  1. Is there any reason for using them over the HX equivalents?
  2. How do the octave effects hold up to stand alone pedals? Really interested in the HX for it's versatility and a seemingly set and forget approach, but some of the EDM tunes we have in our set require a synth/dub sound that's integral, and if I went for the helix I'd want to replace my entire pedal set up with it. Currently use a T16 for the sub sounds, but at times I wish it had a 2 oct down to really get the floor shaking. Would the HX handle this? Similarly, what are it's filter and synth capabilities like? I've been wanting to integrate a vocal style filter/synth, like the new dirty robot pedal does; as well as more traditional squelchy envelope filter fx. Would the HX have this covered too?
  3. Update: I opted for the super brights as they were £16 on amazon... One gig in, and the difference between these and the D'Addario XL's is like night and day... so punchy sounding with great smooth texture and great low tension. I'll see what longevity is like, but for the money they seem an absolute steal!
  4. Thanks for all of the responses! I'm considering the cheap Caline5 which shows as around £25 on Amazon... In truth, the Rockboard LT will likely still be fine, but I'd rather have something plugged into the mains for peace of mind. Eventually I'll be upgrading my board to accommodate an envelope filter and maybe a spectra comp, so the Cioks offerings might get a look in when extra pedals are in place
  5. Hi All! Looking to tap into the fountain of knowledge again! Currently running a pedal train nano+ with 4 pedals on and a rockboard LT rechargable power supply and daisy chain... Runs fine, never had any issues, but since adding a Source audio Bass OFD the power pack is draining much quicker than when it was all analogue (I expect this is the design of the pedal). This has knocked my confidence in the rechargable supply, and it takes an age to charge! I'd ideally like something to fit under the board, but don't want to spend the earth. Are the MXR's T-Rex's and Voodoo Labs honestly worth the extra wonga as opposed to the Joyo's and amazon specials on offer? As long as it lights up it's good, right?!
  6. Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone! Turns out Polar have suddenly come up good! I got in touch with a guy called jack who identified the part and it'll be here in 2-3 days which schematics if needed Only came to £7 incl VAT and shipping so not bad! Just hoping this fixes it. Still interested in this jump lead in the FX loop though! Would that have any bearing on getting a bit more growl out of the amp? With the crazy amounts of power in this head its difficult to run it hot to bring the GK growl out
  7. I had it in with a good well known local tech last week, but he suggested that he was unable to get the specific pot
  8. Hi! So I purchased a second hand Gallien Krueger 1001Rb-II after realising class D was not for me... and after taking it out for it's first gig realised that, one of the pots was incredibly scratchy. Half a tin of Deoxit later and the scratchiness is gone, but there are some serious loud pops that make the speakers jump when the dial is turned. Anyone have any idea where I can get a replacement knob? All roads seemed to lead to polar, who haven't been much help thus far... Thanks
  9. I've been looking at the pure blues in honesty! I've seen a bit more love for the super brights online though, do you have any comparative experience with both? These are what I'm currently using, I've found they've 'textured' a fair bit and almost completely deadened (if that's a word?). I'm currently using 40-95s, it's always been my preferred gauge. If I can get the same sort of tension from a heavier gauge (as jposega suggested) then I'm willing to give it a go
  10. Thanks for the suggestions, I've had a spy at those thomastiks strings, nearly died when I saw the price! Maybe an xmas present from the mrs, and may try some dunlops in the meantime...
  11. Hi Folks! Looking to tap into the wealth of knowledge available here... For the 16 years I've been playing, I've yet to find a string that's MY string... I've flitted between all of the big brands, coateds, nickels, S/S etc and I've got a good idea of the qualities I'm looking for; I just need them all in the same string! Ideally, what I'm looking for is: Really low tension medium gauge: 40-95 Bright, growly quality to the sound - more aggressive As smooth as possible under the finger - Currently using D'Addario Nickels and that's the sort of texture I'd like. Does anyone know of anything that would fit the bill? Thanks!
  12. Purchased new in Nov 2016, selling as gone back to GK heads... Loads of info on these online, more feature packed than a feature packed thing, looks the business, mega light and the side handle is more convenient than you'd expect. Semi Para EQ, tweeter tone, tube tone overdrive, brilliant compressor, 3 memory banks, built in tuner, speakerless operation with headphones out and aux in. Some light scratching on top but only minor. Had front buttons replaced for a more robust button under warranty in Jan 2017. Gig bag included and may even have the box if you like boxes No trades unfortunately. Local collection preferred, may drop off if local or for fuel if less local Can look at shipping at buyers expense
  13. What is the tension like compared to the D'Addario Nickels? Love the feel and tension of those strings, but had a dead E string after 1 gig, the A is on it's way out 3 gigs in and the tuning stability has taken a nose dive
  14. In honesty I think the practice space is part of the problem, we practice in a pubs function room and they've just put a big pool table in the middle of the room so all the gear needs to go around the table etc etc, not the ideal emulation of a stage set up... Gigged Saturday night after having a muck on with the settings, and it was better... still not great, but I could live with it. I'm wondering if I need to experiment more with the interaction between the gain, spectrecomp and tubetone. EQ wise I've got quite a bit boosted (I've adjusted the para frequencies, but they're not too far from the centre tone): Bass - 2 o clock Low mid - 1 o Clock High Mid - 2 o clock Treble - between 12-1 o clock Spectre comp is around 11 Tube tone around 10 I suspect the inherent mid scoop of the PJ pickups might be at fault, hence boosting the mids so much, but through headphones at least, when the mids are dialled back in on the amp it keeps the punchy pick up voicing without sounding overly thin. I've thought about replacing the pre-amp in the bass, but not sure how much this effects the voice of the instrument as opposed to EQ versatility.
  15. How do! Potential stupidity incoming unfortunately but my head is destroyed by this I'm using a TC Electronic RH750, never had a problem with it (but never loved it) until I purchased a Sandberg California VT4 II w/Delano PJ pups (admittedly I have a problem with rushing into gear). Since then I just can't get a tone I'm happy with, but lack of funds means I'm stuck with it for the forseeable This being said, I've spent loads of time with the amp and bass at home through some Sony MDR 7506 head phones, and through EQing etc manage to get a great punchy cutting tone. I save the settings, head to rehearsal and plug into my Barefaced BTII, and that tone I've grafted at suddenly sounds like a muddled mess and as soon as you go anywhere near the 8th fret there's just nothing. Obviously I don't expect the headphones tone to translate to the cab 100% and knew it'd need to be tweaked, but should it really be THAT different?! I'm struggling to see where I'm going wrong. Surely I should be able to get a great punchy sound with this gear? All advice appreciated
  16. I bought one of those new years ago for £365, couple of surprising quality issue with loose pots and wobbly input that wouldn't tighten... That tone though! I've never been as satisfied with a tone before or since that bass...
  17. I've always thought of them as massive tone suckers... Every time I've tried them whether it be in store or rehearsal rooms, I've always found that no matter how I've EQ'd or what pedals run in front of it, they've always made everything sound 'smooth'. I almost didn't buy a EBMM Sterling5 because of trying through an ashdown amp. Took it suspecting the amp was the problem, plugged into my TC head and there was the tone!
  18. Hi Bassbloke, there's nothing in my inbox unfortunately.
  19. Hi, Yeah I could do mate, only 20 mins or so away.
