  1. Yeah, I realise this but I don't want to play acoustically without effects as you can't put the same feeling in when you are not hearing the finished article. I suspect I will have a lot more mucking about with this before I master it's nuances.
  2. Im on Catalina on my good Mac but the old one will only go as far as Sierra. I don't think that's the problem though as I just downloaded the latest version of Garage band today.
  3. Certainly with my Ibanez which may be a poor example. I find I can't play freely as I do on the electrics as I am having to pluck so hard to hear that all natural playing goes out the window. As I say, once its amped up, it sounds nice and acousticy especially as I have furnished it with flats.
  4. I have an Ibanez acoustic bass and definitely you need to put it through an amp. An acoustic guitar will drown it out and two acoustic guitars and you might as well give up.
  5. Lots of feedback on the guitar amps as well. Gawd knows how to get to grips with this beast!
  6. Thanks mate. I did have another go and realise that although I had the USB plugged in, I had forgotten to push a tiny button that says tape USB to mix. When I prodded this I could hear what I had recorded with the amp and effects but when I was playing it was just clean guitar. At least I have sussed out how to get it to work. I will just have to muck about a bit more. Thanks for your help mate. Just checked. Both input and output are set to the desk. I can still record a clean guitar track and when I play it back it has the particular amp effect on it. I can't understand why I can't hear the effect for rehearsal as advertised.
  7. During this lockdown I have become increasingly bored with just noodling away with my guitars and basses. I decided that I wanted to try to record some ideas. I tried Audacity but after finding out that it would only allow two tracks I canned that. I have a Mac in the music room which is old and slow but I completely wiped it and took it back to factory settings. I thought I would use it just for Garage Band. I have a Peavey mixing desk which has a USB connection. I thought this would be ideal for connecting to the computer. So far I am getting nothing and I am at my wits end as to what I am doing wrong. I click add track and play through the mixer but can't hear any of the sampled effects or amps and my playing doesn't record. I know it must be something simple. I have noticed that I can only hear the recorded drum tracks if I unplug the USB to the desk from the Mac. Does anyone have any experience of using this kind of set up? I feel such an idiot because every tutorial I watch just says plug in and record and none make it clear. When I connect the USB I get a message saying audio device selected. When I unplug it I get a message saying chosen audio device unplugged. What am I doing wrong/not doing?
  8. Reminds me of the old Tommy Cooper joke,
  9. You are welcome mate. Talk about bunny boiler!
  10. I don't have any more contact cleaner in the house at the moment but I tried fast wiggling of the pots on the Aerodyne. I had to do it for ages for each pot but blow me, it has worked! The bass has for the first time in years, smooth clean sounding pots. Thanks guys!
  11. She was very intense. I mean who buys someone you have never met an expensive bass guitar? I was thinking this is out of my depth. I only wanted someone to chat to online. Now that the dust has long settled, I enjoy playing that bass. None of my band mates would believe me. They said I had bought it myself. I know it sounds too ridiculous to believe myself.
  12. The best deal I got was a good few years ago I got talking to an American woman online. She seemed nice enough but started getting a bit full on. I mentioned that I played bass and my dream bass was an American standard P bass. She only went and bought me one and sent it over. I was embarrassed as hell and offered to pay for it. She wouldn't hear of it. Then I got a message from her husband calling me for everything. I had no idea she was married! I cut off all contact after saying I will pay for the bass. Again she said not to. So now I have an American standard that was completely free and she most likely has a broken marriage 😕
  13. Bass isn't really the instrument to play loudly in a flat is it?
  14. Fair enough if you are drilling into a brick wall, Plasterboard fixings when holding up guitars are safe with the ones I mentioned. The metal plasterboard fixings into sound plasterboard are more than enough to hold up a guitar. As I I have said, mine have been up for YEARS with no problems and they get taken up and down regularly,
  15. Do you not like The Ramones mate? You've never mentioned it before.
  16. I wish someone would pay me 5 grand to stroke them with a broom. I would be all over that like a rash!
  17. I have an Aerodyne with the most annoying scratchy pots and I have tried contact cleaner to no avail. I'm at my wits end!
  18. Shucks mate, you are too kind. I feel it right enough! 👍
  19. I have a router so can cut away recesses in the body but cutting guitar shapes and especially making a neck would be beyond my current capabilities.
  20. First one taken when I was 21 and we did our demo in the studio. Second is with current lockdown hair and beard
  21. I have built two basses and a guitar. I just bought bits from eBay and never went as far as actually fabricating the neck and body. Just for a note, our very own KiOgon supplies electronics and pick ups and is a pleasure to deal with.
  22. Yeah, I am beginning to think this is the case here. On ALL my other guitars and basses the sweep from full bass to full treble is very noticeable but on the Les Paul bass I cannot hear any massive difference.
  23. Apologies for quoting from my answer rather than yours mate. Yes it does seem strange the way they label the ring with rhythm and treble. Someone was on something when they came up with that and they have kept it up. I do know the difference and rhythm refers to neck pick up etc. It's just I never knew that when on both, both volumes completely cut the sound. I assumed there was a problem. Thanks for all the help on this topic.
  24. I was only being hilarious mate. I buy clothes online too but socks I get from Tescos 😉
