Yeah you will read it has a Modulus neck or described as "poor man's Modulus",mainly because the B-Quad had a Modulus and the G has carbon neck. Thing is by 1997 Modulus had been trading for 19 year and was a well known brand. With any outsourced parts Peavey would use that in the ads and specs. They did it with the Modulus neck B-Quad and when they used Seymour Duncan pickups.Schaller, Wilkinson.ABM & 2-Tek bridges all get name checked in the manuals too. Some folks say it was a Moses but they used a different construction method. Peavey said they used an aerospace firm for the necks, they did employ an ex employee of Modulus though When the G-Bass was released the Ad-line said " Under 8lb.Under $800". Modulus necks at the time cost over $600. Funny how folk never mention the Cirrus preamp lurking below the cavity cover

Please somebody tell me that this £172 from G4M Vintage Metal Axxe Wraith had a £700 USA only version. http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Vintage-Metal-Axxe-Wraith-Bass/5GB https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/vintage-wilkinson-rare-bass-guitar/1214156656 I drank in a pub round the corner from the seller and fear his madness may be catching.
-
The trouble Peavey faced was they priced too low from the start. T 40s sold for $229 when Fenders were $499. Furys and Foundations were the same. That got the brand locked into the bottom end of the market and when the spec and prices started rising folks baulked at the increase. "how can a Peavey cost $500 ? " G bass was $799 There's a line in the Peavey Guitar book where Hartley says folks want made in America guitars and he says " Sure. I got one here." the reply is " But the import's cheaper !" That's the way of the world. One thing Peavey did when they moved to the Far East was place their own people there too,Mike Powers(with Peavey from early 80's) was in charge for years before his death in 2013. Mike was involved with most of the basses from Foundation to Cirrus, including G bass and Grinds. BTW the neck on the G bass is not a Modulus. For Peavey with a Modulus neck you want a B-Quad. Good man Bass Apprentice. Was just going to post this myself.

First tried them a few year back, wanted a black coated string like Black Beauties but the shop didn't stock them. Owner suggested Nexus instead "That's them on my Wal over there, away an plug it in. See how they feel." A very cool way to try out Nexus and a very cool shop, Ayr Guitars in funnily enough Ayr I've used them on plenty of basses since, there was a dodgy batch a few years ago when the packaging company changed the paper envelopes but that's long sorted. One thing I've noticed is the bright zingy tone can be a bit much with high output pickups like Enwistle Neos, you can tame it using active EQ but on my passive zodiac DE it was a no-no.

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
kodiakblair replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
Pre-ordered the BZ-4000 couple of years back. Very nice basses, rock solid build and great feel to it. Only trouble was I'd way too many active 4 string neck throughs so sold it to a pal. It's been his main bass for the last year and half. The solid build means some will find it heavy, mine was about 11lb. edit I posted in the Fan Fret " Leap of Faith" thread that I reckon the high cost of the deco is down to the manufacture costs. Jazz and P bass are very common so cheap to build, single cuts not so much. Then add in the fan fret niche market and prices rise again. No single cuts on Ali E for less than £270,no Fan Frets for less than £429 so I doubt Thomann are paying much less than £280 themselves. -
They're pretty nice basses. Like all Peaveys no matter the price range the neck is first class and again like all Peaveys they don't sell for much. I was £150 for my last DE. First one I followed Chrismuzz's advice and put Entwistle Neos in,turned out the neos were way to high output for the Roto Nexus it was strung with so it now sports La B flats. The stock one with the SD Basslines has much lower output so the Nexus aren't too harsh, they're a very bright zingy string. Shame you're other end of the country so there's one of nearly every Peavey model as I type

I've long thought the deco price reflects the unit cost price to Thomann. A wee look at Ali Express for Fan fret basses showed none cheaper than £429,standard single cut basses start at £270. Getting the factory to change machines for a short run of fan fret necks will a bit to the cost.Rondo in the States sell similar guitars and basses to Thomann,Brice ,Aguilar and Douglas brands. They are asking $400 for the 6 string fan fret and $515 discount sale price for their passive 5 string version. I notice it says "small number available".Could be the whole first batch, unsellable due to the aforementioned lack of through body holes. Still at £300 who's going to take a chance ?
-
I dish out members number on the TB Harley Benton owners club and entice folk to swear more as a mod on the Harley Benton form Only heard from one fella so far who's bought one of these fan fret models. He says the tone is brilliant but he had a wee bit bother with the neck. The 3 mounting screws on the neck were too tight so he had to slacken them when setting the relief, caused a twist around the 13th fret. Had a wee bit fret sprout too. Another thing is they are advertised as having through body stringing but none of the first batch have actually been drilled for it. With Euro laws saying everything must work out of the box as advertised the no "string through body" option could well be the reason for "deco" status. Many of us bought 4 string decos acoustic basses labelled " 5 string fretless ".

Cirrus are top basses. There's discontinued USA 35" scales, Korean 35" scales and 34" Indonesian/Chinese. A re-release from Indonesia is just out, exact copies of the USA models but with some plate in the headstock for sustain ? Super duper Brian Bromberg B-Quads with 100% carbon necks, stereo output and added piezos. Tim Landers sig TL 5 & 6 strings models. Active Axcelerator 4,5 & 6 strings are nice basses. Sarzo sig is a great bass to play. Jeff Berlin Palaedium model is good. Active Forum going for the MM tone. Decent P & Jazz type basses named Furys and Foundations. There's an active Foundation model named the Dyna Bass. P/J types there's B-90s,Foundation-S ,Unity series and Zodiacs. The Ellefson fella from Megadeath did a sig Zodiac called the DE Scorpio. Millennium series get a good write up too. USA and Far East models.Loved my Far East Millenniums so was interested to see how they compared against the much lauded USA version,if you can live without 35" scale and variable mids get the Far east BXP AC version and save yourself a fortune :-) Grinds again come in USA and Eastern versions. Disappointed in the USA bolt on active Grind, will get cremated with my neck thru Vietnamese passive Grind. Lovely bass. There's also European market versions called Zephyrs. Along with the Patriot almost all of these are discontinued :-( Recently got 2 of the Chinese PXD basses, Very metal shapes but damn fine basses, same electrics as the Cirrus and a joy to play. You know about the T-40 and I've no had my tea so that'll do for now

I've the choice between Fender or Hofner rounds but it'll be Saturday before I can try them @Meddle Peavey LP is doing great
-
I had a Wesley 5 string. [attachment=236643:IMAG0232.jpg] Sounded and played great. Was kinda heavy being about 15lb but I didn't expect to play it all night. It stops being a talking point for the audience if they see it all night. Short bursts is good for them and your shoulder
-
A set of Hofner short scale strings just arrived from Peter. Easiest fella to deal with so I'm sure there will be more business in the future.
-
Lovely set of TI's just arrived from Roman. Whole transaction was a breeze, Look forward to dealing with him again.

Never been up for effects but I got bored over the holidays A look at Spartan Music's clone pedal page ended up with this lot. Strictly for home use and pedal arrangement needs re-doing. [attachment=236380:Pedal Board.JPG] Bottom l-r Kobbo Clean Boost, couple of Joyo drive,Joyo chorus/drive and compressor. Top row r-l Rowin noise gate, Mooer phase & envelople filter,Donner flanger,Mooer octaver and a bloody noisy Rowin EQ. Ends up through Doc J DI/EQ Drive thingy.

Albums you think are crap but are critically acclaimed...
kodiakblair replied to julesb's topic in General Discussion
I'd really love to chip in but I've never read any of the music press in probably 30 year so no idea who's critically acclaimed but crap. Plenty I think are crap but that's not the point -
