Howdy Partners, I'm looking into getting a website set up for my covers band. Has anyone got any experience of who are the best/cheapest companies to use to set one up? And also do you think its worth getting a website when you have the likes of Facebook, Soundcloud etc? Thanks guys
Nobody's mentioned Trace Elliott - those neon green lights do something weird to me...
My friend has a Trace Elliot rig and it looks absolutely freaking amazing! (This is not it - pulled it from google images)

Whats depped?

Strings are a big deal for me when it comes to playing... I recently put some cheap strings on my bass and it sounds absolutely awful! I tend to use the Rotosound 'Swing Bass' strings, they are pricey but worth it IMO

What you did sir was very Rock n Roll! I salute you!

I have to admit I'm a Precision man, but I have never tried a Jazz - would love to try one but it may result in me buying one so I stay clear haha!

Look forward to seeing this!
Hey Weststarx is Gig Gear the old Machinehead Music shop in Harlow under a new name ? Been about 27 year since I was last down that way. Braw Bass Ye Got There
I have no idea to be honest with you! Its only the second time I've been there, funny because each time I've come out with a P bass haha
Nice one, fully agree with both the comments about Precisions and not bothering with anything else (though I get Jazz urges every now & then) and re the pickguards. Aside from on white basses, I just don`t like white pickguards.
Yeah I have to agree with that as well
Congrats on the new bass! I've come to a similar conclusion that a precision is all I need! Granted, one of my Precisions has a 3 band EQ and a Jazz pickup in the bridge but the sentiment still holds true
I was interested in the Fender FSR 'PJ Precision bass' in Seafoam Green but again was worried about the Jazz pickup being in the way. Shame because I absolutely love the colour.
OK Weststarx, we need the full story - what exact model is this? I'm guessing it's new. What else did you try, and what was it about this bass that said to you 'Take me, I'm yours'?
Right, The bass is a MIM Standard Precision Bass. Brand new indeed! I've played a load of different bass' in the past but nothing played as nicely to me as my red precision (the one in my display picture - same model as the black one) so I decided to sell everything that I didn't get on with and thought I would just stick to the P Bass as the only type of bass I play. I love the tone and playability of the Precision Bass and I just feel so at home with them I don't think I will bother with anything else anymore. The only thing I don't like about Fender guitars is the awful pickguards they put on them - as they make the guitars and bass' look 'cheap' IMO, so I've changed them to black ones which gives it a nicer/mean look to them. I also play with a pick and found that bass guitars that have a pickup near to the bridge always got in the way of the pick and I ended up clattering the pickup which sometimes makes a horrible sound. With the P Bass I never had the problem as the pickup is in the centre of the body, so it just feels really comfortable to play. Basically a Precision Bass to me feels like an extension of me, like an extra limb.
Good call on the p/g change. Just need to change the neck to maple to make it perfect.
Never liked the feel, tone or look to a maple neck. Always been a lover of the rosewood! Dare I say it but I think until these bass' get too old to play I'm not going to have GAS for anything else! Maybe I will buy another colour though haha!

Hello! So I picked up this beauty today from Gig Gear in Harlow... I changed the original white scratch plate to the black one to make this one damn sexy bass! Camera phone doesn't do it justice though...

I first saw Frank Turner support Green Day at Wembley Stadium and he was fantastic... I went on a brought he album that was out at the time and have continued to follow him... Peggy Sang the Blues is a personal favourite of mine.

I remember when it was suggested our band do 'One Way or Another'.... I was ready to leave the band after the first time we played it - the bass line wanted to make me top myself!
-
Get out before you commit yourself too much. They should understand, you joined under the impression it was one thing and then they've changed it to something else. Its never fun playing music you dont enjoy even if you get on with the people in your band. Edit: 50th Basschat post - Woo!

<<<<<<< Is a MIM P Bass, best bass in the world as far as I'm concerned...its my baby haha! With some Swing bass Rotosounds its sounds absolutely fantastic.
200 sounds about right, Squier CV series jazzes go used for about 180-220, and they cost about the same new, give or take a tenner. I bought a MIC dimension on Friday, took it back Monday, sounded ghastly through my rig at home, changed it for a MIM jazz, cost more but well worth the extra!
Same reason mines gone... Didnt like the feel of the neck either, plus after playing a precision since I started learning its what I love and what I'm used to, so the Dimension had to go!

Hello All, I recently sold my Fender Dimension bass on Gumtree - for £200 I was emailed a few times by people offering in the region of £120-£150 for the bass. The bass is brand new pretty much, I bought it, decided I hated it, then it slept in a case for a few months. Its a Made in China Modern Player. What do you guys think its worth? Its sold now but I was curious as to whether this is one person sending loads of emails from different address' trying to convince me its worth less or I was trying to sell it for too high of a price. Thanks,
Ultimately you'd either have to spend a lot on separate pedals or get a multi.
I've got a Boss ME20B so I will have a play around with that...if I can work the bloody thing out.

Hello all, My covers band has recently decided to do a few new chart songs and a lot contain a lot of techno-ie bass. Is there anyway to get this type of effect? This is one we're attempting - Its most likely a keyboard that does it but if i can something a long those line that'd be good. Has anyone been to Supatone in Norwich that has opened recently? Would like to check them out!

From what you've said they sound like a massive divas, but surely its his fault for not putting what he wants to hear through a monitor? Did they have a bad night and was looking for something to blame as well? If neither of those things, was the bass amp in the corner of the room?

Thankfully in Cambridge PMT have recently arrived. The other music shop Ken Stevens is useless for stock of bass' and the guys on the guitar desk don't have a clue about any of the gear, and one chap in particular seems like a complete tool (The supervisor i think) as the lady in front of me was asking for some help with a repair and he came across like an A**hole towards her by patronising her and not actually helping her at all. If it wasn't for my girlfriend taking ages trying on 14 different bits of clothes in one shop I would of left and not paid for my item. Last bit of business they're getting from me anyway. I always try to buy all my stuff through PMT as they are always extremely helpful in the stores I've been to.

I actually own one of these and cant wait to get rid of it. I've found only two on the 5 tonal ranges are actually worth using as the other 3 have a dramatic volume decrease. When playing with a pick, if you manage to hit the pickup there's a horrible clattering sound as well. Though It looks absolutely fantastic in my opinion, so I'm heartbroken that it plays so awful for me.
