1. Have the same bass and my wiring was shot too. It's Vol,Blend,Treble,Bass. Did a thread about using 4 string pickups in a five string couple of month back and it was concerning this bass.Ended up turning it active and using a jazz single at the neck with a Warman jazzblade humbucker for the bridge. Very happy with the results.
2.
Was Harley Benton a person, or people, or just a made-up name?
Lasse Thernøe,the fella in charge of the HB guitars and basses hinted it was thought of at a drunken party.
3. Gave up music shops, exercise in futility. Places never have what I need. Highly recommended repair shop Strung Out. Me "morning. I need about 6" of cable for ground wire" Them "Try Maplin" Me "What about flatwounds ?" Them "Just what's on the shelf" Guitarguitar Me "Any flatwounds ?" Them "Errgh" Me "Don't bother I'll check the shelf" Course none both times. Local shop RA Music Me "Any scratchplate screws ?" Them "Try Guitarguitar in Glasgow " 50 mile round trip into Glasgow city centre for screws I can get of eBay for £1.49 ! No chance. Did have a success with Ayr Guitars,in Ayr Me "Any black beauties ? Owner " Naw. I've got Roto Nexus though." Me " What they like ?" Owner "Got a set on my Wal. That's it over there,I'll plug it in so you can try them" Yes I bought them.
4. That'll be definitely be next. Makes sense as if they moved once it'll happen again. Thanks for your input folks.
5. Fantastic. I'll pass those on to him.
6. @MoonBassAlpha That's exactly what happened. They'd come away from the hot glue so I cut nylon jams and fixed them in place with Mitre Mate.
7. Can anyone recommend some ? Gave a bass to a young fella in Ghana last month and he's asked me about doing Jazz fused Gospel. I haven't the foggiest so I'm hoping for some names he can check out on the likes of YT etc. Cheers KB
8. Bought a bass for £1, plugged into the cassette deck on the music centre and had the same book as TrevorR.
9. Good Call @morgano Armed with the knowledge that costing me £10 it was no biggie if I messed up I Googled "faulty power supply capacitors" They don't appear blown or burst, certainly no bulge, they did however move when prodded with the pliers handles. Gave a push till the hum stopped then fixed them in place. Result
10. Thanks @morgano Just been doing a Google search and that gets mentioned quite often. Hope it's not difficult to test for and fix.
11. Picked up this Laney monitor for the princely sum of £10 a few weeks back and hoping for some tips on reducing the hum. Starts as soon as you power up and really only changes when the bass is turned up. It's constant whether there's anything plugged in or not. XLR makes no difference either. Doesn't appear to get louder when you turn the volume up full. I know very little about amps so any pointers will be welcome. Cheers KB
12. Fretless Tune Bass Maniac. Got one on Tuesday after 32 years of searching
13. Burns-bass Your advice made perfect sense to me and I'll be keeping it in mind A Google search turned up a video on how to use the Tourte style mute similar to my £3 one but they were only muting 2 strings, A + D. Is this normal or do I need 2 of them ? Really appreciate your kind offer on the mute. Thanks !! You're a true Gent
14.
looks like a marvellous instrument, I suppose the 3rd octave is actually even more useful as a "playing surface" / ramp. Sorry to hear about your friend
Thanks roman. You're correct about the fingerboard being more of a ramp too Apart from difficulty in reaching the 36th the string tension up there is crazy high. After I saw the Maniac other firms came out with very similar basses like the Bass Collection and Washburn ABT series but none of their piezo fretless models used the extended board.Nor did other fretless Maniacs so I'm guessing it was done to be different. Glad they did it cause it really adds to the look
15. You bet it was First saw this in Guitarist mag back in 84 but costing a year's wage and only the Bass Centre,400 mile away, having them it was never going to happen. 3 octave fingerboard, extended neck, piezo only. I'd never saw they're like and was smitten For years I'd kept an eye out for one and when the internet came along signed up to any Tune groups on the off chance I'd find one.Trouble was next to nobody had one A couple of folk in Europe, one in Japan and a fella in Australia but his developed a dodgy neck. Danny at Bass Japan Direct told me they were scarce even over there,he also told me the last one he'd saw sold for £850 A damn sight more than I'd expected to pay Well some things are just meant to be.When a friend got told he'd cancer I decided to start ticking off the GAS list and the morning after the double bass was struck off I heard about this, up for grabs in Japan. It was an expensive weekend 12 days it was in customs but yesterday morning the wait was over. It's apt that a few hours later I was at my friend's funeral The bass itself looks fantastic,is in great nick and plays wonderful. Granted I'm crap at fretless, haven't had much time with it and definitely in the honeymoon period but bloody hell I'm over the moon. The Mwah on it is amazing, last night another pal asked me what effects I was using.Took great pleasure in telling him none. Here is the object of my desire
16. Been lusting for a fretless Tune Bass Maniac since I saw one in Guitarist mag way back in 84. A rare beast, only ever heard from 3 folk who had one, Danny over at Bass Japan said he'd seen one go for £850. Course my limit was £500. A good friend being told he had terminal cancer caused a rethink on making the most of life. Today's his funeral and I'm just back from the Parcelforce depot. RIP Chick .
17. Cheers Bigwan There's a huge thread on bassic.ch about the GK but my German is lousy and Google translate doesn't help much. I'll put it on my list for end of the year.
18. Cheers Burns-bass. The one set of neighbours have crazed dogs that bark if they hear a fag paper rustle and the other two have young kids, plus they're Muslim so I doubt wine will help there The bass mute turned out to be a 2 inch plastic disc and I've no idea how it works. Next move will be a practise mute from Thomann. No free time from work until December so no rush.
19. Has anybody built the Growling Krizzly from musikding ? http://www.musikding...xe-kit?lang=eng I've got a feeling it would be beyond me but that's never stopped me,course I could see sense and get somebody to build it
20. Had to Google Vulfpeck. Jealous as hell now
21. Great song but I always think of Money Don't Matter 2 Night when I hear it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pel9PNvxTGs
22. The Final item on my GAS list going back 30 year. Appearing 3 -4 weeks before funds would be available
23. The kick in the spuds was I'd phoned Parcel Force about charges but got told there wasn't any due. My fault for believing them. Again !!
