1. Personally I play for the enjoyment and because I love music. Getting paid even anything to do a passion of mine to me is absolutely amazing.
2.
I guess you guys that play longer are getting more than our standard £600 for these gigs?
we get £100-£150 to split between 5 of us...
3. I use my old school backpack! Ive got a guitar stand, mic, leads, and my straps in there. Its one less thing to back to the car for as well as i can carry it on my back and free up an extra hand.
4. I'd probably go something Strat based as it will be balanced and relatively easy to play. http://www.gear4music.com/Electric_Guitars/Kids_Electric_Guitars.html Or go into a big music shop like PMT or GuitarGuitar and let him choose!
5. Fender P Bass All other bass guitars are invalid.
6. Moral of the story... Bass is the easier option
7.
I think so. I`m generally invisible to many (make that most) of the audiences, my natural personality is to stand in the background. Even my friendships are usually based on me being mates with someone more outgoing and lively than myself. However I`m the person many people turn to for support as I`m the "rock-steady" person when they`re floundering. I reckon all the above translates pretty well into bassist. Edit - I should also add that whilst I can play guitar, and am a pretty good rhythm guitarist, I don`t really understand the guitar, whereas I feel I do with the bass.
This made me laugh becuase this is litterally me you've just described. I always wanted to be a guitarist, and I've played guitar since I got my first Squire Stratocaster when I was 13. It was only until a couple of years ago I picked up the bass and it just seemed to feel right. It was also damn right easier to play as well!! (Please dont hurt me)
8. Well I'm sort of similar in that I joined at Rock covers band that is now very much a Pop covers band as well. Never thought I would be enjoying playing Taylor Swift and Katy Perry songs!! ha!
9. That is a super cool bass!
10.
Get yourself a subscription to spotify for a few months - it provides themed "radio" which are playlists based on stuff you've listened to, or a genre, or artists etc. I've discovered more new music via that recently than I have in years of buying CD's.
Spotify is a great way to discover new music, it certainly has opened my world up to a hell of a lot more great music
11. Like it! Deffo prefer the black guard as well.
12. Have a listen to a band called Voodoo Six... They supported the Winery Dogs whilst they were in the UK, and they were bloody good live! The bass player was fantastic and plays some more interesting stuff compared to average rock bass player. 13. I find it quite annoying how some people expect you to just lend your kit out to whichever randomer decides to use it. If a band wants to play, they bring their own gear. If they dont, they dont play!
14.
You're selling this to get a bass back that you regret letting go. Can you not see that the cycle will simply continue?!
I was going to say, I bet as soon as you buy this other one you will regret selling this!
15. Yeah not a chance in hell I'd lend my gear to people ESPECIALLY people my age...
16.
Miley Cyrus performing Wrecking Ball, aged 70. Urgh
Lets be honest she won't make it to 70 the way shes going
17.
I get Sims to make me one from the template I provide. A decent tort/pearloid type plate for a 5st would cost around £65 upwards.
£65!!!!
18.
I once bought a strat off eBay, had it sent to work, dismantled it completely during lunchbreak, smuggled the bits home and then announced that I was going to make up a guitar from spare bits & pieces that I had accumulated over the years. The plan worked.
This is the best idea ever...
19. I can tell you what youngsters are interested in these days and that is Made in Chelsea, The Only Way is Essex and Geordie Shore. I'm 21 and I have absolutely no interest in the above, but throughout school and college those above programmes is what everyone ever talked about and was what everyone was interested in. The idea is, you buy the most expensive designer clothing, and then to go out clubbing with the sole intension of making sure the night club photographer takes a photo of you and your mates flexing your biceps, pointing at each other, and looking seriously into the camera. They don't even have fun, and they are far too 'cool' to dance or even have a laugh. In my opinion youths of today are interested in trying to look like the 'stars' of reality TV programmes and want to get as many 'Likes' and 'Followers' on social media as possible. The youth of today are a generation of self obsessed morons.
20. I'm not sure whether these fit 5 strings or not but I've brought stratchplates from both stores and both were excellent: Sensible Scratchplates: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SCRATCH-PLATE-Pickguard-to-fit-USA-Mex-JAZZ-BASS-J-Bass-in-10-Colours-/191149760014?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&var=&hash=item2c8169de0e Less 'normal' Scratchplates: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/46-colours-Jazz-Bass-Scratchplate-Pickguard-Scratch-Plate-Pick-Guard-for-J-Bass-/380834299867?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&var=&hash=item58ab7e3fdb
21. Wow nicely spotted...
22. WE WANT PICTURES!! well I do anyway...
23. We've been toying with the idea of doing some acoustic stuff and I was going to ask the same question. If you have to plug it in you may aswell use an electric... Don't think a double bass would fit in my Seat Ibiza though!!!
24. My band after a year of achieving nothing have finally got our first two proper gigs end of August and start of September so I'm just pleased with that!
25.
Looks the part. Whats your plans for it? Home use or something else?
Just for fiddling about at home to play along to songs that are in different tunings to Standard. Its been rather annoying detuning and retuning constantly.
