As it happens I've the Dr J too,sadly don't think it runs on phantom power. The Hartke Bass Attack does,should get one for £40 second hand.

Nice link TimR only the "loophole" is so good it gets mentioned twice. anzoid I remember the Tune Maniacs first, the extended fingerboard fretless I had GAS for was £899. That was around 84/85.Well beyond my pocket so nearest I got was the Washburn ABT B-20, £299 in 88. I knew it wasn't the same but the colour was right Late 80's was first I heard of the SGC Nanyo, the Bass Centre started selling them. It seemed there was plenty competition for Tune. Washburn,Bass Collection,Kawai all had fretless models similar to the standard fretless Maniac P/J. Shameless excuse to show off the fretless Tune :-) [attachment=248593:Maniac (2).jpg]

I first heard about these start of May then they were pre-order but promptly got dropped from Thomann's product list. Thinking it was just a supply problem I emailed Thomann and asked them for news when they sorted out whatever problem they had. Start of last month I got word so ordered one. 2 days later they were sold out Few days later my £85 DI pedal arrived. Nice sturdy little box about the same size as my Eden WTDI. Reading L-R you got Blend,Bass,2 knobs for sweepable Mids,Treble. 2nd row is Volume,2 knobs for Compressor and a Gain. XLR,Headphones and 1/4" Amp out, 3.5mm Line-In,Input and Thru. It runs on 9v battery,DC power or phantom power. Ground/Lift and a 0dB/-10dB input switch. Great wee thing for practise with the line-in volume set at source. Been playing around with it for last couple of weeks and must say I'm pleased with it. Just a good wee DI that does its job.Don't really know what else I can say,the differences are noticable soon as you start turning knobs. £85 may seem a lot for something with the Harley Benton logo but I reckon with another name and middle man costs it would hit £160 easy. https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_custom_line_bass_di_expander.htm

Looks like it's D.O.A then the Real Mckenzies followed by Subhumans. The Dickies are a possible too. All August/September. Alice Cooper is a goer for November.

I think the laddie did great. His mate with the CNC didn't do the scratchplate so he used a scroll saw (£100), the lad said he could have used a coping saw but that takes ages. The Dremel did most of the work and they're about £60. His finished product looked and sounded good so it'll be interesting to see it when active. Will he go for Ming's/Belcat, Artec or shove the boat out on a $40 Tone Monster
