Esperanza spalding. What a player, What a performer
RickyV replied to KingPrawn's topic in General Discussion
I'm with Bubinga on this one. I much prefer to see her as an artist in the more traditional band environment. Such a beautiful voice and great bass player. Her latest more theatrical stuff, I dont know, something just jars a bit for me. Now I like theatre including musical theatre but here, with her singing, playing and 'acting' at the same time, it is too much going on for me. I want to listen to her sing and I want to watch her play, her technique etc. but with all the moving about as well, I cant concentrate on what is actually good about it. -
Now sold. 20 year old Squier Jazz Bass in excellent condition. This is a really lovely Squier bass, Korean made in the Cort factory. The fit and finish are excellent and there is barely a mark on it. Some minor surface marks, no buckle rash and no dings. This was produced in Fenders 50th anniversary year and has the gold 50th Anniversary sticker on the back of the headstock. Really nice neck with quite a flat radius. Truss rod is fully functional. Lovely sounding bass with the usual range of jazz bass tones. Original white (w/b/w) scratchplate included. I would love to keep this but the one in/one out rule applies at the moment so she has to go Collection from Bury St Edmunds or will be happy to Courier via UPS Premium, next-day delivery, which costs about £17.

For me, it has to be a jazz.

To be fair, I've never heard of them so I cant help. A photo or two would be good though!

I have the 210 and 115 deep cabs (MAG) matched with a MAG300 Evo II amp and I am more than happy with it for my heavy rock covers band. That is a good new price for really good (but heavy) cab right there, but as Lw says, you will do better used. I bought my complete rig as mentioned for under £200!

Worth double checking the actual dimensions of your bridge pick up as well. In other jazz basses I have had the bridge pickup is a little longer than the neck pick up to cater for the wider spread of the strings towards the bridge. In my Squier jazz though the bridge pickup is the same size as the neck one meaning if I wanted to replace pick ups I would either have to do a bit of additional routing or buy two 'neck' pickups.

My band scores 1 on the current set list with 2 further that we binned quite a while back.
Love this song at the moment: Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats: https://youtu.be/-2hxU4UG3dA Edit: How do I embed a YouTube video again?! I thought you just cut & pasted the 'share' link from YouTube...
Just take the 's' out of the https and that should do it.

Bought a pedal from Cliff. Smooth transaction from start to finish and quick delivery. Fantastic. Deal with confidence.

There seems to be less 'jazz' at Cheltenham each year. I didnt go this year as there was really nothing that grabbed my attention enough to make the journey from Suffolk.

This recent thread might give you a few ideas.... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/283461-mid-price-gig-bags/page__fromsearch__1

I dont play with a pick at all at the moment. Finger style just felt more natural from the start so playing with a pick has just not happened. I feel I need to give it a real go though as playing rock covers there are a few songs on our set list which I think would benefit from that extra attack. It would be nice to be a more versatile player as well. Time to get practicing.

Going to see them in June. Cannot wait!!
I only have experience of MIK Squier guitars, not basses, but IME it depends on the factory - you can use one of the many online s/n decoders to find who made what. Early MIKs were Young-Chang builds, and were excellent quality, same as their own-brand (& now sought-after) Fenix copies. However there are some nasty Samick-era Squiers with ply bodies & dubious quality control. AFAIK this isn't the case with all Samicks but while I'd happily take a blind punt on a Young-Chang, I'd want a proper look at something from a different maker. Jon.
The bass I have bought is a 1996 model with a CN serial number. From what I can see these were made by Cort. I am really hoping this is a good thing!

Ok. I have taken a punt on a Squier jazz bass. It was actually advertised as a 50th anniversary model but my suspicion is that it is probably a normal 96 Squier jazz with the little sticker put on the back of the headstock. The more important thing would appear to be that it is made in Korea with what I have read on the internet tending to hold Korean made models in fairly high regard. Really just wanted to see what other peoples experiences of Korean Squiers are. Good or bad I am happy to hear about it. Cheers

As the title suggests, looking for experience of these. Anybody had or got one that can give me a low down on how good (or bad) they are? Cheers.

Bloody Hell. And another one gone. RIP Prince.

Warwick Rockbag, £27.99 from GAK at the mo. I have one and it seems to be really well made, well padded, has a velcro neck holdy thing, and doesnt go overboard on the pockets but still with plenty of space for cables, bits and bobs etc. http://www.gak.co.uk/en/warwick-rockbag-deluxe-line-bass-guitar-bag/7499?gclid=Cj0KEQjwrte4BRD-oYi3y5_AhZ4BEiQAzIFxn7XxjleZtkkBVQBsA-Xj7Hj2khOG7pU9_uBDqNo6igYaAkfu8P8HAQ

Got 2 sets of used D'addarios from Pete for the price of the postage. Easy transaction and really quick delivery. Top bloke.

My first bass was only about 3 years ago. It was a black Encore shortscale P type bass which I paid £5 for. I actually got it on Ebay auction for £1 but felt sorry for the woman who was selling it so gave her a fiver when I picked it up. Despite quickly moving on to other basses, some of which I have sold on, I still have the little Encore for sentimental reasons and in case any of my lads want to have a go at playing - it would be the perfect size for them right now.
