1. Do it all yourself if you are able. Then when your first album goes platinum, you won't have to split the dosh!
 2. I concur with all the sentiment. Have a great time everyone, whatever you like to do, be it getting drunk and eating too much, or be it abstaining and going for a run. Whatever your M.O. I hope you enjoy.
 3. I had a Samson one which had the transmitter built into the jack. It was great until you wanted to play a guitar with a "strat" type socket. It wouldn't fit, which was annoying as I use two timings, so swap guitars often. I had to go back to a lead
 4.
Lucky man...and the Roy Wood tune too...I couldn't write a song to save my life...hats of to these guys.
I quite forgot the Wizard song. We are all sick of it, but it's an incredible song and still makes me feel Christmasy!
 5. I agree Tull are a winter band. I'd never thought of it, but even if you listen to them in Summer, they evoke a Wintery feeling. Solstice et all. As for the Beatles, they shouldn't be listened to at any time of the year, regardless of mood!
 6. Old flats= dead spots New rounds= musical bliss
 7.
Some of the old ones are rather nice too. When a child is born - I can't remember the guys name who sang that.
Johnny Mathis. I have my mum to thank for that as she subjected my younger self to his warblings relentlessly !
 8. Personally, I like the Strawberry Switchblade song. It's just got something. I hear Kylie getting hammered on the radio just now with her bounteous album of Christmas crackers. I'm sure there's bound to be a few on there that will become legendary!
 9.
I'm pretty sure Johnny B Good is more rock n roll than blues. You might dislike both. Blue
Well, I would call it 12 bar blues, but I'm not going to nit pick
 10.
Johnny B Goode is a great tune with great energy and folk love it so why shouldn't it be played? People sometimes forget that playing live is for the enjoyment of the people listening and the players. If the open mic night is in a place with a mixed audience and the people playing enjoy it then it's going to be a winner. Glad you enjoyed your night
I appear to have offended and I whole heartedly apologise, but as you say, it's for the enjoyment of everyone and I don't like listening to everyone doing blues classics over and over, which is why I avoid these things. If you guys like it, fair play, go and enjoy it Edit, I seem to have become a bit cynical in my old age after hearing songs like this done to death by countless bands. It just seems to be the staple of open mic nights. Again, I apologise. Everyone has differing tastes.
 11.
Exactly, I find it almost sad to say that if I were looking for a Precision or a Jazz the last place I'd be looking is Fender, especially if buying new, but even I was buying vintage. I've owned/still own 70's Precisions by Yamaha and Ibanez and, despite costing no more than £300 each, both blow 70's Fenders out of the water. My current Yam is better than all of my pre-CBSs. Whilst the current Fender product line is clearly more QC consistent by comparison with earlier eras, so it bloody well should be a for a company that have been doing it for 60+ years. The problem is however that they charge a massive premium for the name. I'm not exaggerating when I say that Yamaha have better instruments in their budget ranges than Fender have in their Custom Shop range. Even Fender's standard MIA offering is creeping up to the level for which you can buy a pretty outstanding instrument from a whole range of better builders like Sadowsky. They're not alone of course, Rics are even worse, at least Fender have their current QC sorted, Ric are still sending unplayable 4003s to shops at close to £2000.
Not that you are exaggerating at all !
 12.
Yuuuuuuuup ! Have a babycham on me
No wahalla mate, have a good one x
 13.
Its getting too complicated for me now, so it will have to remain LED-less
Am I vindicated then ?
 14. Easy, just take it to a music shop and ask them to do it! Seriously, that level of repair, I would leave to a pro. , but you might be more industrious.
 15.
I disagree - the OP admits he's a bit out-of-the-loop. This thread will probably alert him to a number of options he wasn't familiar with previously.
I disagree again, look at the multitude of suggestions!
 16.
The best P bass is the one that you play which feels right and sounds right to you. Anything else really doesn't matter.
Quite! This question has so many answers that it will become ridiculous. Some cheap basses feel and sound amazing as do boutique level basses. There's also lots of rubbish throughout. I haven't tried every make but think Sandbergs are hard to beat, then again, I always take my Fenders when we gig .
 17. http://youtu.be/QYkJ0M1bUIU And Tom sure plays a mean bass!
 18. Second support was colour of noise. Great band!
 19. Just seen the Dead Daisies at the Cathouse in Glasgow. Great venue, really intimate and boy, they put on a great show. Superb sound too. The supports were excellent too. The Wild Lies and another band I'm not sure of yet but we're really good. Dead Daisies-Highly recommended !
 20.
Junior Walker & the Allstars at the California, Dunstable. - I paid (unusual for me) for the girlfriend and me to go in, and left after the first number, it was all unbelievably bad. On the same subject, I watched half the audience walk out of the Talk of the Town when Stevie Wonder managed to be complete & utter sh*te - it happens..........
At least he wouldn't have noticed. I'll get me coat
 21. Sweet and innocent by Diamond Head. It's so old, but still gives me a buzz when I hear the riff!
 22.
And it turned up. Sounds great, sadly has a dent on the front side, so I guess its going back
Now let's not be too hasty, this dent can be fixed surely? At that price I'd be trying to sort it myself !
 23.
I'll second that. Every gig I've ever been to in the SECC had terrible sound. Big tin shed. Not good.
Yip, dreadful place for good sound. The SSE Hydro seems a lot better. At least all the gigs I've been to have had pretty good sounds. I've heard some folks moan but I reckon it depends where you are.
 24. I've been to plenty gigs where the sound was bad and I think it's unfortunate if we brand the band as being poor just because of their sound although it does contribute to ruining your night. Some venues are inherently bad for sound and I've seen me take a rain check on some gigs purely cos I know where it is ( SECC, you know I'm talking about you)
