I rate my Tascam Bass Trainer as an essential piece of kit for me. The MP3 version looks like it would be quite portable (i've got the CD one and it fits in the front pocket of the bass gig bag, no problems). Umm. O.K. I'm not really into this style of 'lead bass' so it doesn't float my boat. He is enjoying himself which is good.

I had GAS for the WTX260 but my attention turned to the TC Electronics Rebelhead 450 when it was released. Now there's a WTX500 I think I might have to try this before I set my heart on the Rebelhead!

August 2007 I got a popular Sheffield-based luthier to route an additional MM pickup into my Precision for £45 (I supplied hardware and it was part of other work at the time). I don't think the price the Gallery has quoted you is too bad with London weighting.
I saw that bass in the flesh last week. Has anyone seen the black singlecut it lives next to? All I could say was....WOW!
Would that be one with fanned frets? Last I heard my bass was waiting to be sprayed black.

Holy Crap! That's AMAZING! Looks like a Ritter bass. I've never seen that one before.
I've been offered endorsements yes, one fell through with my old band (Trace Elliot) and the other more recent one just didnt seem worth it (TC Electronics) - I was offered 30% off the RRP, Which ended up being about a tenner less than the thomann price! heh.
A tenner off the thomann price?!? I'd have taken it!

Beautiful. The top and back look so creamy.

Warwick have changed the shape of their standard neck this year
peted replied to peted's topic in Bass Guitars
Ooh, I forgot about the Warwick Rockbasses. If I remember correctly the necks use the same dimensions as the German Warwicks. I wonder if they Rockbasses will also be going from 'U' to 'C' to match??? I'll pop Warwick an email asking... -
That must shift some air! I love my Hartke HA3500
Bit of a shame IMO. I actually really like the fatter "U" shape. I suspect I'm in a minority though.
+1. I love the chunkiness of my 4 string neck. My custom Shuker is getting a neck profile with the U shape and Warwick dimensions. -
BASSES: I'm happy with what I've got now, so, Warwick Thumb BO 4 and my impending Shuker Custom AMPS: Warwick Jonas Hellborg CABS: Warwick Jonas Hellborg Money would have to be absolutely no object to get that backline!

Warwick have changed the shape of their standard neck this year
peted posted a topic in Bass Guitars
For those that don't like the fat 'baseball bat' style neck which Warwicks have been sporting for quite a while now, it seems that they are changing the standard neck dimensions on their basses from this year onwards. I just got the latest Warwick Newsletter with the below:
The first Warwick basses had a flat neck profile that is now almost legendary, but that was given up in favour of a fatter profile that guaranteed more stability. For a long time the U-shape was standard on Warwick basses. New manufacturing technologies (such as slimmer truss rods and an enhanced measurement of humidity levels of neck woods) enabled Warwick to return to flatter neck profiles (somewhere between the legendary slim neck and the present U-profile) which were available via the custom shop only. This year the flat C-shape became the new standard. However, the U-shape is still available as a custom shop option under the name “fat neck”.
Therefore going from: to: -
I had 4 Hercules wall hangers in the small box room we had in Norwich. Since moving back down to Essex last year I've not been assigned any space to hang my basses as the small room now has a baby in it.

I've gigged my Line6 Studio 75 Watt 1x10" in a small pub with no PA support and won't be doing that again any time soon! Used the same combo with PA support and it was fine. My first gigging amp was a Crate 80 Watt 1x15". I think the 80 Watt rating must have been PMPO rather than RMS because it would really break up if I tried to compete with the guitar amps (both 100 Watt Marshall/Fender combos).
I'll second the Line6 Studio 110. Great wee amp. Not a very loud 75 watts, but what do you really expect from a 12" cube with 1 10" speaker! I gig with mine DI'd into the band PA too.
I'll third the Line6 Studio 110. It's a great little amp which you can just plug and play once you've set the amp models to your liking. I've used mine as backline DI'd into the PA a couple of times and it does surprisingly well (I'd use it as a backup). Does a great Ampeg impression.

I have to fight the temptation to start by picking up my bass first - especially when I'm unfamiliar with the track. What seems to be most productive is to really listen to the track as background music while going about your daily business which makes me far more productive when I do actually sit down with the music and my bass. I burn the tracks to a CD and put it in my car stereo and on my mp3 player when I'm walking to work. The, when I've heard each track a good dozen-or-so times and It's worked its way into my subconsious I put that CD in my Tascam Bass Trainer and actually pick up a bass to work it out. Far more productive as I'm not trying to work out the notes at the same time as the arrangement. I've also found that If I write down the notes and arrangement that I rely too much on that sheet and have trouble committing it to memory. Might be different for others though.
it does seem that the chaps who have the longest waits are the ones getting loads of pictures sent through for build diaries.
Guilty
-
From my experience so far - you can expect a long wait Jon seems like a nice enough chap to deal wiith. To me he seems absolutely snowed under with orders but has been prompt at replying to my nagging emails There doesn't seem to be any feature he's afraid to try and produce. I've got him making a multi-scale bass and that doesn't seem to have fazed him in the slightest. Very reasonable prices generally. I asked for 2 quotes, one with a solid colour finish and another with fancy wood veneers, and was quite surprised how much more the fancy woods were. I'd recommend you contact him to throw some of your ideas out there and build up a spec for a quote - that costs nothing!
some kind of 'set up' workshop/demo is always useful
+1 I thought the guy who came along to talk about set ups last year was great (apoligies that I've forgotten his name). Can we get him in again?
-
Update from Jon - he's hoping to get the black sprayed this week if he can find a day when they aren't sanding. He's not sure that the 32" C string will hold adequate tension but intends to try a .035" string to see how it feels. Also feels there might be a problem with difference in volume between the B and C strings due to difference in mass, but I reckon that this can be negated by having the pickups closer to the skinny strings.

That is absolutely gorgeous. I'm 10 months into my Shuker Singlecut build and seeing these pics hasn't made the wait any easier You must be one incredibly happy bassist.
