1.
I have a price list in my head. I don't do mates rates I charged my own cousin full price for a do in December.
Exactly, because it's your cousin, not the bands. If you did mates rates, they might be cheesed off as he ain't no mate of theirs!
2. I say , ask him how much he would pay for five plumbers to come out on a Saturday night! People don't seem to realise the work involved, plus the personal expense. Functions are notoriously hard to play especially as some folk feel you are their captive band and you have to do their bidding without argument. 400 quid sounds reasonable to me, but if you charge 200 for a pub, then maybe go for 250-300
3. We went to see The Temerance Movement in Glasgows Barrowland last night. Everyone was there to see them, but we were there to see the support The Sheepdogs. They were brilliant, such good harmonies with vocal and guitar. Temerance Movement were good too, but I'm not so familiar with their material. After The Sheepdogs finished we moved back as it was getting quite angsty down the front. We timed it right because the singer of TTM commented on what was going on in front of him when he was trying to concentrate. There's always some arsehole spoils it for others!
4. I've got a Boss pedal but I never use it. I used it years ago on one song and now I cart it around and never press it
5.
Last 3 bands I went to see live were: Most recently a folk group, whose name escapes me, in a packed pub tearing it up totally acoustically. Amongst their ranks was a guy playing the tambourine like I’ve never heard before – he made it sound like a drum kit! I spoke to him after the gig and he explained how he slackens the tension of the skin so that he can stretch it with the fingers of his holding hand to get different pitches out of it and thus produce a flurry of toms or a bass drum or whatever. He said it sounds even better through a PA. Prior to that I saw a classic rock covers band with a twist. King Rocker by name. Purple, Sabbath, Led Zep, AC/DC etc belted out by a tight band fronted by an Elvis impersonator. Hearing Highway Star and Rock and Roll as sung by Elvis is an experience you don’t forget in a hurry. After the gig Mrs Ag had her photo taken with “Elvis” . https://youtu.be/Dqx3ckCfgYA?t=3m16s Last stadium headliners I saw: The mighty RRRRRRRRRRRammstein https://youtu.be/eSaa3vC_n2k?list=PLVTLbc6i-h_gbCq8E8SNXJuSh2XqzhZfg
I am somewhat jealous. Those sound like very good bands and I have wanted to see Rammstein for years, but have never got the chance for one reason or another
6. Barefaced cabs can be as bright sounding as you want !
7.
This is like judgng my character from Katie Hopkins rant. Who the bigger A***hole really?
Another thread should've started about who hates that vile woman the most. I'm going first. I can't stand the horrible bugger and am amazed that she gets airtime again and again. Just shows you that she obviously makes money for someone by courting controversy !
8. I always loved panic in Detroit , but if it's the more popular ones, then Thursday's child is superb!
9.
Apparently as I dislike all the songs, the internet thinks I'm not an asshole, but that's just nonsense because I know for sure that I am. Surveys!! They are meaningless...
I'm pretty sure it's done with the tongue firmly in cheek. I too, like some of the songs, so by default, I'm an asshole too. Music is subject to taste, so one mans asshole is another mans mate!
10.
A beautiful eulogy from his lad.
+10
11. We watched it and found it to be very moving. Some beautiful eulogies from some very well spoken people. There were some laughs as his friends remembered the funnier moments, but some real lump in the throat moments too. All in all, a very fitting send off for a real legend. Just a pity that the sound went just at Dave Grohls eulogy.
12.
To have nothing and make this from nothing shows a high degree of skill and determination. I think pieces like this need to be applauded rather than derided. There is no comparison between this and people who take manufactured gear and butcher it.
Couldn't agree more! I enjoyed watching that and even found myself being hypnotised by his soft voice and description of this bass. Three cheers to the maker I say. The neck looks lovely!
13.
Motorhead for number 1? 30 versions to choose from... https://sites.google...otorheadforno1/
Here's hoping. At the very least, it's going to chart at its highest point ever!
14. http://www.mandatory.com/2014/02/26/if-you-like-any-of-these-songs-you-are-a-total-asshole/
15. I very sceptical about this, as I believe the wood on an electric guitar makes bugger all difference to the sound once it's plugged in. Acoustic instruments, yip, the wood is very important, but I've seen guitars with hardly any wood, or perhaps aluminium, sounding great purely because it's all about the strings, pickups, and bridge!
16.
When i hear a band doing their version of a song... great, i want to hear that. but when i hear a band doing covers wrong,,,,thats when i want to run away.
How do you know if it's their version or they are doing it wrong?
17. American Pie, hate it with the preverbial passion !
18.
Having just watched numerous documentarys and music i really wish things had worked out in hawkwind, they are deffo his most interesting lines.I still can't get Motorhead, didn't really like his attitude towards women and thought he was very arrogant in the White line fever book, should really read a Dave brock biog if there is one.,I have taken a lot of speed over the years and it definitely did not leave my willy in any state to sleep with a thousand women,I'm sure he was fibbing about how many he slept with.no denying he was one of the people who made me want to be a musician and I really admired his honesty about things like war, drugs, music etc. it feels a bit like when Freddie Mercury died tbh not a huge fan but loved them being in my dads record collection.RIP Lem.
Mate, you were taking the wrong drugs! I have not touched any such thing for a long time, but when I was, I can tell ya, I could f*** for the UK!
19.
I learned a valuable lesson - when in doubt, turn the bass up & then turn it all up ! R.I.P. Lemmy.
So true! Great story !
20.
I bet Phil Taylor, Lemmy and Scott Weiland are having a right old knees up right now So hard to believe that 3 outstanding musicians have gone this year. I was a huge STP fan. Found them on "The Word" in about 1993. It's all gone tits for arse this year
Apparently, Phils death hit him hard and he suffered from depression after that. I read that he had to go in for a check up and they found cancer all over his brain and neck. The doctor gave him between two and six months to live. They brought in morphine equipment in preparation for expected pain killing. He died two days later. Apparently sitting in front of a games machine, he just drifted off and never woke up. I reckon it's what he would have wanted rather than suffering.
21. His autobiography is a great read. He really had an amazing rock n roll life. I'm just glad he didn't suffer too long.
22. Very sad news. A real rock icon gone. RIP man !
23. If so, get off your computer and go and enjoy family time. Play with the kids, dogs, cats, whatever. If you are alone, then heartfelt apologies, things will get better I hope. Note: this is a tongue in cheek post. I wish everyone happiness X HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!
24. We watched the Eagles one and I was amazed at the hatred that was evident between certain members. It even showed a full blown argument on stage with death threats et al. The Journey one about their search for anew singer is good too. On a completely different tangent, Netflix documentaries, "The War" is awesome!
