  1. I have just stuck a set of Elixirs on one of my P basses and am not very excited about them. I love the Elixir guitar strings. They are super bright and last for ages but I find the bass strings a bit dull sounding.
  2. I can't believe there was anyone still there!
  3. Don't think I will be using this anytime soon
  4. I used to just stick my phone through the PA on random. Anything could come on.
  5. I have had the same experience but mine was caused by nickel strings. I had no idea that I was allergic to it and when we were playing a lot, I had broken skin which started off itchy and then when broken, bled Heavily. I used to play in extreme pain all the time. Once I changed to stainless I found immediate relief. I have always liked the brightness of rounds and the stainless were even better. I just can't get any to last more than two proper gigs.
  6. I can't get on with thin picks at all. I have to use a thick pick because of the heavy strings. I admit I don't use it for a lot as I am mostly a finger style player.
  7. Even noodling in the spare room I find that after a while the strings start to go dead. I wipe my hands and use cleanser all the time as well. Cheap stainless are the way to go. https://www.amazon.co.uk/WINJEE-Stainless-Strings-Guitar-Accessories/dp/B07WZS7WW2/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=stainless+steel+bass+strings&qid=1598528254&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExQUlTV0RETkFDWExXJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjEyNDIwMVpXOEY4REs1WjFQRyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTExMTE4QThNWDU0UVJOQ1RVJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
  8. I am of no help to you as I feel an overwhelming urge to change my strings after two gigs. I use rounds exclusively and as soon as that new zing has gone from the string I feel underwhelmed. I have listened to others who say oh, these strings last ages or these strings keep their newness for months. I have tried loads and none last long enough for me. It's probably lucky that we are not playing just now because it gets expensive.
  9. Yup, if you don't mic any other drums mic the kick drum at least. The other drums will cut through (in small venues) but the kick can get lost in the mix. When you hear the punch of the kick drum with the bass, it's heaven.
  10. I saw a band once in a venue where the drummer had a good quality acoustic kit ( I can't remember the name but it was one of the good ones) behind his kick drum he had an electronic kick drum pedal set up. This meant he got all the benefit of the acoustic drums, aggression, colour etc. but he had the superb dampened thud you get from an electronic kick. His drum sound was really good.
  11. Man, our rhythm guitarist insisted on buying himself a mic even although he was a dreadful singer. We used to turn his mic down. Once I heard such an off key note that I stopped singing and looked to see which one had sang it. No one admitted to hitting that dreadful backing singing but I am pretty sure it was him.
  12. It was a few years ago I saw it and it was a Roland and about £2000. I appreciate others are now following this route.
  13. Some of the more expensiver electronic kits can actually allow for different strengths of hit. If you hit harder the drum sounds louder. I think it was a Roland kit I was looking at and it was pricey but it just shows how technology is moving if you want perfection.
  14. I actually have a small electric kit in my spare room. It sounds fantastic and as you say you can turn it down. The best thing about it is the bass drum sound. No pillows needed to stuff down the back! I kept saying you should get one and he was on board but circumstances have meant that the band hasn't played for years unfortunately.
  15. The moment I had when I suddenly found myself playing one of the rolls at a fairly fast speed was amazing. Fair enough I was just repeating the roll over and over whilst holding one chord but it actually started to sound like fast Bluegrass. It was a definite Eureka moment and I am just cheesed off that I can't carry it on at the moment. How I am praying for the Universities to start up again!
  16. I was into REM way before they became popular. once they hit that period in the 90's when they were radio friendly I kinda went off them. It's funny how you take possession of bands and get cheesed off when they get too popular. The very song they need to make them is the one that puts some older fans off them.
  17. We had the exact opposite problem. The drummer was good but so loud he would make everyone else push their volume to be heard. The resulting cacophony "on stage" would be too loud. We kept saying we need a quiteter stage sound. That way we can control the FOH sound easier. It was always a problem.
  18. It definitely did and it's still hovering above my head 🤔
  19. No they were not. They were there for the guy's 40th. It was an out of town gig and no one had heard us before.
  20. We played a gig at a party in an old barn once. The electrics were shoddy and my Ampeg SVT kept cutting out. I was forced to go straight into the desk via a sans amp, which I luckily had in my bag. Trouble is, we didn't have any dedicated monitors. It was all backline and PA bleed. What an ordeal. I couldn't hear myself at all and hated the gig. Strangely we went down really well, even after the first half when my amp was cutting out. Drunk folk have no clue!
  21. No doubt it comes in instalments. Like one of those Hatchette paperworks build the whatever. Starts up issue one is £3.00, then goes up. Ends up costing an absolute fortune!
  22. Yup, it all smells of corruption. Poor Lola and it's becoming clearer that it is indeed Tony who died as that is the only explanation for no one knowing who shot who as Rico is the only one with the clout to be able to lean on the witnesses. We should have this case opened again. It doesn't matter how long has passed. The law is the law.
  23. Clearly the detectives leading the investigation were inept to the end. Everyone at the club must also have sworn a vow of silence or maybe they were all so out of it that they couldn't tell who was dead but in the cold light of day a body would have been obvious. Maybe they couldn't identify the body and no one claimed it. It's all just a bit of a mess. Lola lost her love Tony so either he was lying on the floor having left this mortal coil or he was languishing in a South American jail. Either way, he was out of the picture and took no further part in the tale. Rico just sounds like a trouble maker and if he was shot then got what he deserved. Not that I am condoning violent gun crime of course.
