I wonder if they will carry on after this new record because of this?

Hi Guys, I've always wanted a Surf Green P Bass and I've got a black one I would like refinished. Not the slightest chance I'm doing it myself as I'm not patient enough to learn how to. Can anyone recommend me someone or a company who do them? Thanks

Could this be the start of a new trend?

I deffinately think 3D Printing is the future, it might be nothing yet but I think it will revolutionise manufacturing. What even cooler is that you can buy these printer for home use! https://www.google.co.uk/#q=3d+printer&tbm=shop -
Yamaha Attitude Bass £180 on Gumtree
Weststarx replied to Weststarx's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I'd like to know how old it is. I can see the s/n on the back of the headstock but can't read it. I suspect the owner doesn't know Billy Sheehan from Billy Bragg. But it looks like an Attitude of some sort, I have a defretted 5 not unlike it. I don't know Yamaha history but I expect that the Attitude Standard is just a leetle bit cheaper and lower spec than the Billy Sheehan Limited Edition The quote seems to be from the Yamaha website: http://usa.yamaha.co...models/attstd5/ 2005 TalkBass thread: http://www.talkbass....er-rigs.183906/
Thanks for that, I wasnt aware they did a more affordable version so I presumed it was either a fake or something weird ahah -
Is this legit? I thought these were worth 2 grand plus! http://www.gumtree.c...maha/1081999645 And arent the pickups wrong for Billy Sheehan?

I might be wrong but I think I know what Blue is saying... That when someone finds out your in a band and they start talking to you about it when they either dont care or have no actual interest in what you do or in music. The amount of times I've had someone ask me about my band etc and I've started to explain what it is I'm into and do, you can see the other person just half listening and wishing they never asked and they quickly end the conversation with 'Oh well I'll have to come see you sometime' which they subsequently never do. They're probably just trying to be polite and create a converstation with you but it does get on my nerves because when the converstaion only gets that far, I feel they are somehow judging or laughing at me, because if they were actually interested in talking to me about it and understood what I do, they would atleast talked about it for longer than 2 minutes and would have maybe come to one show.

Maybe I will give it a go a bit longer... I must admit it does feel like I have learnt something even something as small as learning the notes past the 5th fret.

I have two MIM Fender Precisions that I gig with which I would say are mid-range price wise but I use them because I love them. I'd be more than happy gigging with anything that I was happy with regardless of how much it cost or where it was manufactured. A bass is a bass and if you're happy with it and it works for you then thats whats most important. Guitar wise I have a £100 Chinese Schecter and a £1000 American Gibson Les Paul... Too play I pick up the £100 Schecter first!

Hi All, I recently decided that I should learn some theory and start learning what I'm 'supposed to know'. I started learning the major scale and didnt really see the point in what I was doing.... I play in a covers band so when will I actually ever need or use a scale? Especially as a bass player where I'm not soloing or doing anything other than root notes with 90% of the songs we play. Or am I missing the point?

What a shame, It sounds like the time you have spent with the band you've enjoyed and now its getting close to it becoming a sour ending. I would probably do the gig on Friday and then call it a day completely before it escalates more.

I dont know whether its the picture or whether it is the guitar but the body looks too squashed to be a jazz to me.

Hi Yan, This forums great and really helpful/friendly. No matter how stupid you think the question is, just ask away!!

Why kids are no longer playing music. Maybe.

I see quite a lot of young people my age all solo acoustic players trying to be Ed Sheeran/Ben Howard in Cambridge. But I do think like the OP it has a lot to do with the Pop music of today being written on a computer. It depends whats in fashion I guess, hopefully more bands come into light in the future but at the moment record companys wont invest in bands and will make more money selling Justin Bieber music to 13 year old girls. -
Lovely stuff, I've always thought the G&L stuff is really nice to look at!
-
See you there! I've been racking my brain for questions to ask him as well, I've watched too many of his Clinics on youtube to think of any though!
They have the idea that we must accept gigs wherever possible no matter whether the whole band can make it. Although our few paid gigs make us less than minimum wage and many don't even cover expenses, the singer and guitarist seem quite convinced that this is professionalism. My idea of professionalism for the type of gigs we do is presenting a good quality, consistent sound at every gig and not accepting gigs unless we can do that.
In bloody deed! My band keep insisting I put our unmixed demo CD on our website that has jumps in volume, no bass with extremely loud back up vocals. Yet they think its acceptable to promote ourselves to venues with it. Needless to say whilst I have control over the website/soundcloud/facebook theres not a chance in hell its going on there. Music isnt something you can have the 'Don't worry, that'll do' attitude because if you do, chances are you are going to sound absolutely awful.

Anyone going? My mate has dropped out so I will be lonely! Also where is there to park? Emailed GuitarGuitar and they said they have a car park out the front but from google maps it looks like there only about 3 spaces! ha! -
Thanks for the various offers of lending me amps guys, its really really kind of you and I admire your braveness! The studio bass amp is already hired out apparently, and I would not feel comfortable in lending gear off a fellow bass player as I would feel so guilty if I used someones amp and it died or some idiot punter spilt beer over it when I was using it - even if i couldnt do anything about it, I would just feel absolutely terrible... Thanks for the quick replies on the Ampeg, that was the one I was going more towards so I'm glad I held fire until this morning. It was your replies that reminded be of an interview with Billy Sheehan i watched with him talking about Ampegs decline in quality and his change to Harkte amps. So I've gone and brought the Hartke in the hope it will last longer than 9 months and some how magically makes me play like Bill Sheehan! Ordered for next day delivery from GAK so should be here tomorrow so I'm feeling a lot better now. I think I've been in a massive panic and fluster because in 9 months I've only got to gig with my Laney TWICE because of it breaking down. Again thank you for all your help, I love you all!
-
Go for the Peavey. .. I have that Laney cab and the matching head. .. both I regret now as they've both had to be sent back for repair and its only 6 months old...
Can nobody hire/lend this fellow a decent amp, at least for Saturday..? Seems a shame to have to rush into such a decision. I've got an amp that's up to it, but I'm in France...
thanks dad but I'd be really worried using someone elses amp just in case it broke when I'm playing with it. I'm drawn to the Ampeg just because of the name and the Fender because Ive used one before and liked the tone - just worried how reliable it is.
-
Hi Chaps, My Laney RB9 has once again let me down before a gig, so with no backup this time I need to buy a new amp with next day delivery as I have a gig on Saturday!! I can afford up to £400 max... I've looked at the following... Which one is the least likely to break down on me!? TC Electronic http://www.gak.co.uk...-amp-head/50706 Hartke http://www.gak.co.uk...h500-head/25125 Fender http://www.gak.co.uk...0-head-v3/92781 Ampeg http://www.gak.co.uk...bass-head/45208 Thanks!
Nah I dont agree either. I dont think it should be made manditory. It is a great skill to have, but I think kids should be concentrating on life skills & standard education. An extra curricular subject is fine but having to learn an instrument would be in my mind a bad idea. For instance I showed no interest at all at school about learning an instrument (I couldnt even play a triangle....no joke I failed at the triangle) but after I left school I started considering my love for music & the possibility of creating it for myself. If I'd been made to learn an instrument at school, I doubt I'd have enjoyed it very much.
I feel like fumps is me on another account sometimes...
