  1. If you enjoy ever harder challenges and you never want to stop learning then you are gonna end up in Jazz like it or not - unless you die first or course. Its where the really hard sh*t is. Its a electric bass player's classical music. Even you do it just to improve playing the stuff you like. If you can play Chic Corea's 'Spain' those Duck Dunn lines will come out better. On the other hand a tip to Gwizdala-lala land playing classical guitar through loopers on a bass. Not for me. Can I just say he is an astonishing musician - its just not my taste. The lala land refers to his fekn awful singing voice only. John Pattitucci I can do. I am on that inevitable slope - inevitable for me anyway.
  2. I had dealings with a Miss Charlotte Hole who worked for a company called Munters......... I also have a a guy working for me called Krishan Mistry or Krish-mistry...gwan say it. Finally a friend of mine used to be in the forces and reported to a Captain Pine-Coffin. WTF
  3. I started this thread because there are just things you know are out there but never come up. You get Pre CBS, Dove Cages, AJ Foderas but try find a 1979 Ibanez Roadster ............nah........... ( I know a bit specific.) but its those things 'in the middle' that just seem to get lost. 70's and early 80's gear all seems missing. Was it al really that crap ?
  4. Use a Mackie Thump 15

  7. Big Yin. I too have dealt with Depression for most of my life. Some of the most creative and great minded people you will ever meet have that shadow on their lives. Don't knock yourself. What you need to get good at something is time and if you take your time you will succeed. Time and persistence are the two tools that average musicians can apply to become good. Set your self a goal of six songs in six months. Make them songs you like and that are realistic. Start with one and play it every day. Sing the bass notes as you swing your mop. :-) Put the song on repeat in your Walkman in the car. Listen the hell out of it. Play the hell out of it. If you can do that will be a real goal. Music is my one total escape. Keeps me sane sometimes - don't give up. As you slowly get better you will be proud and won't be nervous to play with others. Everyone screws up, they secret is to get up afterwards. That is the only difference, the only thing that will get you where you want to be. As for night work - not good for depression. I know its better paid but its isolating and messes with your body chemistry - and your gigging. Stay with it give yourself time and keep playing. Good luck.
  8. Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax- Tattooist won't get it wrong.
  9. Ok, I'm going to deviate off too. My wife got me to tag along to see these guys several years ago in London before they got bigger. I hate that bloody Jared Leto! Good looking, film actor, impressive singer/performer live and just to put pepper on it was dating Cameron Diaz round the time she fitted into that red dress in The Mask....... boom! When I saw them bass player Tomo was on a P - bit of G&L product placement methinks.

  14. Life is short, make it sweet. Have a great one guys!
  15. Jerry ain't for me. He is a great player but 'Nard was subtle and sweet an Jerry isn't. Having said that, maybe its just me getting old. Love the fact that they are still doing it.
  16. Just a bit of feedback. I had a play on one of the Japanese made Walnut Fender Jazz basses. Very, very impressive. Warm, thick, barks like Jaco's dog on the back pick up. Any one tried one of these - It really took me by surprise - gorgeous sound and very playable if a little heavy.

  18. Double checked the website.........www.schickguitars.com........long dead. They made basses called Tiger, Zebra and Rhino.
  19. try this........I did a Czech language search for you...They certainly did exist, based in Northern Moravia in Czech Republic producing in the early 2000's. They didn't get much out of Czech Republic and were a small boutique maker following the Tobias genre. They had good reviews but don;t seem to be around now. Moravia has a long history of producing fine luthiery and still does. The Furch Brand makes one of the finest acoustic bass guitars I have played. http://www.muzikus.cz/pro-muzikanty-testy/Schick-Rhino-5-Fretless-Bass-Baskytara~04~duben~2002/ and on a Czech music forum http://hudebniforum.cz/baskytary/schick-rhino-5-fretless-t23425.html?sid=6c829db7ea3e043de0e665f7b4c62827
