It was actually Monday but I've been busy The other week @Billy Apple had 2 Wishbasses up for sale and I've hankered after a Wishbass for a while. If you're unaware of Wishbass they're made in the US by Steve Wishnevsky,he's quite a character With strong beliefs on bass building his motto is "paintbrushes for musicians, some think this just means tools to make music ! Personally I think it means " you add the colour". Steve uses locally sourced timber, doesn't believe in truss rods, isn't keen on frets, doesn't do fancy finishes and offers a very limited choice in pickups.Definitely not the man to see for your dream fanned fret ERB. He also charges $100 per string !! That's right a 5 strng will cost $500,check ebay as he often has sales on. So strong beliefs and limited choices. What does that get you ? For a start, and I'm sure Billy will agree, you don't get some refined instrument with a finish shined on the thighs of dusky maidens You get a bass in it's rawest form. Mainly wood, strings and a pickup. No tone control,Steve's also not keen on active preamp. It'll have rough patches, unfilled holes, splits packed with filler,a corian nut & bridge. Sounds terrible right ? Why would anyone buy something cobbled together in somebody's shed, there was a fire couple of year back destroyed the shed so Steve's in a new workshop now. So why buy one ? Cause they're great Just you and a bass. They have really thick necks but strangely it's comfortable. The maple weighs 6.5lb and the bloodwood 8.5lb. I've never owned a single cut before and reckon I'm off to a good start. They have the "mwah" and sustain thing going on. Not sure what Billy strung the bloodwood with but the maple now has La Bella flats. I'm well chuffed
  2. Interesting to here graphite rods getting a mention. Last year a fella over in the US got excited about his incoming Harley Benton jazz bass, when it arrived one of the tuner screws was squint and he stripped the head trying to adjust it. Sadly the lad suffers from Bi-Polar and this happened on a bad day. Holes werte punched in walls and bass taken outside for smashing. That's when he discovered Graphite Rods in the neck !! £100 basses with graphite rods. Who'd have thought eh
  3. If you're just using hotmail.com click "settings" over on top right. Choose "options" then scroll down to "safe senders" and add basschat.co.uk to the list. I just done that now so will keep an eye on it.
  4. Marked "not spam" lwhen I first noticed BC alerts were going to "junk mail" folder. Just discovered things are still going to junk mail.
  5. Took charge of these two last night Wishbass Lobes, previously owned by @Billy Apple One's ambrosia maple and other is bloodwood. Never owned a single cut before so why not start with 2 Very thick necks on them but surprisingly comfortable. Wish basses come in a fairly raw state so some sanding and filling will get done.
  6. The 5 string bit seems to drive the price up,last few I've saw in Germany were 1000 euro. This one is a "custom shop", that means it has the Millennium sweepable mids preamp, same model is $1300 2nd hand on America's Guitar Center website. If it was £700 it would be in my livingroom already
  7. In the same boat as @machinehead and @radiophonic with Wal regret. Sold my JG custom back in 1990 for £250 + a beat up SG. Couple of year back the Wal owners page told me it was one of the first 47 built. In all honesty it's a monetary regret as it was more bass than I needed. One regret that still smarts was selling a lovely violet quilt Peavey Millennium BXP.Replaced it with a highly rated (by Americans) US Millennium. Not a good move. Don't see the point of 35" scale for 4 strings, never use the much hyped "sweepable mids" and it was a dark graphite colour
  8. @gjamer A lightweight bass is a good idea but might not be the only consideration needed. My ex had trouble with the discs in her back, merely standing for any length of time caused trouble. If your back/leg issue affects you in the same way some kind of stool may help, she got one of these perch stools. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Folding-perching-ironing-padded-adjustable/dp/B004U9LWUO
  9. @BaggyMan The one advertised on bassic.de has gone Think I've saw 2 or 3 come up for sale in Europe the last 3 years, prices were around £1100 for 4 strings. Over in the States it's about the same, $1400 but the 5 string (also called a B-Quad ) is closer to $2000.
  10. My BC message alerts have been sent to "junk mail" today. Folks it might be an idea checking your "junk mail" folder and marking any BC messages "not spam".

Unfortunately it's a known Microsoft issue that all "new" sites go through.

Because we're on a new IP address it needs to learn that we're not spam. Guilty until proven innocent basically!

Please whitelist to help teach it otherwise! :)

  11. If folks are interested there's one for sale in Germany. Not mine's though it's going nowhere
  12. There's a J&D uke thread on bassic.de . No idea what browser you're using @dannybuoy but Chrome does an OK job of translating. https://www.bassic.de/threads/le-petit-ami-j-d-bass-ukulele.14866987/
  13. I keep wanting to quote Zodiac Mindwarp lyrics but it'd lower the tone a bit Lou Reed wrote a few that stuck with me. "The bias of the father runs on through the sonAnd leaves him bothered and bewilderedThe drugs in his veins only cause him to spitAt the face staring back in the mirrorHow can he tell a good act from the bad?He can't even remember his nameHow can he do what needs to be doneWhen he's a follower and not a leader? The sickness of the mother runs on through the girlLeaving her small and helplessLiquor files through her brain with the force of a gunLeaving her running in circlesHow can she tell a good act from the badWhen she's flat on her back in her room? How can she do what needs to be doneWhen she's a coward and a bleeder? The man if he marries will batter his childAnd have endless excusesThe woman sadly will do much the sameThinking that it's right and it's properBetter than their mommy or their daddy didBetter than the childhood they sufferedThe truth is they're happier when they're in painIn fact, that's why they got married" All cheery stuff from Endless Cycle
  14. I put a status update regarding this but remembered it might not get seen if folks are viewing via their phones. Billy Apple has a Wishbass I'd like to buy but he wont post. Is there anybody near Padworth, west Berks who could collect and post it to me in Scotland ? I expect bubblewrap and a box would be required too. Cheers KB
  15. Anybody near Padworth prepared to collect and post Billy Apples Wishbass to me up in Scotland. I'd imagine a box and bubblewrap would be required too. Cheers

@discreet Steve W has a refreshing "F*** You" attitude to bass building. Don't know why that appeals to me but it does

I've been tempted many times, but just can't bring myself to press the 'buy' button... Wishbasses are very much what you make them. I just want to make something else, I suppose. -_-

@kodiakblair Looks more like 'F***k this' most of the time lol

  16. Afraid "boomy room" plays no part. Just played through the mixer with headphones on. Any note played on A,D,G and the levels hovered around -10. Any note played on E string the level jumped to over 0 / +3.
  17. Doolittle by The Pixies New York from Lou Reed Too many contenders for 3rd choice
  18. I don't "clunk" but the E string is far too loud compared to A,D & G.Changing pickup height made no difference. It's a Sub Ray 4 so I asked the company what to do. The CEO got in touch and told me to return it I'd prefer not to,not if I can solve it. Any ideas folks and sorry to piggyback on @highwayman 's thread
  19. Search for DeOliveira basses. You'll find them on Facebook too. p.s. Seller's up here in Scotland so if he wont post maybe one of us up here will help.
  20. Dinner time yesterday I'm smoking a fag and deleting emails,it's kinda cold and the day's dragging something terrible Among the junk, one says "You're a Winner". " Aye right" says I an goes to bin it,then I spot it's from Wunjo. Didn't think they were in the habit of sending junk emails so I open it. Bloody hell !! Forgot I'd entered last weeks competition, now I've won the thing Even better was Wunjo don't hang around, 12.45pm was the email telling me my good fortune and asking my address. 3pm today it was delivered What can I say except Thanks Very Much

Mark had a G4M neck for sale last, as it had a harpoon like head (think Peavey) I was interested. Turned out he was expecting to hear from me Poor bugger took a helluva hit from Parcelforce but remained upbeat as usual. Neck arrived today, packing was top notch. Not much more I can say except those folk's comments above aren't lies Mark's a great fella and a true credit to BC.
  22. I had one very similar except it said Shine on the the headstock. Early Harley Bentons were built by Saein (Shine) so it's probably the same bass. Decent bass, 2 truss rods (both dual action),Artec pickups and preamp. Come to think of it, that's a lot more than just a decent bass Somebody "over t'hill" is snagging a real bargain
  23. I've an old Peavey Patriot with a dodgy neck. @alyctes suggested DGCF instead of BEAD for less tension, but no floppiness, and it worked a treat Must admit I do like the way it sounds.
  24. Tom Waits just lead into NOFX. Now it's Catatonia. Don't you love random playlists
