Guitar Guitar in Glasgow has plenty of 5 string basses. Fretless, lefties , you name it. I thought that was normal.

Funnily enough, I am not a huge fan but I have all of their albums and when they come on on random I quite enjoy them but I totally agree about Bonio. He is an annoying twatt!

Personally, I think they are too commercial for the heavy metal fans and too heavy for the pop fans. If you go past their singles they have some great songs.

I created a thread ages ago asking why so many didn't like Nickelback. Some said because they are shyte and various other insults. I like them and saw them live a few years ago. They were great and had a superb sound. They are one of the most successful rock bands ever so I guess they don't mind too much.

Not on this particular thread but there have been other mentions of Adam Clayton where he got some terrible stick from some. Same with Mike Kroeger.

I don't get the hatred of Clayton. Same as the hatred for Mike Kroeger out of Nickelback. They play just what the songs need. Maybe they are told to just play what's needed. If you look at Cliff Williams from AC/DC, he is told to keep it simple. Same with the drumming. No fills or rolls. Just simple. Let Angus take the spotlight. None of these guys care as they are pocketing a fortune and the fans are happy.

I always think this when folk slag off players. Im sure they are worried about your opinion as they drive their Lotus into their massive driveway.

I agree but I also disagree as looks are very important too.

Every time you hear fake fart noises they always sound more like skitters than a nice safe dry fart.

I take your point, wrong turn of phrase. wombling all over a fretboard is more apt.

I can grasp it. I know they are there to entertain and a long drawn out solo might be their idea of entertaining but it's not mine. As said, until being blue in the face, any instrument taking LEAD is great. It's when everyone else stops and said musician subjects the audience to minutes of twiddling and twaddling to show their expertise that I get bored.

I admit in the past I have been cheering to solos just as much as anyone else but I realised I don't really enjoy this. It's like when your favourite artist is doing something on his instrument you cheer. You don't go oh, it was ok but get back into the songs. You just go with the crowd. Some artists could fart and they would get a cheer.

Bass taking a lead part in the song is to my mind different from a solo. The very word solo means alone. This is what sinks my boat. I don't want to hear drums, bass , guitar or keys on their own showing off.

Couldn't agree more. Bass and drum solos bore the sheeite out of me. In fact outwith a song I don't care much for guitar solos either. By all means show your chops during the song as long as it fits with the beat and rhythm but to take centre stage and widdle away is when I think right, time for a pint.

Listening to this after watching "The Take" on Netflix. Really enjoyed the movie and at the end I was thinking that sounds like Idris Elbas voice. I looked it up and it grows on you.

Pubs used to be pubs selling pies or sandwiches. Over the years they have evolved into restaurants.

Theres a bar in my home town which in the 90's was THE place to play. It had live music on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I recently went in for a pint on a Saturday night and there were only about a dozen people in at 11 pm. I asked the barman if this was usual and he said oh, but it was mobbed earlier for bar meals. That is what they are catering for now. It was a sad day.

I dragged a tray around with me that had distortion, chorus, flange, compression and a tuner............ I only ever used the tuner!

I used to go to guitar lessons from a guy who is an amazing guitar player. He told me he had got this gig with the band Coast. He is now their guitarist but at that point he was doing the tour as bass player, We were talking about my gear and I said I will give you a shot of my Geddy Lee Jazz. He took it and toured all around Europe with it and when he returned it he told me how the rest of the band loved it and always asked was he using it on particular nights. The point is, I trusted him implicitly as I know he looks after gear. Trouble is he returned it with the same strings that I had put on before giving it to him. This was after he had said I will put new strings on before giving it back. He never even gave me a free guitar lesson. He is an incredibly talented musician but he a selfish twatt too!🤣
