1. If you can pick up and old Ibanez Musician you would be getting something made by hand with a fabulous range of tones. I had one for a long time. It cost me £500 it. When I wanted to go upmarket I had to spend another 4 grand to better it. Fantastic gorgeous basses.
2. I'm curious if anyone agrees with YG that raising the action improves the tone. Has anyone found this? My experience is that it seems to have some effect with old J basses but not P's - seems to tighten p the bridge puck-up tone, What do you think,?
3. The deed is done. This is my funeral bass. I call it that because if my wife finds out what it cost she would kill me. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:244191]
4. I use Allen & Heath QU series. Works really well but beware.... most of these that use an external hard drive for recording are fussy as hell and won't work with anything above 1gb. Try and even find a 1Gb external powered drive these days........ bits of the technology are way behind the times.
5. I use a Focusrite Scarlet unit into my mac. Its perfect.
6. I've kept my SMX 15" combo from new. Still love it with its matching 15" extension. I played some big old places + outdoors and never - ever ran out of headroom. Lots of cone moving lots of air, big toroidal transformers and big power caps - no transient issues there. Its heavy and I don't gig it now but it never let me down once in the years I have had it. Good enough for Bernard Edwards - good enough for me.
7. Slap is about tone. If your tone is good and you can groove tightly its very nice. The odd bit of exhibitionism is also ok but machinegun bollocks - not even musical.Good pick work an be every bit funky. Its a tool which, if used well and in the right place, gives some great accent in a broader palate. For me its in - I don't care what other people's hang-ups are.
8. O so I lied about the Warwick, :-) it weighs just under a metric tonne but that wasn't the point.
9. I have an early NT Thumb Sixer and it weighs in at 11 1/2 lbs. When people see it hey say, oohh heavy - I couldn't cope with that. If I take out my Fodera which weighs not much more that a pound less - they say oohh Fodera want my kidney? I say its heavy they usually say that they wouldn't care. (perhaps more graphic expletives). My point is that unless you have a bad back, are very modest in stature or build or happen to be 83 then whole weight thing is utter nonsense. Ooh I'm a healthy man in my mid 40's oooh 12 pounds!, couldn't possibly carry that across my manly shoulders on a comfortable strap for a whole hour! Skinny little girls carry 18lb toddlers around all day on one arm. Jeez.....man up guys............
10. Have a bump on me........Cannot believe that this hasn't been snapped up yet. One of the best makers of passive basses in the world right now.
11. Is this still available pls?
12. Oohhhhh.......... I think that says it all.
13. Dear All, this is my Band cover of Commodore's Brick House recorded on my 62 Jazz Bass. https://soundcloud.com/user-76590606/brick-house
14. Don't be put off. The label 'pro' just means they don't have a proper job like all the other bass players in the world. There are dicks in every sphere of life. If on the other hand you/other members couldn't keep up then its a lesson to go away and practice. All positive.
15. If people are paying you to play its only respectful to make sure that you have an immediately interchangeable instrument. That's it. Have two the same, or in terms of your playing style and comfort, the same; very few people will notice sonic difference unless really out of the ball park.
16. If you know Marty Prior he runs with one as his main squeeze. I have on eon order but won't arrive before November.
17. Just Bought a Steinberger Synapse from Keith. Arrived quickly, well packed and exactly as promised. Deal with confidence.
18. Well check out the aer amp three 2x8 and a bass beast in a small sealed box
19. Christian McBride trio car wash.......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwGj1tCSBpU
20. Stick with it. The important thing is that you started with a proper instrument which means it won't get in the way of your learning. Get it set up properly and play it for a year. If you change you mind then fair do's.
21. No pictures.............. no interest........
22. Banjo.............bloody reverse rolls.....
