You are lucky. I have GAS for other things apart from guitar gear. My GAS is terminal and can be very uncomfortable!

I very much doubt that Daft Punk could DEMAND anything from Nile Rodgers! -
On the face of it quite tempting but is this legit?

Has Brian May only ever used one guitar?

I think there are very few artists who have only ever used one guitar for all of their careers. As has been proven here, if you dig deep enough you will find evidence that they used a different guitar at some point. I mean who would ever only play one guitar? I think people who are known for using one type of guitar predominantly is more of what the title of the thread should be. -
If you are in a band and gigs are booked you will play as needed. If you find that you can't find time in between gigs to practice then some other reason is stopping you. If you don't play in a band (like me at the moment) and you can't find the time to play then either you are being swamped by a situation or you don't have the right mental attitude. If as dmccombe says, it's family that is taking up your time then enjoy it. You only get one chance at their growing up, so family time is hugely important. However, if its making you miserable that you are not playing then clearly you still have the desire to play but struggle to find time. My situation was different in that I just couldn't be bothered but a small change in circumstances and my love of playing returned. There isn't much to be honest, for a bass player to do without a band unless you explore other areas like deciding to learn new challenging songs or recording yourself so maybe you need to explore another tact. My problem now is that now that my desire to play has returned during lockdown I am being sent back to work and won't be able to play for a couple of months. I just hope that I am hungry for it when I get back.

I know a boy who has two nearly new kids and he is in three bands. How he does it I don't know!

Yeah, I never took anything from the op's post that said he was depressed or anything. Just couldn't be bothered. I gave my example of how I too got into a state where I just couldn't be bothered playing. The band had taken a long hiatus and the environment where we used to rehearse had turned into a messy store room. It just drained any desire for creativity that I had. The simple act of clearing the room brought it all back. It is purely my experience and if the op is depressed about playing perhaps he needs to look at other places for advice. The depression thread is a good "shoulder to cry on" as it were with some good advice.

I honestly think this IS your mental attitude. I have a spare bedroom which I use for storing all the musical instrumentation. we used to rehearse in there too. It has become the music room. Because of my job we can't rehearse or gig anymore (I get called away at short notice) The room became a store room and more and more things have found their way into it. It became a mess. Mrs Ubit's son moved back in with us as he took a year out from uni. and all his rubbish has also found its way into this room. Gradually my interest lessened and I stopped playing altogether. When he first went to uni. I cleared the room and made it back into a music room. Immediately my interest piqued and I was finding myself mucking about with the guitars more. I had somewhere to play so it made me want to play. Now he is back the room has started to become cluttered again but I have discovered Garage band and am recording which gives me another interest. So I think it's all down to attitude. If it's a fun situation you will find more of an interest but if you have no where to play or you have to unpack guitars, set up etc. then you will lose interest.

First rehearsal since lockdown and we were awful!!!

I have even found songs that I have played for years and know back to front have completely left me at the worst moment. Being the bass player and the singist I have to remember both parts! -

This is the reason I rarely take music shop workers up on their offer of "try anything you want" because I know I will completely forget my repertoire of impressive but not often used licks! 😉 -

When we were playing regularly I used to find that if we didn't rehearse a lot we would be very rusty. if I don't keep playing I forget stuff so easily. -
Actually when I was posted to India during the Raj, I used to frequently ride tigers to scare off any blasted locals who might spoil an otherwise merry, gin filled evening. probably explains why I walk with such a limp these days, what?

My GAS has stalled due to my job not allowing me to gig, so at the moment I am spare room noodling only.
-
Thats not plausible, it's downright frightening! They are big enough Richards without firearms!

Mate, I would love an old 60's Thunderbird. I have always liked them and the closest Ive got is an Epiphone one which was rubbish really.
-
I have one of these and the K5 on the neck doesn't bother me. You can hardly see the signature either. My problem with it is the string spacing is so tight being an Ibanez neck.
-
I have a Sandberg California and the relic job on it is faultless. When I first set eyes on it, I never knew about them and I was convinced it was a real relic.
-
I would love a real relic, aged instrument from the 60's but unfortunately for a man of my means I can't afford thousands of pounds, plus modern lacquers don't age in the same way as the old nitro. That is why I will have to live with relic'ed copies.
-
Yes but good copies are more or less the same as the original. If a company is true to the artist in question, they will use exactly the same hardware, neck profile, pickups etc as the original, so I think Geddy was meaning this "is" Jacos bass, as in it's exactly like the original. Geddy isn't stupid enough to think it's the original.
-
I could definitely live with that!

Same mate, I wouldn't want my team (who shall remain secret) on a guitar as it would attract unwanted attention and would spoil the intention. I said on another thread that it's like people who wear replica strips everywhere. I just don't like it. edit: It's most likely for the American market where they don't know the tribal rivalry that goes hand in hand with British football.

Jean Jaques Burnell and his black Precision bass too.
