1. Hi Hidde and welkom aan boord, I'm sure you will stay longer than anticipated !!! My older brother lives in Utrecht and works for Rabobank, although most of his time is spent in the piano practice rooms at the University. I am hoping to visit soon to see the Railway Museum. ....Paul
 2.
I want either a better 6 string or a 7 next what does that make me
Greedy
 3. If the chrome is still intact pay a visit to Halfords or a local car spares/accessory shop and get a tube of Solvol Autosol. I used to use it for car restoration. Alternatively Duraglit wadding is excellent if you can find it in a hardware shop.
 4. Very underated basses designed for durability and playing. I have owned a few now and never had one that was dissapointing, even an LX that was an ebay special at £60 did the business.
 5. Saturday bump and price reduction to £160.00 or offers
 6.
well if you do play live again at least you have the band's PA sorted!
Thats true but what I would play through....?
Best rig on Basschat, start playing live, Mrs P will have to deal with it.
You are welcome to call round and explain to Mrs P if you like ! But I would not advise it The Cabs and maybe the amp are going up for sale on the forum for a week to see if there is any interest, they are rather inexpensive....
 7. This is my cheap and cheerful 'practice' rig 2 x 18" Bass Bins 2 x 15" Full Range Cabs W-Audio 500 watt 1 unit power amp Laptop with a Line 6 GX USB interface running Pod Farm and Riff Works along with Acid etc... Certainly shifts some air Unfortunately its a bit of an overkill , and I keep thinking of playing live again but just don't have the time and Mrs Prosebass has read me the riot act (again) so it looks like I will be selling the cabs...
 8.
hi, im rich, been playing for 3 or 4 years. First had an ibanez SR series, now onto a cheerful yamaha connected to a Behringer Ultrabass BX600. I'm looking to upgrade my bass, but this is a bit tricky considering the range of music i like to play! everything from jazz to ska to post-industrial
Welcome to basschat....where do you hail from ?
Welcome! You know you want a Fender Precision...!
Don't swear at the lad he's only just joined.....
 9.
Thought that was directed at me too!
10.
Leave that to the 22 stone bisexual biker.
don't get me involved in this !!!!
 11.
Not if he's blogging he isn't?
fair point Chris....missed that bit. As a fellow (he said in inverted commas) 'luthier' I find it ridiculous that he hasn't honored this work. Maybe a tactic that could be used is for someone to contact him using a quote for a build as a cover and then bringing up this sorry story with him.....just a thought.
 12.
IMHO... 11 months and no apology, no reasons, no contact...yes, you have been ripped off and by a guy that doesn't deserve to be in business. If he can find time to update his blog then he can put a couple of hours aside to answer his emails. If he is too ill then he should get someone to deal with it for him. Being a small business man is no excuse for being rude and treating customers so badly. Dealing with customers is a part of most businesses and arguably the biggest part. If he can't handle that then it is time to shut up shop and refund everybody.
+1 on paul h's comments. With small businesses customer service is paramount especially in this line of business. 11 months is ridiculous and there is only one excuse you could use to justify it ! and lets hope he isn't
Not a gig but when practicing at home in my teens I used to sit on my bed with the headstock of my bass against a big wooden headboard that I used as a sound-board. Sounded pretty good but was rather uncomfortable.

The same effect can be had as the headboard one by playing sitting down with the strap attached to the bass and going over the top of your left ear

I used to do this as well but against my wardrobe - probably the biggest rig I've used in terms of height !
I hope Alex is noting all this for future Cab designs.....

He just wants to see your dick. I wish someone had told me earlier. I feel such a fool.
Was he a 'basschatter' ?
 16.
I reckon this guy must be an estate agent. What do you think? Cort Fretless
Its all quite understandable when you realise he is an 'upright' player. Probably a 'jazzist'
 17.
He gets quite a nice sound out of that ironing board.......

Why doesnt he just get a guitar? To many strings for me.
18.
sorry to be bumping a dead thread , when you say meths , is there any particular type of meths? Sorry for the dumb question I just remember seeing about cleaning strings with meths and then seeing on the back of a bottle of meths warinings to avoid contact with skin etc and countless other warnings
I use lots of meths , thinning down french polish and oils, cleaning fingerboards and as a lubricant for sanding. Its wonderful property is that it completely evaporates off and does not soak into wood so you get no grain raising when preparing wood. It will dry out your hands out but I would only worry if you are using it on a daily basis. Use a good moisturiser after use. On a safety note be very careful not to use it anywhere near a naked flame or whilst smoking. The thing with meths (ask any hiker with a meths stove) is that it burns with an invisible flame so you don't know when it, or you, or in the hikers case the tent are alight. Always use outside if possible. Boiling strings in water (not meths ) is ok as a short term fix but water gets in the windings and unless you dry them fully in the oven (120 for an hour should it) you will not drive all the water out and it will corode the central core and hence the snapping a few people have encountered. In my younger years I boiled strings , dried them in the oven and then soaked them in WD40 and hung them up for a few days for the excess WD40 to run out. Seemed to work a treat but then strings were a similar price 25 years ago to what they are now so in real terms probably 3 - 4 times more expensive.

 20.
I still prefer the original version of "The Awakening" by The Reddings...bit surprised that Claypool didn't come up with something composed by himself instead of this cover. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QFv4nq9n9w
Well ! you learn something new every day, Les Claypool does covers ....thanks for that.
 21.
Does anyone know of a reasonably priced B&B nearby that has the facility to lock my little van full of goodies away?
+1 on that , what night are you stopping over Monz , I'll prop the bar up with you. Maybe someone has room for 2 larger than average beer swilling, smoking Northerners...?
 22.
Having said 'ta ta' to my sum total of cabinets, I decided to have a bit of a mooch around the wonderful world of backline. Now in my thought processes I still keep coming back to the same idea. I'm using my line 6 / outboard to produce the sounds of pretty much any amp/cab combination I want, which is great for flexibility - so when it comes to backline, all I really need is a glorified quality PA / studio monitor behind me.
I played through a JBL EON 15 powered cab recently with my computer hooked up to it using just Guitar Rig 3 LE and was rather impressed to say the least. They are bi-amped and only weigh 48lbs Info... You can pick up single units on ebay for under £200.00 . They are on my "to buy" list.
 23.
Well I have a bass - think I fail on just about every thing else!
+1 on that ! Just for Men may help.....
