  1. Whether Blackmore was a knob or not is beside the point. What is a fact is that Lemmy told the best funny stories and anecdotes!
  2. It's all down to getting used to the nuances of the electric kit. You can get used to anything and it becomes normal.
  3. I've been known to yes. I also was known to strut and pose for the ladies don't you know. Later I would just smile suggestively.
  4. I thrive on low frequencies. When we bought our sound system we have these floor standers and we both commented that we didn't need a subwoofer as there was plenty of low end. Now we have had it for a few years I feel that a sub woofer would add to the sound. I want more bass mon!
  5. It wasn't classic rock when it came out though.
  6. I would say definitely heavy metal. Just because it isn't like the heavy metal of today. When I was growing up it was definitely in the heavy metal category as that was all I listened to back then!
  7. I saw a band a while back. The Carburetors playing in Hamburg. My mate who lives and plays there is mates with them so I got backstage and said to the rhythm guitarist , great set man but I was saddened that you smashed up a nice guitar? Did you not notice? He said, just before, I swapped it out for a cheap and nasty guitar.
  8. Excuse me! I'll have you know that I am an extremely attention seeking bass player!
  9. Then again, I don't think either would get chucked out of bed for eating toast!
  10. From what I read Blackmore is a divisive character who seems to be very hard to work with. Purple say themselves that they are not interested in rejoining him, they are perfectly happy as they are. He, in his narcissistic way said he was open to a reunion but it was quickly dismissed. I agree Perfect Strangers is really good.
  11. Bite guitars. Never heard of them. They look pretty decent. Has anyone had any experience with one?
  12. I had an Epi Thunderbird and again had no problem playing it. As do many professional bands.Yes it has a heavy headstock. Does it cause you problems? No.
  13. Poppycock I say, poppycock! I have never had any problem with balance on ANY of my 14 basses.
  14. I can't say much about the 60's pups but my Fender P and J have really powerful pick ups. I think the P is 2000's and the J may be 80's or 90's but I have never dated them. I really should.
  15. Again, as Dad said, it's down to taste.
  16. Sexy is what made me get into bands when I was really young. I wanted to emulate my heroes and be popular with girls. When I looked at guitar players I thought that's what I want. When I went to a school dance and the bands gear was set up was the first time I saw a bass in the flesh. I immediately fell in love. I'm sure it was a Fender copy but it just looked so cool. That was when I said I. want to play that. Sexy is what I wanted and I just thought the long neck and even longer head stock of Fenders and the Thunderbird looked sooo sexy!
  17. I don't think you can compare the Albert Hall with the Dog and Duck pub. The Albert Hall will attract people who like whatever music is being put on. They will pay in advance and come and take their SEATS which are provided. The dog and Duck puts on a poor choice of band and people start coming in, hear a couple of songs they don't like and go somewhere else. The proprietor of the Dog and Duck thinks that band stinks, I am not booking them again. OR, he has a great night with people singing and dancing along to the music and he goes right, what are you lads doing next Saturday?
  18. I've never liked headless guitars. I always think there's something missing plus the head is part of what makes guitars sexy. I like a guitar to look good. That's why I like Fenders and Thunderbirds
  19. We used to rehearse in my spare bedroom. I bought a cheap electronic kit for practice. Our drummer loved it and said I have to get one of these. They are ideal for rehearsal and when you go really top of the range they sound incredible. I think it's a case of getting used to them. I'm not a drummer but I am just going by what our drummer said. Edit- Some professional bands use them so they must be ok.
  20. I find every time I go into a music shop and they say would you like to try something? I always say NO, Im just looking. I have learned that over the years everything I know will just leave me as soon as I plug in that bass. I can't noodle impressively like some can so I need to know what I am playing. So my cringes moment is years ago when I went into a little booth to try a Ric. Great I thought, in here on my own I can give it laldy. No sooner had I started when a girl came in with a guitar and started playing totally impressive jazz shapes. Totally ruined my moment and left me handing the Ric back after two minutes.
  21. It's a reference from the "Singers who don't understand how music works" post about how we got into music to enjoy the thrill of a crowd enjoying themselves. Just a tongue in cheek addition.
  22. Why not compromise and buy a really good electronic kit? They sound so good. I know a drummer who uses an acoustic kit live but his bass drum pedal is an electronic one. He hides it behind an acoustic bass drum. His bass thud is awesome.
