A bit +1 for the Line6 Studio 110 here as I have one as a practice amp. I A/B compared it against a Roland Cube in the shop when I bought it and through the Line6 sounded more 'natural', whereas the Roland models came across to me as a bit of a 'characateur' of what they meant to sound like. The Line6 is very pokey for 75 Watts and I've used it as a rehearsal amp with very well behaved drummers, and have gigged with it a couple of times DI'd into a big PA. The Roland Cube isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination but it's well worth comparing the two to see what sound you like the best.

That is gorgeous. Congratulations.
It's been interesting to note that there haven't been any "wow, just get one , no other bridge comes close" responses.
I have a Badass II on my Precision. It sustains better and appears to have better harmonic content than the bent piece of tin that was on there before. I wouldn't call that much of an accolade though. I think their main popularity stems from the fact that anything is better than Fender stock bridges, and the screw holes are designed to line up perfectly so you don't have to go and drill holes in your precious bass. I much prefer the two-piece bridge on my Warwick.

I was playing bass when I met my missus so she knows what to expect. She's not a musician herself and we don't share the same taste in music, but I like that. I tend to find that she has a bit of a moan when the music thing starts to shift into a new gear e.g. I've taken a bit of a break since our first son was born just over a year ago, but now I'm going back to weekly rehearsals with one band and the odd rehearsal with another. She has obviously voiced her dissatisfaction, but that's only to be expected. She doesn't mean that she wants me to stop playing forever, just acknowledge the fact that if I spend more time with my bass then I'm going to have to make sure the time I spend with her increases in quality (i.e. spending more money on her! ). She'll never actually say what she means - so "I don't like the fact that you're now out of the house every week with your band" actually interprets as "I don't like the fact that you don't take me out somewhere expensive every week".

Currently using ER20s and loving them, but I am planning on getting some moulded plugs made up for a Christmas present to myself. One question though as the filters only come as ER15 or ER25 - which ones do I go for? I really like the 20 dB reduction of my current plugs and I don't want my tinnitus getting any worse if 15 dB is too little, but will 25 dB be too much? The bands I'm in at the moment are remarkably well behaved, but I'd like to get back into playing metal again sometime in the future and I know that I'll be thankful for the 25 dB reduction. Does anyone have any trouble playing with a well behaved band using ER25s?
Nah don't worry about it fella! You can always go out and buy a Fender Jazz, any time you like. The custom bass, YOUR custom bass, is definitely worth waiting for and go for the side LED's!!!
+1 my bass has taken quite a while to complete as it's quite special and has at least one Shuker first. I believe he can still knock out Precision and Jazz style bases in a couple of months. I'm sure for every Shuker seen finished on BassChat there are at least a dozen that you don't see as the customer isn't a BassChatter.
Just gave Jon a cheeky phone call to see how things are coming along and hes just broke it to me that hes lacquering the bass and it should be done in 3 weeks!!!!!.... im a tad excited
Remember that those are 3 'luthier weeks' ;p . I had pictures of my bass glossed and lacquered on the 24th August with a mention that he still had to flatten back the lacquer, bolt it all together, dress the frets and let it settle. I haven't had any message yet to say it's ready to be picked up, but I don't want to rush him as I'm happy he won't release it until it's perfect.

That looks gorgeous already. Can't wait to see the finished article. Thursday, you say? I'll look forward to some photos by the weekend please

Looked like it was an awesome time to be had. Really enjoyed last year and was gutted when I couldn't make this one at the last minute.

My littl'un is still ill and my missus is going to need some time off looking after him this weekend. Sorry to let you guys down. Hope you have a great Bass Bash! Remember to take plenty of photos and videos!

What a great motivational post! I've just quit a band who have lacked any kind of direction or steady line-up in the last 12 months and have had couple of successful auditions for bands this week. I'd love to find out that these bands get me further dep gigs like you've mentioned. What a result!

I've played a Corvette and Fortress and they were very well built and sounded great. If you're thinking of buying a new Rockbass Corvette, then you might also want to look out for a second-hand Warwick Corvette as the prices tend to be similar and you'll get much more bass for your money.

Get legal advice. The police won't treat this as theft because you had an agreement of sale and therefore won't get involved. First port of call will probably having a quick work with the Citizens Advice Bureau http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/

What about spending money on a proper flight-case for your Shuker? Something which can be locked and doesn't look like an easy steal.
-
You're a picky nutcase, yes I think as long as there's nothing stopping my expensive basses from being fit-for-purpose then anything cosmetically wrong with it is my own fault for not spotting it before I handed over my money in the store. It's going to get plenty of blemishes with use over the years so I wouldn't worry too much. Instruments are there to be played, not polished.

Go for a wee, get a pint from the bar, remember to smile and look at the audience.

I started with two (index, middle) when I first started having lessons. Then moved to using three (index, middle, ring) when I found myself between bands with a lot of time to practice my technique. I don't think it necessarily meant that I could play faster, but matching the same speed felt like a lot less effort. Only pit-fall is that I find myself playing triplets if I'm noodling or composing my own stuff as it feels natural when using 3 fingers. I do alternate subconsciously between 2 and 3 fingers.
-
Wow that is gorgeous. Have you had a chance to try it in a band setting, or recorded with it yet?
-
I voted 'I'd like to' because I understand the mechanics of the technique, but can't seem to get my head around the timings involved in the specific style of slapping that I like the most. I think the technique is so difficult to apply musically that I haven't given it any priority when developing my playing.
I was in at Mr Shuker's place a couple of weeks ago when I was on holiday in the Peaks - that fan fret bass is stunning, really stood out among the others I saw. Mrs Doc B thought it was rather beautiful too. I'm finalising the spec of my own Shuker bass after Mrs DB suggested getting 'the bass I've always wanted'. Shuker's Uberhorn fretless is a stunning piece of work, along with the black single cut 5 string with the quilt maple top that are in the 'Stock Basses' section of his site.
Thanks for the compliments! I'm getting very excited indeed knowing that my bass is so close to completion. Funnily enough this is also a bass I agreed with my missus to be 'the bass I've always wanted' I really hope that I can collect it in person when it's finished. Not just to thank Jon personally and shake his hand, but also to have a go on that Uberhorn fretless - my eyes popped out of my head when I first saw it on his website. Gorgeous and a brilliant idea, even though I don't play fretless!

I've done my own setups a couple of times using a combination of the Gary Willis link above and the Warwick User Manual which came with my bass. My basses do seem to play a little better for it. If I thought there was some drastic tweaking needed to get a bass in the right shape then I might still be tempted to pay someone else to do it.

It's about time some more pictures of this bass turned up. Might I suggest some photos in the Shuker Mega-thread in the Gear Porn section?
Hey Pete, any news on this one?
No news since the last lot of photos, though I'm guessing that it's probably very close to being finished. I reckon that the end of October shouldn't be too unrealistic for a collection date (I'm still not pushing Jon to set a finish date).
-
Why buy an expensive bass? I'd buy an expensive bass if it happened to be the best bass I had played, which my Warwick is, so I bought it. Simple.
I recently picked this 95 bolt on sixer up & now all my other basses including my smith are now redundant. Walnut body & wenge neck
That is gorgeous. For quite a while I had serious GAS for trading up my great sounding Thumb BO 4 for a Thumb BO 6 for more of the same.
