  1. Before you go and order one I strongly advise you borrow one of mine. The thick necks are an eye opener.
  2. Cracking basses. The Ambrosia Maple (right) weighs 7lb, Bloodwood (left) weighs 12lb. Bloodwood doesn't float in water, that's how dense it is Though Steve-W briefly worked for Ovation Guitars he's always been involved in hillbilly music. That's his market, $200-$300 hand made basses, that they look hand made is intentional. Let's face it a $20K Fodera AJ would look out of place in North Carolina (median family income $48K).
  3. The Andrew Jackson Fodera has no truss rod or graphite bars because Jackson thinks they affect tone. Wishnevsky thinks the same.
  4. That's funny, in the 26 minutes since your post both the seller's ads have been pulled.
  5. What's the matter, no kebab last night
  6. @NancyJohnson I can't see Gibson paying anything near $100 for Grovers. Grover tuners are made in China by Ping. Great tuners but $100 for Chinese, even high quality , parts seems awfully high.
  7. @BrunoBass Congratulations on joining the ranks of PB-50 owners That was pretty niffty delivery timing since it only shipped Wednesday. @machinehead I've owned 5 of these and all have hovered around 9lb using luggage scales
  8. @Dan Dare Are we thinking about the same Gibson ? Word is morale in the Gibson factories was so bad that workers were sending out any old rubbish as an "FU" to the company. "don't have to abide by any workplace or materials regulations," Take it you forgot about the raid and fine over illegal timber. " They should go back to making things that are special/desirable " Aye,they should follow Fender's lead and start selling similar stuff to this
  9. @BrunoBass Before they would just ship the boxes out and deal with any QC issues after delivery. This year they have started doing checks before shipping, imagine that's the cause for the delay.
  10. Oh you're welcome @BrunoBass, glad you found something of interest 4 years down the line the PB-50 is still the bass that works for me. I'm waiting a delivery so I can get started on number 5
  11. When you can buy necks from China for £30 why does £89 seem strange?
  12. Here's the real Steve's Music, look at his banner. https://stevesmusic.com/ The scammers have pinched his web design.
  13. I used a white Fablon type film, bought from LIDL, on both my PB-50 and Dano Wildthing scratchplates. Cost £3.99 and reckon it'll do about 5.
  14. @BrunoBass There's a good chance you'll find the strings and pole pieces don't align perfectly. From the start of 2018 the factory swapped from an 80mm BBOT bridge to a 86mm Hi Mass job. The Hi Mass saddles are a bit wider too. That little change had me puzzled on Friday when PB-50 #5 arrived.
  15. Saw this on another site. https://www.stevesmusic.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index It's a hack of a Canadian shop. Since one was reported recently thought I'd let folks ken.
  16. Top Man is Brian. Bought a pickup from him on Monday night. No problems whatsoever, posted yesterday and arrived today Gem of a guy, buy or sell to him with complete confidence.
  17. Bloody hell @Skybone Did you pinch my record collection ? I'll be watching to see If "Country Girl becomes Drug and Sex Punk" by Serious Drinking follows
  18. @bubinga5 Not only were there great tunes, they covered a wide variety of styles. Would a band like Half Man/Half Biscuit get played on Radio 1 these days ? UK charts full of UK bands was another bonus. Aye a really great time
  19. Great decade. Psychobilly,T-Tone, Punk bands still starting up. Some great UK bands in the pop world. Myself and @luckman67 were talking about this very subject just a couple of weeks back.
  20. Seymour Duncan do replacements. https://www.seymourduncan.com/pickups/bass/rickenbacker?__uuid_ref=5ac25b5629940 So do Roswell, trouble with Roswell is a lack of dealers and buying direct means minimum order of 20 units http://roswellpickups.com/pickup/pro_list.php?ca1=30&ca2=3050
  21. The Meteors on Thursday in Glasgow. Couldn't hear the vocals to good but I knew when to swear. Nice to see folks "wrecking" at the front. Fans from Germany and Scandinavia turned up.
  22. Just had my first "complete stranger has left you millions of $ in his will " email. Only took 20 year :-)

@discreet Send your name,address,D.O.B., NI number and I'll pass it on :-)

  23. I was stupid enough to sell my Retrovibe Evo. That pickup was seriously loud :-)
  24. The Warman pickups are,I think, very good. I'm well impressed with the jazzbar humbucker but fancy trying their MM. http://www.warmanguitars.co.uk/product/mm-4-string-bass-humbucker-132k-4-wire-overwound/
  25. It's true that the grain is a photo, basswood doesn't really lend itself to sunburst finishes. I know a couple of German fellas who stripped their PB-50s. I'll ask them how easy it was. Have to say I wasn't too keen on the results on one of them.
