There appears to be a glut of these for sale on eBay @ approx £475; however they are from the States. I realise you then need to factor in shipping and import taxes/duty but are they easy enough to convert over from 120v?
The TC Electronic site claims that they use an international-ready power supply
The ultimate in convenience for the traveling musician. The built-in power supply operates from 90 to 240 Volts, making life a lot easier for anyone on the road as there’s no complicated fuse changing – just plug and play!
I must confess to owning a couple of Monster Bass cables. I don't buy the claim that they use construction techniques to make them specifically better/suited for bass, but I do buy the fact that they come with a lifetime guarantee.

Lovely clean defined sound there, and it certainly does groove!

Just had to look at these photos again and it's still a stunning build! Dood's Doodle is a set neck, but it's a very deep pocket that goes at least as far as the bridge pickup so it's not far off being a thru-neck! My Singlecut build is a set neck but the pocket isn't nearly as deep as the one on Dood's bass - that wasn't a design decision on my part, just appears to be the way that Jon is building it.

I picked up a Tanglewood unlined fretless off of Ebay for under £100 just to give it a go and cure any fear of fretless. After a few hours of practice at home I took it along to a band rehearsal and was fine with it. As much fun as it was I decided that fretted was best for the stuff I was playing. Will definitely treat myself to a quality fretless one day.

Anyone have experience of a separate practice space?

I've found that most rehearsal studios have some kind of lock-up facilities for storing gear, but I've never used them as I've only rehearsed once a week and all my gear fits in my car no problem. I believe that the storage cost is reasonably low (not free!) and you should add the cost of insuring the gear on top for your own peace of mind. Although you should get access to your gear whenever you want, you'll be limited to available rehearsal slots with the studio if you actually want to use it on site. At the end of the day if you're after some kind of service or facility you're going to have to pay for it. Sounds like you've got a nice little agreement set up between you and your friend. -
Spoke to Jon Saturday morning. He was very apologetic about the build taking as long as it has. The bass intonates fine and Jon says that he only has about a week of work left on it. I've let him know that I'll be travelling up North to see my brother in Middlesborough at the end of March and it would be nice if I could pick my bass up then. He said that it should be ready and settled by then.
Any news on yours mate?...
Just left Jon an answer-phone message. Will try calling again tomorrow.

I'm not miffed in the slightest. As I've said before a long build makes it so much easier to pay the balance in instalments. Given that the price of the bass is fixed at the start of the build, Jon's hourly rate must be about 0.001p per hour
I believe Ant is expecting his bass in a couple of weeks. It seems those that shout loudest at Shuker get their basses finished first.
23+ months. That is epic! By that calculation I can expect mine to be finished by Christmas.

An SR900 was my workhorse bass for my previous covers band and it performed brilliantly. Woodwork was spot on even if the electrics looked a little scary. When I bought it I couldn't believe that specification was being sold at such a low price. Only sold it on as I was between bands and the bass really screamed to be gigging.

Sat on my computer stool in front on my computer. I can play through a Zoom H4 connected to my PC but it turns into a mess of wires. Instead I burn all the songs from my PC to a CD and use them in the Tascam BT-CD1 I have next to my PC through headphones, or have the Tascam plugged into the MP3 input of my Line 6 110 Studio if I want to make a bit of noise.

What's the correct collective word for four Luthiers?

A Fettling of Luthiers? -
I'm a bit of a techie gear geek, but I enjoy playing too. I have recently redressed the balance between pining for the latest gadget and actually practicing with my current gear.

Bass. If the ultimatum is put on the table then she obviously isn't concerned with my own happiness.
-
If I had that collection I just wouldn't be able to decide what to play first. They are all works of art!

That's nearly as lurid as one of Waynepunkdude's custom paint jobs You're not going to be able to shy into the back of the stage when playing that one. Looking fab already.

Best time to announce leaving a band...
peted replied to Stylon Pilson's topic in General Discussion
Option 1. Phone them all. Or if you're not particularly tight with the rest of the band then just phone the band leader and let him/her inform the rest of the band. -
I've found with ER20s that if you start using them straight away at your own rehearsals then you will really struggle. Your best bet is to stand in the audience at other gigs with them on to start with as the pressure is off you to play while listening at the same time and you're less likely to pull them out in frustration. I found that it took me at least a few weeks of wearing them for me to get used to the sound and for my brain to adjust. Love wearing them now and everything sounds like a painful loud mush without them in. Result!

My active Warwick gets plugged into the passive input of my Hartke 3500 as the output from the bass is quite low for an active bass.
-
Over years my bass has slowly migrated from dangling down by my knees to just below my rib-cage. That's been over the space of years, can't say there's any movement during any single gig!
-
Very nice indeed. I bet you can't wait!

Had a set of DR Black Beauties on my Warwick and they were the best strings I've ever tried for sound and feel, but then they are also the most expensive strings I've tried! They do last a long time but finding £30-40 for a 4 string set I couldn't justify when Warwick Red Label strings can be found for £9 a set and I can get just as much wear if not more from 3 sets. I find that if I wipe my strings down with a microfiber cloth after each play then my strings last for months before the crud builds up enough to make them sound dull and lifeless.
Have you thought of the Tascam MP-BT1 "Bass Trainer" I have one and find it indispensable. Almost totally silent practicing, brilliant!
+2 I have the CD version but would replace it with the mp3 version the minute it breaks. Invaluable tool for practice. When I like to make a little bit of noise at home though I have a Line6 Lowdown Studio. I plug the Tascam into the aux/mp3 input of the Line6 to play along to CDs.

TC Research & Development have really been putting the hours in! Any chance of building this into the Rebelhead 450s built-in tuner?
