Early Mosrite basses had 20 frets and the baritone had 24. Solution, remove the excess neck. You'll note, removing this much from the heel exposed the TR channel. Had scrap maple from the peghead reshape, handy material for a plug π Next thing was that massive bridge. Spotting a Guyker copy of the Gretsch Space bridge gave me hope π Only issue with that bridge is position, mess that up and you're stuffed π One way round this would be use a floating bridge so I made a cradle from scrap rosewood. Sorry, no photos; I was on a roll this afternoon π Tail piece or string anchor was up next. Grabbed an old base plate and cut it down to size. Part 2 was shaping a block. The 4 screws hold it in position while drilling the mounting screw holes.

Set up was OK, intonation easy to do, balance was fine. Major problem. It didn't look very Mosrite π€£

Had some teething problems with it. Heel was wider than the pocket, not a huge problem. Finding a bridge as tall as the TOM and with narrow spacing , that was a bigger problem. Bought this big chunky Sung Il, it was tall enough and I could shave the sides of the saddles for a tighter spacing. Wound up with this.

Continuing my trend for slightly off-kilter basses π No idea why Mosrites appeal to me but that appeal does not run to Β£1100+ for an original, Β£600 for an Eastwood copy nor Β£400 for the Aria π Was very disappointed with Thomann last year when they launched the MR-60 but ignored us bass players π To spite them I started a build though never got passed the rough cut π Rough cut taunted me for months then I thought about the Retrovibe short scales David Konig was doing, guitar bodies/bass necks π Trial run using a cheap Fazley with a baritone paddle neck went OK so Thomann got cash from me after all π MR-60 guitar. Baritone neck from eBay.

Not a betting man but reading negative reviews sometimes makes me wish I was π A recent belter was for a 3mm thick granite effect hearth panel, 1 star genius was complaining it wasn't very high π€£

I'd go with them over the other type, mainly due to the female sockets dangling loose; one snag and you'll be unplugged. If you're worried they might break, buy spares. Only 97p each from Kenable π https://www.kenable.co.uk/en/audio-/audio-connectors/audio-adapters/3272-635mm-mono-jack-plug-to-twin-635mm-mono-jack-socket-splitter-adapter-003272-5055383432721.html

Are Overlord of Music headless bass bridges that bad?
kodiakblair replied to rwillett's topic in Accessories and Misc
Most of the complaints I read were folk opting to blame Overlord instead of their ham-fisted attempts at installation. Have had no problems with mine, installation was a POP compared to the ABM mono saddles π -
The Warman split coil Ps have ceramic magnets. Now I'm by no means a magnet snob, Josi's Jazzbar and Drivetrain both use ceramic mags and I'm happy with those in a couple of basses; it's just I find ceramic a bit too bright for my taste in a P-bass. Alnico Toneriders fit my idea of a P-bass better π
-
Big fan of Warman pickups but here I'll say Tonerider π
-
Spectacular looking bass. There was a huge amount of work went into the design and manufacture yet they still remembered the little touches like magnetic battery box lids π Gut feeling is that'll be a wonderful player, you'll have one hell of a merry Christmas when it comes. Congratulations.

I pm'd Stew last week with a couple of 51 templates, completely forgot about the Dirnt one. If I get a chance over the weekend I'll compare them, see what the differences are.
-
It does that. Winning the battle against temptation just now but 2024 may have other ideas π

German lad posted this photo of his PB-50 over on bassic.de earlier. While I'm not one for mirror scratchplates or ashtrays, exceptions can be made π

Custom Pickguard Required - UK Based
kodiakblair replied to Bassman1974's topic in Repairs and Technical
Aye, Brian's the man for the job. Huge choice of colour options, fast turnaround and very reasonable prices. -
For me, it's almost the complete reverse. Own a 90's 51 Paisley reissue; an absolutely gorgeous bass, spends it's life stored in the cupboard over the stairs. By contrast my PB-50 has never saw that cupboard, it's kept in a state of constant readiness; to be played without a moment's notice. Might seem crazy preferring a Harley Benton over a Fender but have valid reasons, the PB-50 both plays and sounds better. Not only did FGN opt for a very chunky neck profile they chose to cover it with gloss; the matt finish Benton neck is slimmer and much more comfortable. In matters of tone, the PB-50 is ahead of the reissue; well that what my ears tell me π

I have one like that, came from the initial 2013 production run. Others were bought for pickup swaps/2 saddle bridges etc but that first one was spot on out of the box, no point in change for change's sake so apart from a set of TIs it remains stock π
-
Sent to your inbox π I've been saying that for years π

Wasn't too bad. Bottom case in the middle of 3 piles, stacked 9 high. Of course those piles were hidden behind 20 basses in gigbags π Anyone who says you can never have too many basses has never shared a house with 70+ of the damn things π€£ Sorry to report my efforts were in vain, the pots had no resistance markings on them and the solder monkey at Peavey chose to cover the Alpha product code for his ground points π€¬ All I could get was the factory cap was 0.1 and the pots came from the R 13 series. Looking through my records I see Peavey used 250k pots for both Vol and Tone on everything without a preamp, that 0.1 cap value was also used the the active B-90 and Foundation S models.
-
Peavey did a few. Along with the RSB there was the B-Ninety, came as a standard passive PJ or active pickups with normal vol/tone pots; Foundation-S active followed the same pattern. Those 2 were fairly low key efforts. If I can unearth my RSB I'll check what pot/cap values were stock from the factory.

Proof my timing is cr@p There's a fella over on TalkBS named Scott Dasson (godofthunder). Scott's nuts about old Gibsons but not too keen on the 3 point bridge so he came up with an alternative; calls it the Badbird. It's a 2 part design so no good if you don't fancy screwing a tailpiece to your bass. Here's Scott and some happy random punter with his 'improved' T-birdπ

Here's my YOB bass, 68 Wilson Sapphire. Sadly I've the Dorian Gray tale in reverse, I get more decrepit every day while the Wilson seems remarkably free from the ravages of time βΉοΈ
-
As has been pointed out already you'll face no problems, most 'active' basses pair normal pickups with a 9v or 18v EQ section. Easily affordable stacked or split 5 string jazz pickups though are pretty thin on the ground π You could look at fitting dummy coils but that'll involve surgery, hidden below the scratchplate being the handiest location.
-
I wouldn't worry too much, depending on who you use it might not be that expensive to fix. I was looking for a hum cancelling single coil ( twice the work + custom bobbin) with a ridiculously high wire count ( 3 times the standard length required), extra long slugs were needed to accommodate all the wire. This considerable move from standard off the shelf spec cost me just Β£10 more π There's not a great deal can fail in pickups. Hook up wires can detach (spot of solder/ job done), slugs can lose power (recharge by passing between neodymiums), magnets can detach (glue them back on or replace). Most of the UK folks charge about Β£30 to repair single coils, Β£40 - Β£45 for humbuckers. It's roughly the same for rewind work π
-
Maybe go with the Entwistle humbuckers Rapier are using in their Watson/WEM/Wilson Saffires.
