1. My job means I have to stop for a full month every second month, which is certainly not the standard of break like you guys are talking about, but is still a real pain!
2.
It may just be me but. Who really cares if you don't like something ? It just seems a little dumb to ask why you don't like some thing, could be because you just don't, Just don't buy one SIMPLES !
Hear hear, too true, just buy what you like....... easy
3. I've been making it up as I go along for about 35 years now and have never had any problems
4.
My estimate would be that most musicians who ever lived played what people wanted to hear and most audiences want to hear material they recognise. The more original your material (and really original is a very rare thing) the less likely you are to earn a living.
Couldn't agree more! Where I come from, if you play originals, folk are not interested. They want the same material that they know they can dance to . We tried originals a while back and got no interest. Then again maybe the songs were crap. I suppose if you are writing good enough material and working hard at it, you would get away with originals. Years ago, we toyed with the idea of going out and playing covers all over the place, but in the end we chickened out as it would become a chore travelling all the time . I'm glad we didn't , because now there are so few places to gig compared to the 90's!
5. I missed it all as I was working but caught some on iplayer. I really liked Dolly but to believe that she actually played any of those instruments with those nails..... C'mon ?
6. I always have visions of starting with a bang but our bloody guitarist, who has OCD insists on tuning up, even though this was done earlier, then playing through most of the parts of the song that we intend to do, before taking a sip of his drink and then looks at the rest of us and says ok, are yous ready? AAAAARGH!
7. If they are passives, are you sure it's smoke and not just steam. There is no circuitry in a passive speaker, maybe it's just dampness
8. I find the problem is getting a uniform finish on all sides at once. Tried a bent piece of wire through a neck screw hole onto the washing line and that seemed to work. Still tricky though!
9.
Get one of each. Happy times
Damn you man! You have just released the GAS monster in his entirety !
10. I would get on to the seller and complain. You buy audio equipment and it should work! If it don't, you have been ripped off. As was said, take a look, but if something has burnt out, chances are the seller knew this was an issue and offloaded to you. Did he state that it was in perfect working order? Was the amp well packaged or did you pick up? If you picked up, then he knew there was a problem. Mail order could be a bit trickier as he will say it was working when he sent it. It's his problem if something is goosed, so exercise your rights! Just re read that you said smoke coming from speakers! Are they active speakers! If so, same as before, if passive , then gawd knows what's smokin!
11.
Flutes and trumpets generally don't sound like an elephant being rogered with a chainsaw.
Again, I disagree!
12.
I once had the 'pleasure' of standing next to a bagpiper playing indoors. Amazing instrument out in gods fresh air but they should NEVER be played indoors.
Couldn't disagree more mate. Coming from North of the border, I was brought up on the skirl of the pipes and I find the sound exhilarating even indoors. If you ever been to a Scottish wedding and heard the pipes being played by a decent player, you would understand. What is the difference between pipes being played loudly and say a flute, or trumpet?
13. Don't buy a Boss synth pedal! It sounds dreadful with bass, unless you are playing single notes. It does, however, sound awesome when a drum machine is played through it!
14. I thought I had an easy choice to make. Now I realise it's a bloody minefield!
15. Always nice when you get someone who has no clue selling stuff. You just have to be the one to discover these gems !
16. I was doing ok till I read the bit about having a personality, that's me fooked now!
17.
I just looked up some examples and the Music Man Sterling was more expensive than the Stingray. Do you mean the Sterling By Music Man Ray4 & Ray34 ranges?
Now you really have me confused, I thought the Sterling was the cheaper version of the MM range
18.
I seem to recall that the vendor (Tune-o-Matic) has some history ...
Can you elaborate ?
19. I have recently, as is the way of my GAS, started to "need" a Musicman bass . I was just wondering if any of you good people in bass land who have road tested such beasts could tell me should I splurge out on a Stingray or go for the more affordable Sterling ? I have watched various YouTube vids to try and make a decision , but it's not always easy to tell from videos just how they sound . I wouldn't want to go for the cheaper option then regret it later . I know the Sterling is a great sounding bass but just how much better, if at all, is the Stingray ?
20.
Don't understand? but being an athesist I do not need any guidance other than my own. Sorry for your loss, which if you stop playing it will be...
Amen to that brother !
21. I too, was never a fan at the tim, but have since developed a deep respect for them since finding out about their pedigree in the music business. Apparently they are very much respected as musicians by musicians. I just couldn't stand all that cockney avin a larf, knees up muvver brahn type stuff!
22. Very well played and although it didn't need it, the slapping was well done. Ok, it's flashy and overdone, but the guys just mucking about, so why not embellish a bit? I do go for the less is more school of thought generally, but still can appreciate talent when I hear it. Stop knocking the guy, he done good !
23. There are definitely a few bedroom w***ers out there posting on YouTube, but also as said before, a lot of folk who want to be seen and maybe spotted by bands or labels. I guess there's lots of poseurs too. I have never felt the urge to play on YouTube as it's just asking for trolls to tear you down. Each to their own I guess
24.
Cheers, not seen these. I'd like to try them too, but they'd have to be pretty special for me to take them over TI's! When my flats need changing next decade I will give them a whirl.
I cant think of anything worser than having strings on for more than two gigs!!!
