Recently joined the double P pickup people with the Peavey TL-6. Still no idea what I'm doing owning a 6 string but hey-ho nothing new there

I've been avoiding Glasgow ever since CC Music got this in. 2 Entwistle Neo P bass pickups and a P bass wide neck I just know my pocket would be £206 lighter

I think the laddie did great. His mate with the CNC didn't do the scratchplate so he used a scroll saw (£100), the lad said he could have used a coping saw but that takes ages. The Dremel did most of the work and they're about £60. His finished product looked and sounded good so it'll be interesting to see it when active. Will he go for Ming's/Belcat, Artec or shove the boat out on a $40 Tone Monster

Congratulations. That's an stunner

Hiya G Ain't you lucky having a decent shop in town, that's if you live in Ayr Again if you live in Ayr there's a project starting for live music in the town centre, good time to be playing bass.

Please tell me why I should avoid getting a Rickenbacker!
kodiakblair replied to Al Krow's topic in Bass Guitars
Mr Krow I'd still suggest you try them as it may be the very thing for you. You could always stick a Rickenb*stard TR cover on it -

JH is the whole reason I'd avoid a Rick. I don't want him getting any of my cash and I don't want to advertise his products by playing them. Over the years I heard complaints about poor finishes blamed on the owners, using non Rick issue string as a reason to void your warranty. Ditto not using a Rick approved tech for adjusting the TR. Said warranty started the second it rolled off the line. Owners who suggested improvements were subject to personal attacks of the Rick forum too. I have no problem with him going after blatant fakes but strong arm tactics were used against companies he "alleged" were infringing his IP. Some of these firms would have won quite easily if they'd had the lawyers fees. Could be the best bass in the world but it's a matter of principle with me. Mr Krow. If you do get one I hope you enjoy playing it as your reasons will be every bit as valid as mine. -
Bought tickets for Glasgow show last Friday so hearing this news today is an extra bonus :-)

I wonder how long prices will go up. There's only a small number of folks interested in Peaveys. Posted a poll for Peavey owner age groups and the vast majority were 35+,many of them were buying Peaveys to replace ones they'd sold 20 year back. There were no owners under 18 so once the over 35's are sated where will the continuing interest come from ?

Dave Konig sent me a Retrovibe beanie hat. Was crushed I asked if that was me an endorsing artist and he replied " No !! You're a baldie "

And I got the TI's from Dave's recent clear out Hassle-free purchase from start to finish. Look forward to the next time.

Decent price. Bursts always get a good price, the case fake fur being intact helps too.

I put a Warman Jazz blade humbucker in the bridge position on my Zephyr 5 and it was a belter of a pickup. Their jazz might not be your taste though. http://www.warmanguitars.co.uk/product/j-bass-4-string-bass-guitar-pickup/ Entwistle pickups are another top notch cheap replacement. I've linked to the JBX instead of the JBXN. I've 2 Zodiac DE Scorpios but 1 has an Entwistle Neo PJ set in place of the Duncan Basslines, the Neos have much louder output than the Duncans so not really the vintage tone you seek. http://www.entwistlepickups.com/pickup.php?puid=JBX

Cheers for confirming that Chris.

Saw it. Hard to say what the "Plus" stands for. Axcelerator 5 like mine has similar spec but 35" scale and Wilkinson 3D bridge. Guess the "Plus" must stand for the slightly high mass bridge. Not too common here, bar myself I only know one other Axcelerator owner. Is it worth £375 ? That's hard to say as I'm sure you've noticed by now there's not many folk clamoring to buy Peaveys. They don't appear often so if you're collecting it's worth buying,if not then remind yourself it's over half the price of a Cirrus. You far from Newton Abbot ? The Zodiac DE on eBay is a good bass and the £180 is a good price. Only concern is I don't see the "Basslines" logo on the pickups, might have worn off but I'd be asking the seller to confirm.
£120 for the Peavey Zeyphr in "new" condition
Congratulations. Good price that

I had one of these too Great bass, does the P-bass thing well. Mine got strung BEAD and currently provides the bottom end to the tunes a young shredder records.

Lovely through neck bass,I reckon made in Indonesia but much like the Vietnamese Grind BXP. No idea about the passive Cirrus though I've saw it on an ebay seller's spiel. Cirrus have a wide cut to the lower horn,Zephyrs don't. Cirrus have VFLs,Zephyrs don't. Cirrus have ABM bridges,Zephyrs don't.Cirrus have graphite, Zephyrs don't.Cirrus are 35" scale,Zephyrs are 34" scale. You see a pattern forming That said what is the Zephyr like ? Same flat top humbucker pickups as the Grinds, 2 volume 2 Tone, High mass bridge. Neck is slightly thicker front to back than on the Grind,I'd also say the fretboard radius was different. If I can lay my hands on my gauges I'll tell you what the radius is. My Zephyr 5 had knackered pots so as I was changing them I added a preamp. I swapped the pickups too,not that they were bad just I was souping it up so might as well stick in new pickups.. I've heard from some folks that they expected more from the pickups but that's down to personal taste/string & set up.A recent owner of a Vietnamese Grind told me they prefer the Zephyr tone but feel of the Grind. I'll admit to being a fan of the passive Grind so think highly of the Zephyr but the Zephyr is far closer to the Grind than the Cirrus. Couple of year back they were selling for £100 but a really nice 5'er sold few months back for £200.I had a few bids on that 5'er myself Upshot. Well built, great playing/looking bass with the jury out on tone. When I go looking for the gauges I'll try and dig my BXP Cirrus out, could be that's the Cirrus they mean and not the USA Cirrus

More sets of strings from Paul. Top man and the usual hassle free transaction. Highly recommended.

Restored/Rebuilt Peavey T40 to add to my collection
kodiakblair replied to kingforaday's topic in Build Diaries
Nice to see the new restored T40. Congratulations on a job well done. OK it cost you a fair bit but you spread the costs over time so would hardly feel it I've finished a couple of 40's myself these last few months, much to the horror of purists One had been waiting 3 years on getting wired up correctly. When I realised another 3 year was likely I spent 20mins cutting in a battery box then threw in a preamp Think that was in April. 2nd one was 2 weeks back. T40 with an extra hole in the headstock was bought before it got stripped for parts. Choice was fit a new neck or finish the original owner's 5 string idea Went down the 5 string route
