Trouble is, when you are in to playing other instruments, your GAS is expanded tenfold!

[/quote] I'm glad you said that Red. I was thinking the same thing Maybe it's because we have always found our own gigs, but if we are supposed to play and no one is there, we still play. One of the best gigs we ever did started off just us and the bar staff The show should always go on. Maybe someone would see you and you could get more gigs.

I probably spend an equal time playing guitar as bass although in the band, I am the bass player. I go for guitar lessons and find both instruments give pleasure depending on how I'm feeling.

Arm chamfer is very important right enough. It is a bit of a slab I will take this advice on board. I'm not exactly in a position to buy at the moment anyway, so lots of time to think on it.

I'm a finger player and commented to the boy in the shop that the cover was right over my sweet spot for fingering.....erm playing. He said most folks remove it, which I would obviously do myself anyway. Never tried it with a pick, but I think you could get this problem with any guitar if you have the pickups too high.

I agree about a mini tribute , but there's always the risk that lots of people don't like that particular band and would hate four in a row. You would have to gauge your audience

I was in guitar guitar in Glasgow the other day. The car was getting a service and I thought what better to waste the time than spending ages in a guitar shop. After a long time perusing, I decided to try out a couple. ( I generally avoid this because I find my mind goes blank and I can't remember fancy licks to impress anyone listening) I seen a blue Ric 4003 hanging and thought , I have never tried one. At least not for about 25 years. I was blown away. I've heard folks knock them, but this was a lovely bass. The super high gloss fingerboard was a bit disconcerting at first, but I think I could certainly get used to that. I am officially converted because I never liked the look of them, although grudgingly,the blue was the one colour I liked. I can now say I am definitely a fan. There is a nice range of sounds and the finish was lovely. Definite GAS !

We took a long break when my job stopped us being able to rehearse. We got together last week and I nearly cried when our guitarist suggested keeping some songs, like wagon wheel ( yuk) Funnily enough, he said let's not do brown eyed girl anymore. I was astounded as it was him that argued that we should do it as it " always goes down well" I want to play decent rock songs mixed with dancy trad stuff. I'm gonna have to put my foot down with a firm hand from now on !

We had a similar problem years ago. Our name happened to be the same as a traditional Scottish bands name. Some middle aged folks turned up at one of our gigs in a bar near Aberdeen one night. They were sorely disappointed, but when they complained to the bar staff, they thought on their feet and said we had been called that for ages and had supported many famous musos. We never had any problems locally right enough.

I agree, the cd approach is a waste of time. We have found however, a few videos on YouTube can help. If they want to look , they can. If they don't, so what? Our drummer is a delivery driver and he has got gigs by asking whilst on his rounds. Basically , you have to brass it and ask. If you are an unknown quantity, you will HAVE to play cheaper until they know what you are worth

Yes, I have an Aerodyne which has the strat. type socket. It's Japanese made but then again, I thought they all were.. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know enough about it. I also have an Ibanez K5 which has a similar type socket

Surely it depends on your socket. I have a couple of basses with a Strat type socket where angled just wouldn't do. Personally, I find angled plugs in the same way I find curly leads. Just wrong !

I liked the 70's cos I was a little kid and had lots of fun without any worries except whether the telly would go off and I would miss the Banana Splits! Now it's all money worries, relationship problems, work hassles blah blah blah. If I had a time machine, I would definitely go back but I might stop off for ages in the 90's cos that was even better!

Seen Father John Misty on Thursday night in Glasgow. I like him, but was prepared for a laid back semi boring night. Boy was I wrong. The band were brilliant and its was an excellent gig. Better live than on cd defo!

Not quite the same but, many moons ago I was going out with a girl who worked in a hotel. This allowed her to stay in any hotel in the chain free of charge. We drove to Edinburgh to see Marillion and checked into this nice posh hotel. The concierge asked us what we were there for and we told him the Marillion concert. He said, oh, they are staying here. You will probably see them in the bar later. We went to the gig and enjoyed it immensely. Afterwards, we came back and asked if the rest of our party could come in for a drink. They said yes and we all waked into the bar. Fish looked up and gave a look that said oh no, here comes more autograph hunters. In that moment, we decided to play it cool and I proudly laid my keys on the table and went to the bar. I even shouted my mate Pete what he wanted and Pete Trewavas , the bass player, turned and I said sorry pal, not you. We sat and had a few and completely ignored our idols because we didn't want to look like dicks !
