fitted the bridge to the pink torpedo bass it sat too low for the neck. Had to router the neck pocket deeper. Stripping and sanding could knock 3mm off the body, imagine the effect a 3mm shim would have if dropped in the pocket π±

Not really sure if the Faker 5 is right for me π Long term abuser of flats/tapes have me struggling with the twangy sound. Must be the roundwounds as the low tension is another gripe. Oh and I've got to mention the pickup cover getting in the way too π Thought my next post here would be a call for advice on bridges, a 5 string jobbie wide enough to cover the inserts of the MM type bridge used on many fakers. So how do I kill most of the twang, tighten up the tension, get a shorter pickup cover (don't mind it but it's too tall). I've a set of Sadowsky blue label flats so hopefully they'll kill 2 birds.

Aye. It was the Mike Dirnt shape. Looked to the same to me too π @b7l4s Do a series of straight cuts getting as near to the lines rather than try to cut the curves in one go. You can clean the wee peaks and troughs up with a rasp.

Used Flats (La Bella, Hotwires)

They rarely line up perfectly. It's rare to see a jazz or PJ line up either,no matter the brand. My last one had the bigger bridge and the centre of E string was 8mm from the centre of the E pickup pole. That was way too much, playing with fingers pulled the string out of the magnetic field. Neither the Herrick nor the Bloodstone line up perfectly on their PB-50s,it's just a trade off between bridge, pickup placement and nut width. You could get a plain cover for the pickup, out of sight / out of mind π

Popped a few notes up on Soundcloud. Bit of a change for me this playing roundwounds and my tinnitus ears can't tell much difference between the coils.Common sense tells me there shouldn't be any with them being right next to each other. Tone pot isn't doing much either but with the pickup so near the bridge I'll get more variation changing playing position π

What a difference 2 hour makes. For the T40 neck to work the bridge needs moved, or the springs round the machine screws binned. Can't wind the saddles back far enough to intonate properly π€¬

The other week a fella wanted opinions on the Peavey T45. Being an honest soul I chipped in that the T45,like the Sarzo, was a great looking bass but sorely lacking in the tone department. The single humbucker T45 is 1 vol 2 tone set up and would've been better wired parallel 2 vol 1 tone IMHO. You'd need to rewire the pickup to get parallel and I don't have a spare so other options were needed. Being a fan of Warman pickups, that decision was quickly made 4 wire MM humbucker. Spare Peavey Foundation body would finally see some use π First snag was the 2 pickup Foundation body, I'd need a scratchplate big enough to hide the pickup cavities.Printing off a Stringray plate showed the trouble, tight to neck heel exposed the bridge pickup/moved back to cover the holes and it was shy of the neck heel. OK I can live with shy of the neck heel π Pearloid plate arrived yesterday,as did the Warman. Dropped the pickup into the plate then marked pole positions on masking tape. Popped a neck on the body and run 2 wires from bridge to tuners. I looked into pickup position/frequency response, sweet spots etc but the bottom line was the pickup position would be decided by the plate hiding holes and lining up with strings. Plain sailing followed π Routed out for pickup, wired it up,fitted stings, took a photo. Then decided a maple neck would look better so took it apart again π

My first PB-50 got Status Hotwire tapes. 2nd one got TI's,4 year down the line I still think it was a great decision π Went back to tapes for number 4,keeping options open for number 5 π Number 3 was a present for a pal's 40th
-
All 3 options looks great to me π You could swap them easy enough if using glue dots
-
Used the Warman jazzbar plenty of times, great pickup. Hope to have their MM installed by the weekend.

Fantastic. I've a spare Peavey Foundation body and a harpoon head neck. The Warman MM is part of the plan π Separate Vol for each coil too π± -
You can have the one off my Peavey Zephyr if you want. I wont be using it again. 88mm wide,58mm deep. 6 screw fixing. String spacing 16mm maybe 16.5mm. With flash/without flash π

Jim. What was the decision on the bridge ?
