1.
+1 on the transferrence of technique from Shamizen playing.

I spotted this vid last week while hunting for gospel players on youtube. I wouldn't be inclined to criticise it from a Western perspective any more than I'd be inclined to criticise any other world music. Or at least if I was going to criticise it then I'd at least take the time to discover what the point of the music was. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of that style of playing is about the space created between the notes and the textural effects created rather than the notes themselves.

Still not to my personal taste but I've heard a LOT worse from Western avant garde players.
...first time i've done this but here you go : +1 sums up my feelings perfectly.

Bizarre...i've actually got a couple of albums he's played on; Topper Headon: Waking Up and the Mary coughlan one mentioned...well i never!

  3.
Was just wondering outa curiosity...what do you gain from having a fretless bass? Or a headless? (Apart from looking good)

Another one....how loud can acousto-electrics go?

A third random question!...How does the sounds change as the neck scale increases/decreases?

This is mainly because I'm wanting to get another bass somewhen soon...when money appears....and wanted it to be 'different'

Is it true that red basses make you play faster?

    And finaly...how are you today?
1) MUCHHHHH less fret wear. Less chance of a head ding.

    2)Not very

    3) Short scale has no discernible difference from long or medium....which is why i sold my shortscale and bought another full scale.

    4) Yes...so fast that you need a special permit to own one.

    5) Well pissed off....just got back to work after a 1 week paid suspension. hope you're good though...unless you work in the Employee Relations Dept. of my company in which case i hope you rot in hell along with your family, pets and friends.

  4. This thread should be titled: Basschat Users...will they ever learn?

If this shops is a such a bunch of sh*te...and it seems to me that it is...then why bother going there? Seems like some of you guys go in there to see if there's anything that you can moan about...vote with your feet and stay away....they guys running it couldn't care less what you think so why bother?

  5.
Did you buy anything from the stratosphere my friend? The ebay fender body and neck dealer?
I bought a P Bass body and some pickguards from them the other week, thinking about buying a neck from there too...no problems until Parcelfarce got their hand on goods :)

  6.
Hi, could anyone tell me if there is a difference in size for Japanese p bass pickguards or will a standard american one fit. Also are the 62 reissue pickguards a different size to standard USA? Oh and finally does anyone know a place that sells good cheap pickguards.

    Sean
I have a CIJ P bass and an American built Highway 1 and the holes are in the same place so you should be ok....an American Standard guard fits the Highway 1. I bought mines from Stratosphere on Ebay got them for around £20 each inc post...a parchment one from an american standard and red tortoise shell one from a 62 RI.

  7. Seen this on da 'bay....does anyone think he has a chance in selling this for the price asked?

Ok, they've stuck some Barts and a Badass on it but at the end of the day it's still a MIM....polishing a turd jumps to mind....though i suppose for all i know it could be the player of the century....but do they really think that anyone is gonna buy that for £500?MIM P

  8. When i bought my new Fiesta Red P body from Stratosphere on the 'bay it took around 4 days for it to arrive in the UK when sent through the USPS. When it was posted i was sent an email from USPS saying the sender had sent the item....apparently you can't track USPS, the tracking number only tells you when and where the item was posted.

Once the item landed in the UK it went on to Parcelfarce who the sent me a bill for customs which i promptly paid on line and asked for the item to be delivered next day....which of course never happened....first request was ignored and a Parcelfarce new start apparently never had time to deliver it the second time :) Ended up a guy working for Parcelfarce dropped it off on the way home from work.

To sum up....I HATE COURIERS...bunch of mouthbreathing escapees from a monkey factory. They should all be sent to the moon....thought they'd probably get lost on the way.

I would be a bit concerned in these circumstances.

  9. # " I took it out of the packaging and not only was it beautiful to look at, but was perfectly in tune!!! It is the best resin back semi accoustic I have ever played and I'm looking forward to many happy hours with this baby. In short I love it. Keep producing your great guitars." - Maureen, South

....well after this and the OP's glowing report i just couldn't resist it and bought not only a bass but also the company!!! don't you just love unsolicited advertising? :)

  10.
So, I love the look of these and could quite fancy one but can only find sellers online... Its a lot of money to take a punt without playing especally when guitarist friends of mine who play Gretsches tell me build quality can be very hit and miss...

So, anyone own one? or even played one? Whats the verdict??

What about the epiphone jack cassady hollow body? any thoughts on this?? Is it a good substitute for the early 60's EB2 which i'll never be able to afford?? :)

Thanks in advance for you help!
I've just swapped my Gretsch Thunderjet but i can say that the build quality of the Professional Series basses seems to be very high in my experience. I have heard that the lower budget models quality can be a bit hit and miss however. I still have an Ibanez AGB200 holowbody and i love the tones that can be got from it, perhaps you should try something cheap like this or the Casady...maybe even the Epiphone allen woody.

  11.
Every time I see this bass I want it more. I'd love to take it off your hands, it's right up my street, but alas......................................I'm skint.

Someone will get a very very nice bass here.

Never played a short scale bass, how does it feel compared to medium scales basses?
Obviously the main thing that stands out is how quick you can move up and down the neck....especially with flats on. It doesn't feel cramped to me either. Soundwise it'll give most med. scale instruments a run for their money when it comes to a deep, but articulate when required, sound.
