1. How the hell do bands expect people NOT to take pictures in this day and age? I remember getting told off by a steward for doing the same. I was like, have a look around you idiot! Everyone was doing it, but she felt the need to stop me!
2. That's very sad, he was a great singer. I love both STP and Velvet Revolver. He did have a problem with drugs apparently. 48 is no age
3.
Well it's kind of a rediculous premise, I agree. Really it's just me asking folks about their most loved bass and amp. So what are yours?
I was only joking mate, as said, I would take me P bass and the old SVT2 mit der Barefaced Super twin !
4.
They stay faithful to the recordings, then?
5.
Saxon 1979 supporting Slade. Vardis 1982 supporting Slade Slade were of course magnificent every time I saw them. Those two support bands got booed off.
I seen Saxon in 1980 , and lo, they were great. They must have put some practice in
6.
I'd imagine it's easier playing guitar with a broken leg than it is playing drums with a disclocated shoulder, even if it is only Meg White-esqe stuff. Although I've seen BK twice and both times I had an awesome time. Bad gigs for me were probably Kiss and Motley Crue at this years Download fest, lots of fire and jumping about but just a bit crap really - if I could of left I probably would have.
I did say reschedule . I never expected him to play with his sore shoulder. I love the Black Keys by the way.
7. Johnny B Goode? This is why I avoid open mic nights. Sorry, but I just can't stand blues classics being re run over and over ! Bah humbug !
8. We have a PA postcode which means couriers think we are in Paisley, so there's no excuse for that!
9.
No Blackmore, No Purple IMO.
I concur!
10.
Go West/ Nick Kershaw/ Carol Decker at the Cliff's pavilion last night in a 'we've been doing it for 30 years' type tour. Carol Decker had a 30 min slot (fnarr etc) the others mixed and matched all night. Been a fan of Go West all that time and they were as good as they have ever been. Never seen Carol Decker - she still belts it out but probably 30mins was the limit of listenable-to material. Nick Kershaw was a revelation - a surprisingly small man, especially when he walked on stage with Peter Cox, but huge stage presence, charisma and musicianship. Another top evening's entertainment.
Don't know if anyone remembers the show " reborn in the USA " , but Peter Cox was the standout performer on that, what a voice, just a pity he forgot the words in his competition song !
11. Five bucks a song? I think I'll carry on the way I've been going thanks
12. I had a Saxon Wheels of Steel tour shirt that lasted for ever. Unfortunately, I was about 20 sizes smaller when I was able to sport it. Space saving meant that I finally had to submit to pressure and get rid of it
13. I liked Dave Grohls attitude. He said we ain't gonna go off pretending we ain't coming back, just so you can shout for us. We are just gonna play a bit longer. The Foos have the greatest attitude towards their fans. On the other hand, way back in the 80's, Diamond head kept going off but kept coming back because the crowd were going mental. They came back on 4 times! Even after the lights came on, they still did another song. One of the highlights of my gigging career. As for disappointments , the only time was when bands didn't come back on!
14. What kind of island is this? That has no inhabitants, yet a working power supply. I assume said power supply would need a source, i. e. a generator. Perhaps it's a sunny island and has solar power or maybe offshore wind power. Whichever one would require regular maintenance or your jamming might be short lived
15.
I think there was a brief period after Adamson's death but before Peters joined where Tony Butler did lead vox, presumably they gigged as a 3 piece for that time, did a live album 'Twenty Five Live'.
That must have been what I heard. I didn't research it, I'd just heard through here say.
16.
I saw Fanny at Brunel Uni. They had a couple of good covers like Ain't That Peculiar, but apart from that they really weren't worth the bus fare. Sadly, I gave up a Zoot Money gig to see them.
But can you imagine having a shirt with a great big "Fanny" emblazoned on the chest?
17. My American standard P and my Ampeg SVT2 and Barefaced Super twin!
18. I was reminded today about a band that I wish I'd seen called Fanny, purely because I would have loved a tour t shirt!
19.
Stuart Adamson was the guitarist! And the singer and songwriter. The lineup that's been touring recently is fronted by Mike Peters from The Alarm. Good vocalist but very different to Stuart, I've not seen them so can't comment about whether it works or not. J.
The OTHER guitarist !
20.
I guess that's what I'm actually looking for; a bass that you can easily shift on, and one that's ideal for slap-bass as well. Any stand-outs? I know Ibanez necks are quite smooth to play on, but I'm not sure, otherwise.
I've got a K5. It's a great guitar but the neck is really thin ( which is typical of Ibanezeseses) I struggle with the tight string spacing. Maybe it's my sausage fingers! Right enough.
21. I forgot Big Country! I never seen them and wish I had. I heard they were touring with the guitarist doing the singing ( can't remember his name) can't imagine it being as good, but would still like to see them !
22. I have nothing, but am sick that I dumped all my ticket stubs from years ago. I had loads and it was a real bit of nostalgia !
23. I've boiled them twice before. Never noticed them becoming weaker but they don't seem to brighten as much after the first cleaning. It's amazing how much gunk comes out when you boil them !
24. I am a total Fender nut, but I have to say, for metal, it's gotta be Spector, Spector, Spector. They just have that growl that Fenders can't replicate.
