  1. It makes a difference when you are playing in a three piece as you say. The bass doesn't have to fight with other instruments to be heard so a flat or smiley face eq works. If the bass is getting lost in the mud of a five piece band, pushing the mids is favourable.
  2. In what way do you prefer it to the Gibson? Sound, looks, weight?
  3. Music on random and this beauty came on!
  4. I have always liked the Cure but the Prevention are better!
  5. I'm sorry but I think you are picking hairs. When I first heard Close To You as a teenager the first thing that jumped out to me was the bass. I thought it was so prominent. Obviously there are other instruments alongside it but it was the constant bass that spoke to me. A simple but so effective bass line. I love it to this day. I think we are just going to disagree about this being a bass driven song. I respect your opinion but I have a different one.
  6. I like Wyatt too and Paul Anthony is ok but I can't stick Danny Bowes. Thunder is just the kind of rock that I find kind of bleh. I like rock and metal but just could never get on with Thunder.
  7. I remember way back when we first started out with the two piece. We were asked to play in one of the hotel bars. The owner was so worried about volume that he kept telling us to turn down. It was to the point where I didn't really need a mic. That was torture and had people sitting sipping gins and tonics with zero atmosphere and not much fee. We played there a few times only because I quite fancied the barmaid.
  8. I want to know, you buy a new bass and ask someone to take a picture of you holding it. Why is your choice to stand in a bath? 🤣
  9. As much as we like to slag these venues, I'd rather play a place like that than a place where everyone sat at their tables sipping gins and tonics😉
  10. Same for me when I heard that Glenn Hughes was joining The Dead Daisies instead of Mendoza and Corabi. I can't stand his wailing
  11. We quite like Planet Rock but there are certain shows that annoy me. Danny Bowes always plays his own bands songs and it's the same every time "here's a song by Thunder, the band that what I is in". It drives me up the wall! I miss the Hairy Bikers. They had craic.
  12. Now that would have put the tin hat on it, or at least the cheesy bonnet 😉
  13. No problem, I feel the same about Dancing in the Dark, Money For Nothing and Road to Nowhere which were all ruined for me by video jukeboxes!
  14. Any girl who would do that in the middle of a busy dance floor wouldn't get mine anywhere near her I can tell you! Classy as feck!🤮
  15. I too am the singer as well as bass player. I have had so many occasions over the years where I have had a cold and my passive aggressive guitar playing mate would say oh, you will be fine and I have stupidly gone along with it and struggled. Sometimes you sing better with a cold right enough.
  16. We used to play a bar very similar in layout as this. (It's no longer running as a bar) The problems with getting a decent sound at both ends of the venue were manyfold. We used to only worry about the ones down the front who were dancing and paying attention right enough. I remember one really busy night there was a navy ship in and some of the boys were in. We were playing and I saw a guy getting a bj in the middle of the very crowded dance floor. I couldn't believe it and was slightly annoyed as they clearly weren't paying attention and that the band wasn't getting this sort of action.
  17. Is this bass driven enough for you? 😉
  18. Not wanting to sound patronising but have you heard this one?
  19. It's a figure of speech. The bass is very prominent in a lot of The Cure songs. Of course there are other instruments making up the tune. It would be pretty dull if there wasn't.
  20. Are you kidding? You honestly think this legendary song is wishy washy noise?
  21. I must confess to being a little disappointed as Simons bass was such a massive part of the cures sound. I mean bands can have bass players but a lot of the Cures music was bass driven. This was one of my favourite bass lines of the 80's Simple but bloody brilliant!
  22. One of my bugbears is tall people who stand at the front or when you pay for seats and people from the back stand in front of you.
  23. Years ago I crushed my ring finger on my fretting hand. It was very tender and had stitches. We had a gig booked and I said I can't do it. My ever so passive aggressive mate who was the guitarist said you will be fine. He thought nothing I was doing was complicated enough to warrant using four fingers. I played the gig against my better judgement and suffered terribly and had to simplify my parts so much it was untrue. I was embarrassed and humiliated.
  24. That would be great bud, thanks.
  25. Ive never heard this RB. Thanks for that.
