Often I've turned up to practice having learnt a few new songs only to get there and the singer had apparently decided that they didnt like it after agreeing to it the week before - doesnt tell anyone.

Messing it up three times is pretty bad... I'd ask for a refund or at least a discount of 40%-50% for the fact that they have sent you a unclean product that is still incorrect after you've given them 3 opportunities to make it right and its taken a month. It's not fair for you to pay for a product that doesn't work and for a service that doesn't exist. Without swearing at them, give them a serious phone call...

I guess it all flutters down to what you are comfortable with and enjoy playing!

Ive learnt the shape of a major scale but nothing else. They're something I want to learn, but I just dont have the patience for. I just wanna rock and play songs!

I remember reading somewhere about sound proofing, for Guitars its generally easy, but the low frequency of a bass however travels through walls considerably more - Which is why you only really hear the bass player when you go to the toilet at a gig. (I had to tell my girlfriend to go do this once becuase she didnt know what I was actually playing ) I would just try and add as much thickness to those walls as possible or turn down.

Without painting them all with the same brush the following problems usually occur: - Some don't drive - Unreliable - Can't afford reahearsal space because they work part time - Can't be bothered to practice - Immature attitude towards everything - No communication Its because of the above I generally avoid playing with people the same age or younger than me. For me if the music is there and good, I couldnt care less how old someone was as long as I got on with them. I mean who would turn Billy Sheehan away because of his age? (Apologies for moving slightly off topic there)

I can imagine I would of looked like I had a speaker for a head I've suggested open mic nights, but I get the 'oh well I'd rather use my guitar rig' excuse. I've been offered a little half hour support slot which is again met with the same excuse.

[/quote] I too had a similar experience... The band I was looking to join was an orginals band that wanted to do rock/metal music. I turned up a few weeks and all they talked about was image, stage names and band names BEFORE any note was even played on a instrument. I had a moan and asked why we wernt doing anything or even sharing musical ideas as I was turning up with all my gear after an 45 min drive to not even play music. A few days later I got dumped because I didnt have the 'emo look'... (I'm too tall, blonde hair, no tattoos). I had never been so confused before - how could I be dumped before they've even heard me play!?

I've always used Laney amplifiers. When I first joined a band my dad gave me this big old huge laney 4x10 combo which is older than me (I'm 21) and to this day its the best amp we've both used (He's using a trace elliot rig now), but as its older than old I thought it'd be best not risk using it in a gig incase it breaks down - Eventhough it never has! So I went and recenly brought a Laney Cab and Head (which i've linked below) for £500 altogether and it is absolutely awesome - lighter to carry as well. I know you're asking for combo amps but if you can afford £500ish i would highley reccommend this Laney rig... Hello all! Found this site through another bass forum weirdly enough and as its UK based I'd prefer to use this one I've been playing guitar since I was 13 but switched to bass a few years back now and play your everyday boring Fender Precision bass but its my pride and joy! I have a Fender Dimension bass as well which I was an impulse buy because it looked so great but thinking back I obviously brought it on looks alone which is a school boy error as I cant stand to play the thing now. Signed up to JamPlay recently which i've really been enjoying - learning from the likes of the great Billy Sheehan! Will be sticking around making posts where I think I can contribute.
