  1. We used to say this to venues when they griped about the price. Try getting a tradesman out for 5 hours on a Saturday evening and see how much he charges!
  2. Seen them at the Reading festival in the 80's. They were incredibly cool and sounded magic!
  3. We played for free many times. Charity gigs or similar. Sometimes it was good to be playing for a good cause. We did a gig for a little girl years ago who was very ill. We dedicated our cover of love is all around to her. It was a special moment. Im afraid the poor wee mite died soon after.
  4. I find it interesting that so many people who are members of this forum, therefore bass players and musicians, don't listen to music.
  5. This is my Sandberg California. I think they make the best relics. When I first laid eyes on it I asked the guy who I bought it off if it was real. I never knew they could be faked as realistically. The attention to detail is incredible.
  6. My biggest regret was painting an old Status bass that had been with me through the 90's and early 2000's. I had gigged it over literally hundreds of gigs and it bore the scars of such a journey. Obviously it didn't age the same as old 60's or 70's basses as it had modern lacquer on it but it still looked very road worn. Now I can't get the paint off it and am so disappointed.
  7. I am always listening to music as I type on Basschat. It's on random all the time.
  8. Yeah, one place we used to sometimes leave the stuff there all week. There were people playing pool with this big pile of speakers and stuff. We were only a two piece back then so it was not too much stuff and we wouldn't leave the guitars but even so, it was risky when you think what could happen.
  9. It's scary when I think of the amount of times I left gear in the car overnight. When we were playing regularly, I often would pack the car after the gig and walk home as I would have had a few. If we were playing in a place that we played a lot, we would be allowed to leave the gear in a corner. Again, luckily we never had anything damaged or nicked. Pure luck I guess.
  10. I seen them at a festival back in the early 90's. They spent the whole time preaching politics and I was frightfully unimpressed!
  11. Music has always been my main passion. I listen to music every day probably more now than when I was younger as I have a better sound system. Friday night is our drink a few glasses of wine and do nothing but listen to music night. In the car my stereo is always on with my phone blue toothed and on random. I love hearing new bands and like new music as much as the bands I grew up with, so you music IS my life!
  12. When we first started out we were sh*t too but we used to make up for this by being totally over the top. Posing and wearing ridiculous outfits. Consequently we used to continually blow off the stage other bands that were better than us musically. It was uncanny. People could see we were enjoying ourselves so much that they couldn't help enjoying themselves in turn. We played easy songs that were good to jump around to. Fast forward to my most recent band and the rhythm guitarist was the worst shoe gazer, miserable stick in the mud that it was untrue. People used to tell him to smile all the time and some thought he was about to burst into tears. Try as we would he would never change.
  13. I am surprised no one has mentioned these
  14. I have always been a rocker at heart but certain songs from other genres really float my boat. I love reggae and as for dance, my era was trance. I adore this. I realise its not his tune but it just works!
  15. Indeed, I have seen me jump in a taxi and follow some piece of skirt out of town for miles and then walk home in the morning. The walk of shame for 5 miles! I couldn't imagine doing anything like that now.

  17. I did this with a P bass I had made from bits off of eBay. I was never very keen on it and hated the neck. I hardly ever played it. I stumbled on a box in the corner of my music room. It was a P neck that I had forgotten about. I changed it over and fitted all the hardware, stuck new strings on it and tried it. The action was like a mile high. I lowered the action. Still no use. That’s when I started on the truss rod. After a few sessions of winding it everything fell into place. The action is now perfect and the neck nice and straight. The bass has now taken on a whole new life. I love it now. It plays beautifully and sounds great. It has Seymour Duncan pick ups courtesy of our own KioGon. It has become my first choice bass to pick up and play now
  18. I feel you. I have 14 basses. I no longer play in a band and every year that goes by the likelihood of me playing live again gets further away. Yet I can’t bring myself to sell any of my basses. They all have sentimental value of some sort. Recently I contacted guitar guitar to ask about selling my K5 and my Cabronita. The offered were derisory. £250 and £200 respectively. I said to the guy I realise you are a business but these guitars are in mint condition So thanks but no thanks. So they stay with me to this day.
  19. I think it’s just a bit of fun and not meant to be taken literally.
  20. I have played so many gigs over the years that I have lost count I have not played in about 7 years because of work commitments. I still enjoy mucking about in the spare room and recording but I honestly think I wouldn’t have the nerve to play live now. It used to be a huge part of my life but I just feel so self conscious now. I think it’s because I haven’t done it for so long. It would be nice to have the opportunity right enough.
