Tanglewood Rebel. The worst by a country mile.
Marvin: Early 90's cheap basses that come nowhere near the budget end basses today.
Yep.
The other is a more mellow offering of a JJ5 with Rosewood board, Haeussel single coil pickups and TI flats for a thumping smooth sound.
Sounds like my old JJ5 is working out for you. Your old Jazz suits me down to the ground! Cheers, Rick

FS: DeGier Origin Deluxe 'Puzzletop' 5, NEW PRICE
Price too high? Or just no-one interested?
If the price is still £775 (you might want to repost that so it is easier to find) then its a total steal! The problem is that there is a retro Fender-style revival at the moment so Warwicks don't seem to be as popular as they were a few years back. I've got two of each so I'm sorted whichever way the wind blows. Good luck with the sale.

XB26354 covered it really. I would also put timing and feel at the top of your list. Even a simple line can work really well if well timed. Check this Talking Heads song. A brilliant bassline that consists of little more than 2 notes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1wg1DNHbNU...feature=related P.S. Try the floating thumb technique if you haven't already.
....use a pic when i play and like to play high tempo indie music, would this be any good for this?
Well Nicky Wire from the Manics uses these so I guess that would be a yes! They do look great for the money....

The current crop of American Standard basses are the mutts nuts, so I would recommend those. Fender have really upped their game in response to all the Sadowskys and Laklands etc. The quality is very good indeed and the s/h prices are reasonable and stable.
No worries, i'm on the lighting crew for the whole run of the Hyde Park gigs - it's nice to be doing some outside gigs when it's not raining for a change. Hard rock calling is all done and dusted now, (i'm not sure i'd call Macca & Stevie "hard rock" though) and we've just set up the kings of leon. It's a hell of a show, look out for the back wall of lights if anyone's going (or actually gives two hoots about lighting too, that is!). Cheers,
I saw those! Nice work! And a great gig from old Stevland, of course.

Agreed. Plus, although the guitars themselves look great, the FGN logo looks very, very cheap. Poorly designed comic fonts should not be used on high end gear.
Considering the MIM Standards are cheaper than that and a US Std. not much more (in the UK), they're going to have a hard time pushing them at that price, no matter how good they are.
Interesting how they have decided to put the factory name out there as a brand. For some reason the traditional bass shapes are hidden away. Here's a link to their Jazz 5. Looks very nice! http://www.fgnguitars.com/jjb5r.html

You'd regret de-fretting the Rick without a doubt. Plus, as Beedster rightly says, the Rick in that vid has had some major pickup mods. Without those you'd still likely not get the tone you were after, and then you'd regret the switch even more. I'd get s/h US Fender Jazz for around £500 and have the Gallery slap a chunk of ebony on the neck. Reselling that would be a breeze.

It's very possible that your bass is in this small pic of the band! http://underthegunreview.net/wordpress/wp-...e_a-300x297.jpg
Would you consider another Sandberg JJ5 but with the smaller 34" scale? I miss this bass but dont have funds so would have to be a trade.
Tempting, but I think I'd prefer the feel of a Fender. My Fender P5 is just hugely comfortable to play. Thanks for posting, though. Cheers-

Sandberg California JJ5 available for trade. Info can be found in the following link. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=sandberg It's a lovely sounding bass but the 35 inch neck doesn't work well for me. I am looking to trade for a recent US Standard Fender Jazz V or perhaps a nice RI UA Jazz 4 string (lightweight ones if poss). Collection/meetup in and around London as this comes with a Sandberg softcase only. This bass has recently been changing hands for £700 so I'd guess that's pretty accurate secondhand price guide. I am looking for a trade only at the moment, I have added the price as a guide to the s/h market value of these basses. Thanks for looking! *** TRADE PENDING ***

Howard made a scratch plate replacement for my Sandberg JJ and got it spot on! Cheers!

You could buy a Warmoth walnut body and pimp that rather than buying an entire bass. It'll be better quality than the Agathis. Like this:- http://www.fyrewyrm.com/bass.html

Warwick completely moving production to Korea?
rjb replied to sockdeluxe_mikey's topic in Bass Guitars
As far as I know only production of the Corvette Std had been moved there. If it was true it would be a strange move - they could perhaps decrease their overheads by scaling back production of the hi-end German stuff, but it seems senseless to bow completely out of the hi-end market. However, if they do stop German production then my Thumb basses will jump in value in the years to come! -
I'd recommend a Sandberg California, having just picked one up myself. Cracking basses. A second-hand one will leave you with lots of change from 1k.

Looking at the screw holes I think they are different from Jazzes. I have emailed Sandberg. Thanks for the Sims info.
