  1. Thanks for that mate. That explains a lot. obviously I am used to "normal" tones and volumes on my other basses and guitars where turning down one doesn't affect the other pick up. I guess I never really understood the toggle switch.
  2. You bought socks on eBay? Where do you live? St Kilda?
  3. Well she is looking pretty good for a 61 year old. 60 in this vid!
  4. You don't even have to put it on your watch list. You click on anything and you will get emails asking if you are still interested or here are similar items that may interest you. It's getting more and more desperate.
  5. Yeah, it's a pretty shoddy money saver from Gibson having the same badge as the guitars. For all it would cost to have a separate one for the bass, or even better generalise them all to neck and bridge.
  6. I know but it is taken from the Les Paul guitar. The badge that goes round the toggle switch says rhythm and treble on it. I was using that as a guide. I realise that it's the bridge and neck pick ups. They use the same badge as what's on the guitars.
  7. Cmon mate, it's your opinion and lots of us realise that they were groundbreakers of their time.👍
  8. We've been here before mate and it's your opinion and it's wrong! 😉
  9. Wait a minute, he didn't want to ruin the guitars so he went for the bass? This man is clearly deluded and needs help! He comes from the dark side.
  10. Where did you find this Stubsy? I looked everywhere I could think of for Les Paul control info.
  11. Should I buy any three way rocker switch or do I need to get anything special? Just in case it comes and doesn't have the right amount of terminals.
  12. Yup, gonna have to order a new one. Hopefully once that's in I can concentrate on the nuances of the tone controls.
  13. I am no expert on overdubs but watching video of them playing live, it looks like they are all playing live.
  14. I got into Rush in '78 when I went down to the Friday market at dinner time from school and came back with 2112. I had heard of Rush and read about them in Sounds (the rock newspaper of the time) I was pretending to everyone that I new their stuff as I knew they were a rock band. When I got home and turned on the record player, I got a hell of a shock. I thought what the hell is this? Once it got going though that was me hooked. I retro bought the older albums after that and I think C.O.S. was last on my list. By this time I was a total fan and they could do no wrong so I like it and can still enjoy listening to the compositions less travelled. In the words of Taylor Hawkins right enough, I get why chicks tend to not listen to C.O.S. right enough.
  15. I think I will just get a new switch. It's no use that it won't stay on the neck pick up position on its own. Pretty annoying for a bass that costs a lot and hasn't been used that much.
  16. Ok mate, I understand that diagnostics are hard from afar but here is the pic as requested.
  17. Cheers Dad, I have used KiOgon a couple of times in the past and he has supplied superb electronics but I just can't understand how this bass after having never being gigged can just stop working. To be honest it may have been like this from new and I haven't noticed too much as the sound I am getting from it is pretty good, its just that I can't change it. When it is on both pick ups, if I turn down one volume, whether neck or bridge, the sound goes off completely. I would like to know what is wrong rather than just change everything. It may be a capacitor that is faulty. All the wiring is sound and secure. I know I need a new toggle switch but that doesn't explain the lack of tone control.
  18. I have a Gibson Les Paul bass that I got from my girlfriend for my birthday a few years back. It's a lovely red sunburst colour and feels just great. I have not gigged it and it just comes down from the wall every so often for a muck about. Thing is, I am just starting to think I am only getting one sound out of it. When I turn the tone knobs I can hear absolutely no difference. The selector switch is faulty. It will not stay in the rhythm mode and clicks back to the centre detent. It works on treble and centre and if I hold it, I can get the rhythm side to work.so its working just not staying on it's top detent. I get confused though. When I put it to rhythm (ie neck pick up) the volume works on both the treble and bass pick up controls and vice versa. I would have thought one would be cut. As I say both tone controls seem to do nothing. I can play and hear no tone change at all. I am beginning to think something is wrong as a bass of this quality should surely have a bigger range of sounds. I know I need to get the selector switch replaced but as I say, it works it just won't stay in the rhythm detent. It used to click back after a while but now won't stay in rhythm at all. Does anyone have any experience of these basses or similar Gibson basses?
  19. I bought an Epiphone Thunderbird from EBay a few years back. Id always fancied a T Bird and this seemed the way to do it. I hated it. It was under powered and didn't give me the Gibson growl at all. I punted it later. I think my GAS for a T Bird will only be assuaged by the real deal.
  20. Indeed. A few years ago I decided that I wanted to get a 5 string to see how I got on with it. I didn't want to spend too much as I had plenty of gigging basses to choose from. I bought a Squire and it is just a great guitar. It's active and has an awesome sound and build quality. I just love it although it does weigh a ton. Here it is although mine is Olympic white with no pickgaurd https://www.astrings.co.uk/squier-contemporary-5-string-active-jazz-bass-hh-v.html
  21. I have bought two basses from sellers on here and both have been fantastic basses and exactly as described.I have also bought basses online after doing lots of research. Again, all have been great. I have been given two as presents, which I was never going to moan about. I have built three. I have not bought a bass from a store since I was very much younger.
  22. Yeah, when you hear how Caress of Steel went down and the subsequent tour, its amazing that they were even allowed to bring out 2112, plus they were expressly told to come up with something commercial. They refused and the rest is history. I am a dyed in the wool Rush fan and love Caress of Steel. This is also why I was annoyed at another post elsewhere saying that they were over rated. A band that struggled for recognition for years and only recently got into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame.
  23. They never asked me to prove anything. It was you have to pay £200 to get the package end of story
