6.
Do you know what the bodywood is? Pluck
I'm not sure, it is made from 4 pieces so I would say its probably basswood. You can lightly see the grain through the finish. All I can re-iterate is that it sounds very Fenderish and most people unless they are a basschat Fender Anorak would think it was a Fender.
 7. 8.
Ebay is for c**ts. I'd never buy or sell anything on that f***ing thing.
Ebay is ace just admit it...... Maybe you had a bad experience there when a young child ?
 9. I think the shop should be named and shamed.....anyone with any experience of good retail knows you never alienate a good customer. And this was not an inexpensive bass. Method I have always employed is staying at the counter and telling everyone who comes in the story, usually works but then I am a grumpy old belligerent sod Keep us all informed with the outcome Andy
 10. Hi Craig and welcome to basschat, good to see you've picked the bass up again. I see you are from the "wrong" side of the Pennines but I'll not hold that against you !......
 11.
He wants the precious. Always he is looking for it. And the precious is wanting to go back to him... But we mustn't let him have it.
It won't last.......may I tempt you......[topic="32967"]with my [s]precious[/s] precision ?....[/topic]
 12.
Nitromorse can cause problems once you're down to bare wood it soaks in a lot deeper than you'd think and may cause discolouration. Whether this is a result of chemical reaction to other stuff in the wood or just the deep cleaning power of the N I don't know. I've used it to take off thinly applied shellac but not so far to remove nitrocellulose paints - its in this area I think problems lie. I'm still on a learning curve. This has been incredibly useful so far, hope it helps ttfn Ian
+1 on that. Its also not wise to get the bare wood wet which you would have to do to wash the Nitromors off. Depending on the wood, water can damage the fibers. I would use a dry method to be on the safe side. If its the Early Precision you are doing I would use a belt sander on the flat bits carefully using 240 grade and stopping immediately when you hit bare wood anywhere and then by hand with a block sander. I use a Dremmel very carefully to get the awkward bits down a bit and then again by hand.

 14.
You are starting to give me serious GAS. And I will be getting a set of pick ups off you as soon as I stop procrastinating! Paul.
happy to oblige....
 15.
Have you checked the finger board for consistant level and radius no there is a coating?
The board was flat and consistant to start with and 10 thin coats of the coating flatted back is probably between 0.5 mm and 1 mm. I use a big sanding block and I am very careful when hand finishing. It has been checked with a straight-edge and all seems fine. Proof will be in the playing and any irregularities will be obviously be sorted out although I see no reason for there to be any.
 16.
Just go here so here I am ...drunk...
Welcome to basschat from all who browse here... 17.
I notice that you're looking for 1983 experts, but I doubt if more than 15 or so have responded to this thread. Think you're going to struggle with the other 1968 ...
and another groan....
Groan! Paul - I can't think of too many copies that have come in a blonde finish like that. I think Tokia have done them, but it might help to narrow things down a bit.
I looked at Tokai's but I think they had the inserts in the neck at the truss rod access, and this hasn't. The nearest I can find shape wise regarding the headstock is an Alba !!! But this one is much thicker and chunkier...
 18. After seeing photos of the bass that eventually went to deaver
 19.
I just hate to be the guy that kills the dream!!! You see stuff like this over and over on these bass forums, some kid comes on thinking he's got the deal of the century, only to have his bubble burst when he finds out that Fender never made a Stratocaster bass in 1962, or that James Jamerson's bass said "Funk Brothers", not "You Funked Me Over", or that the 1945 Jazz Bass prototype he just bought might possibly be a fraud!!! I like to help guys out with my knowledge (limited as it is), but I hate killing someone's excitement about an instrument.
You've got me thinking now ! could that be a 1950 Precision prototype under the sawdust in my shed ?????? Don't worry I was under no illusion that it was an 83 Precision , but the neck threw me a little. Thanks for your help on the matter. I have a set of Geddy Lee tuners I will fit on it / a Fender string tree and a Badass maybe, and then it will be up for sale.
 20.
I don't know if this will help, and I didn't want to say it above for fear of offending (I got the idea you thought this may've actually been a Fender), but my initial impression of the neck was that it might be an SX neck. Something about the headstock shape and the colouration reminds me of their goods.
I did get that "oh my god what have I stumbled across" feeling when I opened the case, but a quick look at tuners, pups and scratch-plate certainly made me think that it was a replica but I was not sure if the neck may have started as a Fender item. I am sure it is not an SX as the quality is better and the headstock shape is different (SX is pointy on the right side and not rounded) but thanks for the suggestion. I will probably improve the bass a little (wiring, shielding and maybe the bridge) then it will be up for sale. And don't worry about "offending" tell it as it is, the truth will always out, as the saying goes.....
