  1. Man back in the 90's when we were really busy, I found that the easiest part. I was always making eye contact with girls and loved if they were doing the same. I did some amount of sh***ing back then because of the band. I used to slag my mate, the guitarist because he always got guys coming up to him and asking about his pedals and I used to get girls because I was the singer. We used to say that he got all the boffins and I got the babes 😂
  2. I still love this band and listen to them regularly. How they never made it bigger is a travesty!
  3. Can I add? Me being the frontman (singer as well as bass player) I tried my best but our acoustic guitar player always looked like someone had killed his cat. People commented on it but he would never crack a smile whilst playing. Our lead guitarist tried his best too but he was the main reason for long gaps in between songs as he tuned up constantly. Back when smoking was allowed he used to spark up, take a few puffs, take a sip of his drink, take another few puffs, tune up, take another few puffs, take another drink from his pint, then turn to me and say right, are you ready? All this time I am staring at him and waiting. Ready to kick into the next number. It used to drive me up the wall!
  4. Good advice but I find planning what you are going to say can be a problem if like us, you were playing the same places in a small town. The old "Hello Cleveland, this is one from our first album" doesn't wear here. When half the audience sees you around town you can't come away with rock star stuff or you would get crucified. We used to face up to the fact that most people were there to get pished and pick up girls, not listen to an old rock band.If we could get a cheer or a clap after a song we were delighted.
  5. Our drummist was in two bands and we didn't mind that much up until he started turning down our gigs because he had gigs with his other band. He was out then.
  6. Careful what you wish for. It may come when you least expect it. Avoid open spaces and change clothes often.
  7. Damn, I just wasn't quick enough to stop the fish puns. Unfortunateley they get wheeled out every time there is fish theme. Everyone tends to go overboard.
  8. Well they could be in a position like me. Band going great. We could gig for a whole month every second month as I was working 28/28. Then someone reports me for sending a humorous email and I get sacked. Back to the ad hoc squads where I work whenever I get called. I get told oh, you should be back in two weeks. Two weeks turns into three. After three weeks I am only entitled to a week off but they count the day I get back as a day off and the day I travel back to work as a day off so it's only five full days I can get off. Then in the Winter I can be off for weeks. Then there's other times I am told I am away for three weeks and I am back home after five days. It means that I cannot even get the band together for rehearsals never mind gigs. I know I could get another job that allows me to stay at home and get weekends off but I would have to take a massive pay cut and we just can't do that just now.
  9. Helps to have basses like Warwicks too. I had a Spector and you could get this very powerful clank from it. The pick ups and sound pump make such a difference.
  10. Just remember cow poop baffles brains. Bluff it and if you stuff up just say you are nervous.
  11. You must be fun on a night out when the cover band are playing!
  12. So it's not as good as the original. I actually agree on this as I love Alanis Morrisette but that's not the point. I thought it was a good cover. Yes not as angry but the guitars made up for that, I did say that the suggestion had turned me onto Grouplove which is a good thing in my opinion.
  13. Opinions are like derrière holes as they say.
  14. In fact I rilly like them! A unique sound.
  15. This came up on my youchoob suggestions. I like it a lot!
  16. Did someone say something?
  17. It's criminal this band are not famouser than they are. I just love their laid back Summer feel.
  18. I have to say I am jealous of some of you guys being back playing and also some of the set ups you have. I hated having to sing and play bass all the time. Especially when the guitarist wanted songs rushed into the set with little rehearsal.
  19. I think you are being a bit harsh on the singer mate. If that is a first attempt then that's more than ok. The guy has a decent voice and I'm sure with a bit of work that would sound ace. Nice bass tone by the way.
  20. Yeah but as I said, I used to have to learn two parts. We could play the songs easily enough once we had learned it but playing is one thing. When you have to also sing over a new song when you are not totally sure of both parts is hard. When you are the singer you need to know your bass parts like muscle memory so that you can concentrate on the singing.
  21. Only a fretless player can possibly know what this is as fretted players like moi only know the dead on note as in precision. I bow to your expertise in said field that you can muck about to cure boredom. Obviously my ear could tell if a note wasn't quite on the mark but if I tried to play fretless I would be like Les Dawson on acid.
  22. I am jealous as flip to hear about all your gigs as my job has curtailed my gigging. I can't plan ahead as I never know when I will be away or back.
