I got one a few months back and I absolutely love it. It sounds the mutts and is so light. I have found the cab of my dreams!

I thought I was alone in this feeling. Its good to know that others feel the same way. I always think , right , Ive seen them, lets go. As you say, small gigs that are intimate and you can see the band are great, but stadium gigs are pants. I was at Rush a few years back and the gig was ruined by a couple of drunks who shouted the whole night for Zanadu. Every time a song finished "ZANADU...ZANADU!" It ruined the night for us especially when the lights went up and it turned out to be two skinny little runts who I could have taken but seeing as Im a shi**e bag, I didn't say anything. Nah, big gigs are not as good as they are cracked up to be, especially as you get older I can't understand how the Kate Bush gigs are being touted as a tour when they are all in bloody London. London is not the centre of the universe, at least not for all of us!

Happened to me recently with my Ampeg valve amp. I went straight into the desk with a DI. Sounded rotten but got us through. Turned out it was shoddy electrics in the venue ( a stable) and there was nothing wrong with my amp....phew!

I have GAS a lot ! I find that I spend too much time looking at the inter web and thinking I need this or that instead of playing the stuff I already own! Its fun but financially crippling!

I have always played by ear and have never had any problems but then again, I started learning when you had to keep lifting the needle off the record to listen to pieces again and again. I have always had a band to interact with, so again, no problems. Thing is, I recently started thinking, I need something more, so I started getting guitar lessons. Ive always had a rudimentary ability on guitar, but wanted to learn proper like, so now I am finding a completely new interest in , not just guitar , but bass too, as I now have a decent clue about theory and what notes I am actually playing, due to scales and such, so, I would say if you want to really get into your instrument, by all means take lessons, but not just bass lessons. Guitar lessons from a decent teacher will bring you on on both instruments. Good luck and I hope you are happy with whatever you choose to do

Its all down to taste isn't it? I prefer a flat EQ with the mids pushed slightly. That way I cut through the rest of the band nicely without getting boomy bass. I do admit that in my practise room, scooped mids sounds great. I just find that for a nice balance, mids have to be pushed

Never been to Zwick but I have spent some time in Hamburg and seen a few really good bands. I have a friend who lives there and sings in a rock band. They play a place called Molly Malones quite a lot and that place is always jumping. The live scene in Hamburg is brilliant and the Reeperbahn is amazing to experience, highly recommended, although those with a sensitive disposition should probably avoid!

As a newcomer to this site, though I have been playing for many years, my suggestion would be if you can't face taking time to pick up the bass, then maybe you have to admit its not for you. The bass is an unforgiving instrument if you have no one to jam with. Unless you are very good, it can sound a bit boring on its own. Sometimes you need a guitar or drums to bring it out from its boring shell. Believe me mate, if you stick at it, it can become the most satisfying hobby you have ever taken up. Its the same as with anything else, practise , practise and then practise some more. As some people have said before, why not try an open night or something of that ilk, to see what joy can be brought through jamming. The satisfaction of making even simple music with another like minded person is hugely satisfying if you stick at it. Good luck and I hope you keep at it
