1. Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm not wanting to name and shame at all! RE: Not noticing unitl fairly recently. What can I say - I didn't look closely at the fret board! I couldnt get rid of the buzz and I wondered if it was jsut a bad isntrument rather than being a problme with the frets (I can set up a guitar properly). But could not get rid of the buzz despite adjusting the aciton and truss rod. It is not my main bass and only gets played on occasion. I was putting another bass to get sorted few weeks ago, so I thought I'd drop this one in too. Dood - bass was not bought from the original maker. I just thought it would be nice to get a re-fret and general sorting out (pots had gone etc) from the original makers. With a new one on order, I was planning to sell this one on - but I want it to be sorted for doing that. Its a classic bass, and hopefully when its sorted be around for a while. I think I'll just, politely, send them an email explaining the situation.
2. I bought it second hand and when I got it I realised it needed a re-fret. It was pretty much un-usable. I thought I'd be doing the bass right by taking it back to the workshop where it was made.
3. Good communication and fast delivery of pickups exactly as described.
4. *****PRICE DROP****** now 1200 Plays great, sounds great! Few blemishes and knocks here and there from being played, but nothing serious. The scratchplate is not the original, doesn't match up with the screw-holes. . Based in Dundee. Send me a message with your email and I'll send you more pics. I'd trade for a headless status of some variety.
5. If anyone wants to hear Tonerider pickups in action: https://www.youtube....eature=youtu.be (Big Country, Look Away) https://www.youtube....h?v=wWTOFS4AYMI (Hot Water - no a great take but kept because my Dog came in and it amused me ) Total cost for this bass (BadAss bridge, Hipshot tuners, Tonerider pickups) - 420 quid and its easily competing with and american standard at a 1/4 of the price. The toneriders are pretty good I think. Not amazing but they sound pretty good
6. What are the pickups like on the affinity? I was surprised to find that the pickups in a recent Squire VM Precision V seemed to be alnico magnets as they did not have the usual fridge magnet stuck to the bottom like other cheap p-bass pickups. Sounded pretty good too!
7. Anyone know where I can get one? There are "mirror" scratch plates available, basically plastic/acrylic with a mirror finish, but I'm after a real metal/polished chrome one. Cant seem to find anywhere that sells them!
8.
Yes new pot required, but in better news that one isn't attached to the preamp pcb so it's a relatively easy fix! Brightside!
Argh - It looks like it IS attached the preamp pcb. This could be an expensive fix!
9. Bit of disaster - I somehow managed to pull the volume knob of the stacked control on my Sire. The knob and the spindle have come out and I cant get it to catch inside - its just spinning in the tone pot. I cant figure out how to get it to re-attach. I dont know if I've broken it or just have figurted out how to reassemble it!
10. Brand new, gigged about 4 times EBS Reidmar - sounds great, light and LOUD! (like, really loud!). I just prefer my Eden WT800 and have decided I dont mind lugging it about. Boxed. I'll get some pics up soon. £490 delivered. I'm based in Central Scotland.
11. Thanks guys - first time I've done this sort of thing! Lake Placid Blue does look kinda right. Just need to figure out how to get clear paint and blue metal flake on!
12. I thinking of making a Steve Harris replica out of a cheap P-Bass. Anyone have any idea of what paint to use to achieve the blue sparkle finish. Is there a spray paint that would do the job? Cheers!
13. Good communications and prompt payment! Pleasure doing business with!
14. A fairly off the cuff rendition of this tune - never played it before, and went through it about 4 or 5 times and then decided to record it. Gear info: Fender Precision (Japanese 62 re-issue) - badass II bridge, seymour duncan Quarter Pound pick up. Strings: Elixir 45-105. My first proper bass. Bought it 21 years ago for £399 and its just getting better with age. The neck is quite slim for a precision. Behringer pre amp - cheap and nasty, its the Tech 21 clone that costs about 20 quid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXkT09Yu7MI
15. I'm thinking of getting a pair of these for use as PA. However,QSC K12 are significantly cheaper and have an excellent reputation it would seem. I can't find any reviews of the FR800.
